I liked how Frazzy first puts souls in what seems like heaven, then slowly strips it away over the course of years before revealing that they're actually in the Abyss. That's a mind game right there.
The closed caption text on this are truly a fine demonstration of Chaotic neutral service. Frazer blew, fray surplu fraz urploo. Frayed zoo blues. Fantastic
Amazing lore, equally amazing amount of research you do on your content. This was one of my all-time favorite episodes to date, but they are all fantabulous. Thank you for all your time and effort that goes into producing these videos.
Hehe, sounds like a plan. Maybe while I'm doing that you can read that document I gave you and let me know what you thought of it XP (Hope I'm not being too spammy about that)
Oh alright, sorry. I had seen that you had mentioned that you gave it a glance but needed to look more in-depth to it, I was sort of waiting to see what you thought of it. Anyway that's awesome that you read it, thanks for giving it a gander.
"I'm willing to assist you, whoever I do so as a representative of my employer Jimmy Two-Toes. This contract details the terms of service, and you need only to make your mark here. We thank you. The deal is sealed" There's some potential here.
Coax plant a ritual spell anyone can learn uses hit die to give focused plant two weeks of growth per HP. Control water and light cantrips allow your friends to use the help action and add their own hit die.The plant will continue to grow even in a hostile environment until the caster and all helper's die.
Thank you for this video. The first edition books used sans-serif fonts, making an upper-case "i" and a lower-case "L" indistinguishable. I never knew how Fraz-Urb'luu was supposed to be pronounced; is that "Lou" or "You" at the end?
I had always believed Dispater was one of the original Lords of the Nine. And Fraz-Urb'luu's diabolic origins could explain why he's not considered a contender for Prince of Demons such as Orcus or Graz'zt as he's not originally from there. (Neither is Graz'zt, who seems to have more origin myths than any other figure.)
just c curious where did you get the info about what was going on in gary gygax's campaign with ernie and mark getting a pair of vorpal blades that were ruining the campaign which resulted in gary creating Fraz. This is the kind of stuff I'd rally like to know more about, stories about.
Would be cool if he was somehow the Ultimate baddy from Hellgate keep. Since it was run by a greater ancient doppelganger correct? Multiple layers of deception. Maybe a base to search for his staff?
Energy Bow (+2 Composite Longbow that accommodates any strength, force arrows deal 2d6 and ignore miss chance for incorporeal, shed light as a torch, can make power shots with Hank taking a negative to attack and adding that number to damage)
I know this is probably a shot in the dark, but is there a way to get a list sources you've used for Fraz'urb'luu? I'm running Out of the Abyss, and I'm planning on using Fraz for a plot twist for one of my PCs. Would be nice to do a little more digging than has been provided about him online. Thanks either way!
I'm trying to look up about the creation of the Iron Tower, what source did you find stating that Fraz-Urb'Luu was responsible for building it? Searching trough Grayhawk and Forgotten Realms content i wasn't able to find it.
@@AJPickett Quite the elaborate lore though... Nowhere i look i can find lore about him before being in the Abyss... Was that in a campaign you played or DM'd at? EDIT: I just found the Dragon Magazine edition about Fraz-Urb'luu. It is Dragon Magazine 333. It says nothing about Devils, Dis or the Iron Tower. I'm still curious about the source of that lore, i want to add something like it in a table of mine. If there's no source for it, it would be quite funny that untraceable information about the "Prince of Deception" is being spread though XD
@@randallbaumgardt3424 You make a valid point. Though considering his modus operandi, I have to wonder what sort of Angel he was. Perhaps an Angel that served a god of storytelling? Furthermore, I am curious as to the effects abyssal energy would have on a fallen Angel. Certainly food for thought.
Tanar'ri is another name for demon that was created, if memory serves me, back in 2nd edition when TSR was attempting to move away from using words like "Devil", or "Demon". I don't play anymore so I hope they did away with the name in 5e and reverted back to the use of "demon".
If you've been technobabbled, I'll help out. The Obyrith are a race that came from the previous universe. They corrupted this universe, which did a whole other thing BUT ANYWAY they were powerful but not numerous. They created the Tanari as more of them. All you really need to know is there demons.
Pronouncing fantasy names is not one of your strengths is it? All you have to remember is to pronounce it phonetically and if in doubt between 2 pronunciations, pick the one that sounds cooler. Its not that hard, really.
I can just imagine a cult of Fraz-Urb'Luu across the street from a cult of Vecna having a secret feud while outwardly pretending to be friendly so they don't blow their cover.
@@TraciPeteyforlife The really hardcore ones from both faiths engage in marriage and normal life all the while trying to ruin the life of the other through accidents. First one with grandkids and a hefty manor wins.
I just discovered you about two weeks ago and you completely consumed my RU-vid history now, and most importantly you inspired me to start up d&d again, your videos are tangible.. outstanding job man!!
@@AJPickett add me to the list of returned backsliders. ive been loving your offerings immensely over the last year- 3-4 episodes a dayas i convalesce at home.THANK YOU, Sir!
Fraz-Urb'Luu and his realm designer must of had a great conversation while creating his surroundings. "Yeah, this forest is great and all but you know what it needs? Trees that vomit mucus." I know you're evil, but why!?
Your question about Dis was exactly what I thought. I paused what I was doing, stopped the video for a second to consider it. The second I resumed it, you made the same comment
You sure know how to spoil a girl, don't you AJ? Whoever she is, she's certainly lucky. I, meanwhile, am absolutely fucking *SALIVATING* at this delicious morsel you've placed in front of me; I feel like a rabid hound about to tear into a pile of freshly grilled sirloin!
AJ. Wanna really thank you for introducing me to the explained lore on Fraz'Urb'Luu, before watching this Orcus was my favorite Demon Lord, though upon hearing of the deeds this dude has done, made me rethink that stance. He's currently slated as my BBEG in my already year long Homebrew I've been running. Though I was curious upon researching his 9 Hell Origins, I really couldn't find anything of the sort on it, I find it very interesting how he went from being an Archdevil to a Demon Lord and possibly a celestial at one point isn't so farfetched considering Asmodeus' origins. Would it be possible if you could point me in the direction of the source it claims that? I don't doubt your research or anything, just wanna research it for myself. :)
Dragon #333, Demonomicon of Iggwilv, Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss, Monster Manual II 1st edition, Book of Vile Darkness, mainly the dragon magazine article is the most complete source of lore.
After half a decade, I got to role play Fraz Urbluu. My player's reaction (used a 1st edirion supplement artistic rendition, so they have no idea who it is out of character. mission accomplished) to meeting this lord's projected image: "He really is a pitiful, awful bastard taking his anger out just because. Like, a wretched waste." yes. good. that is the intended reaction to such a monster. Player described the demonic form as the "overcompensating sportscar" for immortal creatures. That was funny.
His 5th edition stats are in the "Out of the Abyss" adventure module, along with several others (unfortunately Llolth's are not) including Demogorgon Orcus, and several others
I'm curious what would happen if he were to be killed? As a devil he should reform in the Hells but if he is truly now a demon would the Abyss reform him?
I think he would reform in the nine hells He is a devil at heart even if it’s buried deep down and thus would reform in Baator However I think the abyss would be cooler A devil that tricked the abyss into giving him power
I know I'm a year late but.... I believe his rage is based in fear. He was sealed by Asmodeus to NEVER RETURN to the 9 Hells. If he dies, he dies. His soul may be strong enough to reform somewhere else (possibly hades or gehenna) but he is a devil blocked from his home plane.
Does anyone know where I can find more information on the hollow rajah, the cult of chaotic evil rakshasas that follows Fraz-Urb'luu? I can't seem to find anything about them other than a brief reference on any wiki pages.
Yeah even Fraz-Urb'Luu isn't stupid enough to tell Tiamat what to do. Tiamat: "What's that fool up too? Oh this is going to get fun!" Grabs popcorn/large leg of meat. Starts eating while watching the fight. Occasionally hits minions without thinking and sometimes thinking about it.
I know his combat stats suck compared to other demon lords. However him being a great manipulator, just makes him fun to write a campaign for with him as the BBEG who just acts as a puppet master behind the scenes. Only to show up when he thinks he jas the upper hand against the players
Outstanding information sourcing! Thank you!... solved some things for me ... will give my players some definite... ah, spice... in the modified Out of the Abyss I'm running )))
45:41 1; i love the amount of hype (im this whole section really) 2; hearing “OH IVE SEEN THIS!” when talking about a fictional relm took me very off guard and was amazing 😂😂
So, apparently my Muse likes to have some type of metaphysical intercourse with Aj's discourse and the result is that I am able to create demons, monsters, gods, whole entire races and vast universes. If you would like to read what your discourse and my muse inspired me to create this night on my side of the world send me a direct message. 3;-D MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
"peace is a lie..." lol! so i'm guessing anger & rage is a devils best friend, cool portfolio. the life and times of Franz-urb'luu. 😎🛳🍸 "... the rage shall free me."
Tsojcanth is a pain in the arse to pronounce. The j is a y sound, like in Latin. The t is like in the Chinese name Tso. That makes it Soycanth. I’ve even heard it pronounced Soyacanth, adding a vowel sound after the j, like Hebrew.
2/3rd through. I actually dug up these very articles, but not with your tact in discretionary reading of 3.5e content. I cannot wait for my new party to get to Mantol Derith...
I tried to push them towards MD but the pc didnt share a language with Srin'pitch Mizzrym, a trader from Mantol Derith caught up in the Dwarven Berserkers rampage when they finally reached the Forge Layer and sacked the Drow City- the Drow Merchant crawled around for like 10 months or more in the unreclaimed outskirts of upper city residential districts of GGrym- hounded by ghosts and soon going insane and being haunted by a Demon Lord. I had the party separated on two wood and rope bridges and the drow babbled undercommon to the ONE pc who didn't have it as a language lmao I can always have Bruenor send them there for the Ring..
HH is very interesting place, whoever came up with it is pretty creative. Although it would be nice if they had one area with ice cream, dancing elves and singing trees.
Hey Folks, long time DnD fan, recent watcher of Netflix's The Good Place. Anyone else with similar influences notice the glaring similarities? Like even beyond your normal run of the mill plight of the post mortem ne'er do well
Theory on what was done to Fraz when he destroyed the ichor lance. The mage knew about Fraz's history and must have decided to gamble on making the conflicting powers neutralize each other and thus leaving Fraz unable to defend himself from being enslaved.
Lost caverns of tsogcanth was my favorite dungeon module when i was a kid when it came out, we used to use it as bridge between the C1-4 dungeons and the tomb of horrors and Q1 demonweb pits module. Tsogcanth is such a solid module for the mid levels
You should see what Asmoudeus does to OTHERS who fall out of favor. Geryon is... Probably dead, Moloch got turned into an imp, the Hag Queen is not only dead, but her corpse is being used to grow... Something, Tiamat may or may not be trapped in a small corner of Hell (The best fate here,) and the last one here who's name I don't remember was trapped underground, assumably in horrible pain. He got out recently. But yeah. Ub'luu got out easy.
the queen of chaos is powerful strong looking teehee and question so pail knights go to for is a sheet with her in it and does the mind altering effects do the same thing to demons as thay di to mots others
So, a tiefling decended from Fraz-urb'luu would get +2 Cha, + 1 Wis, and advantage to Insight or Perception checks as well as to locate hidden creatures or illusions?
