"I did a video on that" is something that must go through AJ's mind alot when gaming.

It's not that death itself is evil. It's that death is intrinsically *very* powerful, so evil pursues control of it.

It seems he really won his feud with Szass Tam, because he ended up a god in the end.

Something to note: Velsharoon seems to be a lot older than Szass. He's mentioned to have fought a Halruaan wizard some five centuries before he ascended to godhood. It's worth noting that while Vecna is a god that happens to be undead, he's not a god of undeath. The deity of liches is Mellifleur, the deity of vampires Kanchelsis. Velsharoon is specifically the Faerunian deity of lichdom, and shares Death's Embrace with Mellifleur on Gehenna. I guess the technical deity of undeath in core would be Kyuss, but Kyuss no longer has Nerull support, with implication that the reason he was stuck in his obelisk was because Mellifleur siphoned the divine energy Nerull was expending to elevate Kyuss to himself.

Since I always play a Necro, Velsharoon is my patron of choice.

I have a suspicion that if I lived in a world where magic was readily available, I would walk some very dark roads.

I always chuckle that Jergal doesn't like undead, but then he certainly had liches on hand to get finger bones from, so Bane, Bhasl, and Myrkul could play their game when they reached His bone throne. Still, Velsharoon is a neat, if sometimes painfully minor deity.

If they ever combine worlds, I want to see Velsharoon, Vecna, and Orcus fight over control over the undeath domain.

The guy literally became insane over his necromancy soap opera called "Long Live The Mortician".

Setting up Velsharoon's recovery after being presumed dead and desire for more power as supporting plot point in my homebrew. Basically the characters wind up involved in the machinations of a powerful vampire-lich of my own creation who desires Velsharoon's portfolio as a stepping stone to greater divinity. Great stuff here!

Velsharoon seems to be the more chill out of the two necromancers turned god of undeath. Save for the release of undead that no longer have a use (because that's just a poor practice for when that "unbound" undead comes into contact with other living beings) having once been a wizard of Thay means that he'd probably essentially be a sort of God of Kjowledge/Discovery too, right?

You just gave me a time-warp. A lovely one, I assure you. The gods of the world were gods of a low-magic world. The only priests were paladins and herbal healer priests with about the same healing magic albeit enhanced by their herbalism. Top-tier magic was mostly controlled by the evilest of people. I did not restrict my players in creating their characters nor their history. I just wrote them in based on their perception of the world. They were all from the same town, I gave a description and all the town's worldviews. They considered their town awesome and the best place to trade anything and recover. The paladin of the group, on a lark, did his Detect Evil on the town's easy access magical healers. They were all evil. He only knew them as no-questions-asked healer mercenary but was shocked that they were evil. The party was a good-aligned party. After finding that fact out, they drugged the PC paladin and snuck away to do any major healing of a party member with the bad guys. Eventually, the paladin found out and he lost his paladin status by siding with the party. The Goddess of Mischief seduced him, restored his powers, but altered his ethos he needed to follow. She guided him in voice each step of the way. The top enemy of the party in one mission was this, a party led by a paladin of his former caliber and the goody-2-shoe version of his party. I expected the PC party to lose, they were supposed to refuse to fight based upon the story I made. They fought and won... barely. I was obligated to re-script the world based upon that victory. It was well earned.

Also . This is ne'er suicidal but what route would you take it killing him. Make a deal with other deities that hate him, destroy his church's to make him weaker or say fuck it and mess with the primordials.

Undeath is a very intresting thing since it bridges the gap between death and life two of our most thought about and percived concepts this makes necromancy a concept thats bound to occure no matter what would as their will always be those who cross the line

I wonder if it is a strange coincidence that is origin his so similar to Mellifleur (different, but similar)....

Hey AJ I wanted to thank you for checking out my friend and I channel the other day. I know what we have right now isn't the greatest and we don't have access to what we need to make videos the way we want yet but I hope when we do you would stop by again. Great videos as always AJ.

Really like your videos I'm not even close to watching all of them because you make a ton which is sweet. If you ever get some free time and you're looking for a video to make or whatever I'd be super interested in hearing about the tritons. They are a race from volos that I think is really cool and pretty interesting but I don't really know anything about him and I've never read a book that included them so be cool if you could dig anything up

I'm honestly super hyped to hear he's technically still active because I found this guy and he was instantly a perfect fit for a pair of characters I cooked up coming from the same sort of religious background. Obvs death domain gods and undying patrons usually don't meld super well since most death domain gods hate undeath. He's a super interesting dude.

I gotta say that out of the two undeath gods, its gotta be Velsaroon over Vecna. He just seems to be a more complex villain while Vecna is more your stereotypical villain. Velsaroon is still an evil dude but he has a more ends justify the means, i just really enjoy villains whos goals which could considered noble but how they try to achieve this goal is which ultimately makes them a villain.

I've not played TT since 2E (the nerd population died off around these parts) but in videogames I always picked him for my wizards chosen deity if available. Now the dead three are back (kind of), I'll likely headcannon a wizard/cleric trying to get Myrkul his old job back I'll never forget talking to Myrkul in Neverwinter Nights 2, quite the set piece.

He's like a combination of Nerull, Boccob and Vecna. God of the undead(Nerull), obsessed with the acquisition of knowledge(Boccob) and looks like/is a Lich (Vecna)

Could some play a "white" necromancer that only raises unintelligent creature or evil creatures? the "white" necromancer would never raise a human,dwarf, elf, gnome or Halfling but would raise a orc(including half orcs), goblin, gnoll, wild animal and may go so far as raising a family's pet see it as a waste to just bury the dog or horse. what would a village think of an adventurer like that?

how does Orcus relate to Velsharoon?

Huh, the cultists don't actually seem all that bad, they seem more neutral to me. They aren't the typical murder hobo style cult, they are actually helpful sometimes. Velsharoon himself is a different story though.
