1.) A lot of underdark creatures don't, however it is more common in the UPPER underdark, which has far less flora, less glowing fungus, so, in most places the upper underdark is actually much darker than it is lower down. 2.) Those two particular tribes who follow those animal totems are no longer around, other Uthgardt tribes are doing well. 3.) There are quite a lot, sometimes a specific area will be rich in them, depends on the geology. 4.) Hard to say, the relationship with the energy is not critical, and portals of sufficient size to allow a purple worm through are vanishingly rare in Sigil. 5.) Yes. Best sources are Drizzt's Guide to the Underdark, The Underdark, and the Faerun wikipedia pages. 6.) Most are geological, caused by normal erosion, volcanism and such, only a few are made deliberately, Purple worm tunnels don't remain passable very long. 7.) Yes, exactly that. 8.) Pech stay away from other people's territory and property, they are neutral good people who lead quiet lives in the deep tunnels. They use gems and precious metals much like any other race does. 9.) Aside from Fingerhome, they are nomadic people who are always on the move. 10.) Well, it's not uncommon, but for the most part, the Upper Underdark is dark, cold and either very wet or very dry, the middle underdark is lush, tropically warm and dimly lit in many places, the lower underdark is Murky, tropically hot, has vast lakes and oceans, may have lava falls and lava lakes, and is very, very dangerous.

They have radically different teeth, their bone and muscle structure is altered and they no longer require sunlight to survive, also, they can live on an entirely carnivorous diet, so, yeah, a lot of changes and definitely something supernatural has been the cause.

Michael Kelligan Thunder Wave is a killer against them....just beware of what else might here you in the deep. Thunderous Step is a good one to get away from a group of these beasties.

I went down to the bottom once. It is full of twitch streamers. (The lowest places in the Underdark are volcanically hot, so life clusters around deep oceans and lakes, where the aboleth sovereignty rules. Also, deep vaults house terrors from the ancient past and the Illithids lurk in secretive compounds. In between, there are aberrations, such as Beholders, and lots of infernal and elemental creatures.)

Yeah it is a bit unusual, and really ramps up the danger when facing groups of Grimlock, which would be the vast majority of the time.

Humans don't bang bugbears, goblinoids seem to not be anywhere near as compatible as Orcs when it comes to crossbreeds, so, if there is any banging going on, it is a Bugbear greatclub connecting with a human skull.

@@vinx.9099 correct, "devolve" is a term for the decentralisation of political power from a centre or capital to regional authorities. Nothing to do with biology (or even creationism).

@@Fgway evolution doesn't mean becoming better adapted. A species of blind fish might be blind just because an ancestor had a genetic mutation that made it so. It doesn't have to save calories or provide any advantages.
