Okay, the fact we get a cameo from the characters from the 80s cartoon is enough to get me excited for this.

1:56 - That was Hank, Bobby, Shelia, Diana, Eric and Presto from the animated tv series, Dungeons & Dragons (1983). 🐉

When the barbarian opens the chest and gets a battle axe, I can't help but be disappointed he didn't get a Great club. It's interesting to note that Sheila has her cloak, and Presto still has his hat, even though the rest of them appear to have been disarmed.

When I first watched the movie and the other group at 0:58 appeared -- it literally triggered something buried deep within my brain. I had completely forgotten over the years that there even was a cartoon in the 80's. But when those characters in those combination of outfits appeared all the sudden I remembered the show that I had watched it as a 12-year old boy. What an excellent addition for an old D&D fan like myself!

For them to put the D&D cartoon group, means they really did their research and made these movies for the fans.

I love how the most replayed part of this video is when the original D&D characters from the cartoon come onto the screen at 0:57.

They should make a real movie with the 80s party.

The displacer beast has long been one of my favorite monsters. I was worried they'd do it dirty, but I'm happy with it. And nice one with the 80s D&D cartoon group.

I thought from the trailer I had probably seen all the best bits.... but I was wrong. This film was really entertaining, from beginning to end. It had princess bride style humour. The cameo of the cartoon characters was nice.....a cartoon from my childhood.

Just saw it. So much better than any of the previous D&D based films. There's humor, action and even some character growth. I've played D&D, so I was recognized some monsters and spells, but you really don't need to be into D&D or gaming to enjoy it. Good to watch with friends, or even a date film. Battles but no gore other than a few corpses. I'd see it again.

Also for those who don't know one of the dangers of a gelatinous cube is the slime they are comprised of actually contains a paralytic agent. That's why the barbarian had to pull the druid out even though she only had her hand stuck in it. Fun fact: there is an item in older editions of D&D primarily made by goblenoid underground species called an amulet of ooze riding. IT projects a small spherical force field around the wearer that prevents ooze from actually touching it. The rider then simply kicks the side of the sphere that they want the ooze to move towards. Actually dismounting the ooze is considerably more difficult however.... Goblins are known for being clever but not necessarily smart.

This movie was fantastic, along with the little details, dropped like cookie crumbs but not slowing down the pacing. Heart was a prominent theme and it felt as is you wanted to root for the protagonist(s) the entire time. As a resident fan of D&D, the Johns got it right! There was plenty of little details that were spot on to the game, but never once overshadowed the story and pacing of the film. I was smitten for 2 hours and twenty minutes. A huge home run for me. Seeing it again in theaters on April 6th!

And that's how you do a preview or teaser trailer! And thank you for the cartoon easter eggs. For those of us who are old enough to remember watching it on Saturday morning and playing with our friends Saturday night, this is fan service at its finest.

I personally like how the powers of the monsters are portrayed, especially the displacer beast.

I wonder if that means that after the conclusion of the cartoon's unofficial final, "Requiem", the kids decided to stay in the D&D realm, and whether this is also a subtle hint to the current IDW Publishing comic miniseries "Saturday Morning Adventures", where they are (in issue #1) summoned from the cartoon D&D realms into the Forgotten Realms.

Loved seeing the D&D Characters from the 80s cartoon. Lifted my soul right up as I always loved that cartoon as cheesy as it seems to some adults, but my 8-year-old brain loved it, and the stories and fight music were great! Seeing the group brought to life in a modern setting is something I have dreamed of. Hopefully we can get another peek at them in any subsequent films they make. Would love to see some of their weapons in action, even if it's just a bolt from Hank's bow flying past in the background. For anyone who is worried that they killed them off in this film. They are in a Sanctuary Cage, which means they made it through to the next round of the games. The Red Mages death spell only hit the people in the area she was in before being cut off. So, I am saying they are alive and well!

I never thought that the displacer beast will use their tentacles as a projector.

I'm glad I got to see how Thayan knights were because I played a rogue that was going to murder 3 red Wizards and frame their bodyguard. Good thing I opted for plan b.. leave them to pay for our rooms and dip out of town.

The maze is made up of 5 foot squares.

As long as the audience takes this movie as seriously as it takes itself, we're all going to have a fun time.

I don't know if anyone has played Might and Magic but in Might and Magic 7, there's an arena that's very similar to this. There are platforms that raise and lower to reveal monsters and create a maze, although not nearly as elaborate as this.

I am SO happy they added the 80s group in the movie for a few seconds. It was my favorite cartoon and I'm so glad they weren't left to just collect dust

I just love that smile like expression the Displacer beast makes at 2:21, as if its thinking "Hi there Dumbass" before going in for the kill, it truly plays its hunts smart in this part going after everyone one by one picking them off, it fools its prey by like making an illusion of itself with its tentacles to make people think it's right there in front of them while the real creature walks up behind them and once the person notices it's a fake and turns seeing the real one, it goes pounces going in for the kill, kinda reminds me of how real life Jaguars use their environment to sneak up to kill their prey. The Displacer beast uses its tentacles and creates an illusion of itself to fool its prey in this scene while it sneaks up and kills them I literally love this creature now after seeing this movie, it really made an impact for me, I also love that chuckle like growl it makes and its smile, they did a great job at giving this creature facial expressions even if it's for just a few moments. I also love that as soon as they all see this creature, Edgin literally shouts to run and they all high tail it into the maze.

It'll be great if Minsc, Boo, Drizzt and his gang made it into the Maze, but the original 80's D&D crew, had my jaw dropped and turned into a smile because I've watched the cartoon on Fox Kids in the 90's. They took word from Edgin the Bard that the whole Arena is a trap and possibly made it out alive.

I went to see this movie today, I was super nervous (I’ll be honest). It was actually really really good! There was clear love for the characters and the team, and the questing was as chaotic and fun as a D&D session. I would recommend a questing guild to check it out.

In the cartoon wasn't Bobby like 10?? Damn they been stuck for a long time (since in this Bobby looks WAY OLDER). Also when will the ranger get a flipping hair cut!!

Like many of the commenters here, LOVED the 80s cartoon group cameo... but was the other group also a reference to something? I imagine it would have been logistically impossible, but would have been awesome for the other group to look like the Vox Machina folx.

When my kids and I saw the 80s kids, we cheered!

It's amazing how the lighting didn't change as they went up from a dark hole all the way to the arena floor.

I watched this in the cinema last month and I remember the main party standing on the platform, rising up into the arena. Then I noticed the camera shift and I remember thinking: "Oh they are probably going to introduce a few other groups of characters just for this arena scene... how great would it be if we got a cameo from an actual DnD group, such as the 80's cartoon characters". You should've seen my face in the seconds thereafter.

They put Eric in the back and you gotta be quick to see him just behind Presto, too bad Dungeon Master or Venger couldn't make a cameo

I thought that was a really cool scene. As soon as they ran cross the scene, the color combos caught my and a big smile flashed across my face.

I was all smiles to see my old cartoon D&D kids in the movie.I was hoping the movie would have been about them .I see they got their weapons taken again but they always seem to find a clever way out of any situation so I know they found a way out of that cage and arena.that means venger was looming somewhere more powerful than the red wizard and dungeon master over sees all of it.

At the 1 minute mark, when the maze is being constructed, the rhythmic sound feels perfect for some techno.

One dwarf in the entire movie and he gets murdered, THIS IS GOING IN THE BOOK

I was SO excited to see the D&D cartoon kids in the movie. It was an awesome touch. I hope we see them again. Totally epic. I had to rewind when they first appeared. And was anyone else reminded of the maze in one episode where the kids took a girl from Earth who could see the future and sent her back home? It was really similar to that one with the shifting walls etc. it would be cool if they took inspiration from that

I actually had to pause and go back when I first watched this. I was like "wait a minute...NO WAY!" I remember watching the cartoon as a little kid in the 80s.

I really enjoyed seeing the characters from the D&D cartoon. It would have been great to see them using their weapons in a deleted scene.

I would have liked a group from arcade D&D tower of doom/shadow over mystara games, or some baldur's games characters either... but having the 80s cartoon was nice.

Not just Dungeons and Dragons! It’s also “Mazes and Monsters” reference! This movie was fun. I really enjoyed how each character really “played” their part like you do when you role play D&D. The Paladin especially. Hope they make a sequel. The only thing that slowed it down, was the actress who played Chris Pine’s daughter. Poor casting decision. Like a bad acting class. But super fun and well worth seeing it in theaters.

Does anybody recognize the colors and costumes games of one of the group of set the main characters we're competing against is actually a reference to the cartoon of Dungeons & Dragons while the other I believe is referencing the three original movie trilogies I'm not sure because I haven't watched the original Three yet but I definitely seen the cartoon since it was a childhood favorite of mine on Cartoon Network on the repeats either way I like the cameo that represents the old cartoon
