Original D&D being a sci-fantasy makes a lot of sense, I've noticed a lot of authors at the time wrote SciFi and fantasy almost interchangeably: a prime example being "Dark Dark were the tunnels" by George R Martin, which reads like fantasy at first until you piece together the clues and figure out it's the ruins of a futuristic society.

I could see the Servants being used as an army for some spacefaring race that’s invading a Campaign Setting. Make a scaled down version for the “foot soldier” types, a few unique variants for “specialist” positions, the regular as “commanders”, and a really, really tough one for the BBEG to have as his personal guard. Because the Servants are so tough, make the invader race something really squishy, like 10 hp squishy, but with high damage energy weapons, so once you fight through their Servant defenses it’s kinda just a matter of hitting them before they hit you.

Those two artefacts are basicaly the Tardis (Dr Who) powered by a deck of manny things and a wild magic sourcerer, and a dark templar (40K). I like both of those inspirations. *Diabolic smile*

The Mighty Servant is awesome as hell. I love the fact that its extemely loud when used. (50 decibels)...my nephews dwarven L. Good characters currently have possession of it! Really scares the hell out of humanoids when they hear it coming! Thanks AJ!

I found a glitch long ago in Baldur's Gate 2 Throne of ball where you could use the machine of Lum the mad to get all of your stats to 25. It required a bit of finessing and I know it was cheating but I did it anyway. God that was a good game in so many ways. Looking forward to Baldur's Gate 3.

This seems cool. I wonder if Artificers could learn about these artifacts. Yet the Sword of Tharzidun... I wonder if it shifted to another plane. I'm still finishing up campaign 1, of Critical Role but I've heard that campaign 2 revolves around Tharzidun. If that sword is on Exandria then the Mighty Neign may have a cursed sword to worry about eventually.

You know there is the possibility that the high-technology you come acrossed could actually made by some Far distant future version of humans time in Dungeons & Dragons is not a linear phenomena

The Servant of Leuk-O did make an appearance in 3.5 with the series of "crossover" articles for using D&D, D20Modern/Future, and Star Wars (RCR era) stuff in the other games that includes a potential origin for the Servant (Something similar to the barrier between Urban Arcana and the norma lD&D multiverse

I can totes see the Mighty Servant of Leuk-O being used as a mech and could be perfect for a D&D mech piloting game.

Forgotten Realms next world shattering event : The Aliens invade with 1000s of Mech-warriors. During the Titanic battles to save the FRs, some much magic is released the weave seeks to replenish itself opening up mostly unstable portals across the land. Forgotten Realms is now a world resembling Rifts Earth. Lol😈

I have in my campaing a space ship that crashed on the mountain in the north and its survivors where dupt as iron devils for the armors they jused. Now a days a strange blue glowing mist covers the mountains top, its named blue mist mountain. As many artifacts have spread around the world like cube library and plasma axe. And curently the villains are jusin reverce engineered teck to sell and cause chaos and mayhem in the kingdoms, and now my players they stole their crown jewel a massive battle suit big as storm giant and farr more power full.

I will now take a moment to state simply that charging the tanks is the RIGHT thing to do with infantry. You will take heavy losses anyway, you are facing tanks with infantry for some reason. Get your infantry in close, and board the enemy tanks. Congratulations. You have turned a mutli-ton war machine into a glorified rolling prison box.

Machine of lum is scp 914 clockwork machine. I was thinking that and maybe like the autodoc of New Vegas. Where yeah it can do cybernetics but you lose your humanity. Maybe a little true polymorph in there.

I'm kinda on my own in this but I figured I'd share my thoughts. I'm not that big a fan of "magic as technology" etc in my game. I love introducing minor isolated elements like origional D&D, but I do not like having it as standard fare. I like my D&D low magic where the world does not fully understand mechanical or magical items on average. Something closer to the Conan series than the modern D&D sense. This has lead me to play 1st and 2nd edition more and play Basic Fantasy. Anyway, I understand that you disagree A.J. but I just don't find "Magic as technology" being everywhere nearly as entertaining. Thanks for reading and enjoy your games.

A sliding scale of insanity is good. Letting players know that the cost of using that thing, is mental. Even add some dice rolls rather than just arbitrary ratcheting it up by one each time. And maybe a clerical rehab centre for their P.C.s to be dragged off to & chained to their rooms in the ward by the rest of the party. After frisking them for lockpicks and minature lockpicking spell books. They're "heroes" after all.

The command "transformers, combine", when TMSoLO and TMoLtM are within 300' may cause the two to join into a giant armored robot named opticus primae.transformancy, more than meets the eye. Of course this is a power neither Lum or Luek discovered, but Alafan did. You're welcome.

When I got my 5th edition books for D&D I read through the Dungeon Master book thoroughly since I was going to be the DM. The moment I read the page with jet packs and lazers I immediately integrated it into the Princes of the apocalypse campaign I was going to run. I added a home brewed extradimensional faction with high technology, but low magic. A splinter group went against the wishes of the faction and are now aiding the cultist with the aim to using the primordial powers to grant them powerful magic so they can rule the world with both high tech and magic. Both would deliberately use weapons and armor that was not their most advance gear such as power swords, automatic crossbows, etc. This was to ensure if anyone stole their gear it would not be their more advance gear like plasma canons and power armor and would only bring them out in dire situations.

First: I would love a general Artifacts video. Second: It would be very interesting to through this against the Warforged Collusi of Ebberon. I already had idea for a campaign where the slaying of an Ebberonesque Orc Tribe leads to a full on invasion of a spelljammer armada. Throw this in early in the campaign and you have everything you need for players who are fans of mecha anime. Maybe give the five players on the outside weapon mounts with similar function to the infernal machines.

perhaps machine of lum the mad be a control panel for a space section? maybe has same same relation to ring of gaxx? which is an alien artfifact on its own, and someplaces tell its found near a spaceship on early editions? maybe could be a fun a campgain where you collect these artifacts and complete space ships, perhaps you need travel spheres for its other parts for a star trek war drive ship, which would give a strange reputation while the others sphere travelers use spelljamming vassals which are as defensive as magic boats so there is a lot posiblities of it such as pcs being evil and the spheres make an allience to stop them and ect. People would find a vreative ways to use this I hope.

As a mechanical weapon wouldnt this artifact cause the reverse effect from repeated use? That is, wouldnt it cause the user to bound up in a slow loss of chaos and magic as the machine operates literally of Laws of the Material World. I do understand that the Machine was lost in the Limbo Dimension. Is this the only reason it causes a shift to Chaos?

Here's my theory as to their origin: the Suel unearthed either the machines fully intact, or the knowledge to construct the artifacts, from the technologies discovered in the crashed spaceship in the Barrier Peaks. They used the knowledge gained (and the artifacts) to conquer the people surrounding them. The Oeridians then either stole or captured the artifacts (or enough of the bits of the original machines to reconstruct them) from the Suel when they escaped from their bondage, and used them to sweep aside all resistance to their conquering the Flanaess. How else could they have defeated the remnants of Vecna's Occluded empire and the Ur-Flan when they were not known for their own prowess with magic yet? Those machines were never fully understood, hence their uniqueness. That was how I spun it in my blog, "Greyhawk Musings," anyway.
