When Hasbro cites the cost of plastic as the reason for the price hikes and then prices a whole ass dragon cheaper than the Gamerverse Spider-Man. SMDH. Lol.
Black Dragons, abnormally slender in comparison to other dragons, are solitary and extremely territorial. They live in swamps, jungles, and marshlands, their black glossy scales add to their camouflage in these environments. They breathe a stream of acid.
I really hope this movie does well and it opens up more D&D figure options going forward. Would love to see the real miniatures scaled up to 6" action figures!
I was actually talking to some of my friends who are dungeon masters about how this figure would do as an improvised mini, even though I know he is meant to be in-scale with 6" action figures. Put this figure on the table against your typical 28-30mm player character minis and you suddenly have a Colossal black dragon - definitely an Ancient at least, possibly even a Great Wyrm - and with that articulated jaw, he can even chomp on your poor players when he makes his Bite or Multiattack.
Well Robo, you’ve convinced me! I had no interest in this line, but after getting Drizzt and Guenhwyvar for a black panther to go with, well, Black Panther, your review has convinced me that I now need a black dragon to go with that dark elf! I’ve always appreciated how you’ve preached the mindset that a fun figure is a fun figure, and that you don’t need to know the property a figure is based on to enjoy it, so thanks for that!
Great review brother! Nothing more awesome than a cool dragon. I picked this up at my local Walmart for ten bucks today and 3 of the movie figures last week for three a piece! Enjoyed the video!
This will be the cheapest "Ancient Black Dragon " available for your 25mm gaming miniatures. And no doubt more of these will be sold to gamers than action figure collectors!
Nice price point for the size! Though I do wish they would have shot for $50 instead and used the extra $ to tool in more articulation. It's a little static for what's supposed to be a menacing evil dragon. Especially disappointing considering the fantastic articulation they did for both Guenhwyvar and Timber. Ah well.
Here I was thinking 'was this something announced that I missed?' but then you mentioned just wandering around and seeing it on the store shelf, which is cool. Over this last month I've been leaning more into that, turning my focus to picking up figures that released last year that I didn't pay much attention to at the time, but now deciding to pick up if I see them in person. It's nice to remove any degree of anticipation or sense of rush that there was with everything releasing all at once at the end of last year, and instead buying figures on the basis of 'that looks cool'.
That is a sweet looking black dragon. The solid clickiness of the parts connections is a nice surprise. So much of Hasbro's stuff these days feels a bit flimsy with questionable plastic and often riddled with QC issues. I might pick this up, especially after studying black dragon artwork and reading up on them a lot for building a pretty sizeable MOC (my own creation) custom black dragon for Lego's Ideas Dungeons & Dragons contest. (Sadly, I didn't get selected but it was fun nonetheless.)
I'm not a fan of the skinny/thin front arms, thinking about doing some work to swap them. Maybe a JP dino or those BattleCat front limbs... just something to give them a little more volume. Thanks for the vid, great review as always!
I'm a fan of fantasy and this would be an awesome addition to my MOTU collection as I need more creatures. I could see using this as a creature that either Skeletor or Evil Lyn summon.
I was looking at this, mostly for the (bat) wings for a custom, but those tabs look bigger than ML scale head. Forget trying to attach them to a ML torso! I might get this guy on clearance. Grabbed that Battle Cat for $17 tonight after work. (And reconsidered a retro card Palpatine for same this afternoon, saw the two Lando’s I ignored earlier now marked for $9! Palps was still $17, WM app tagged it at $19.99. 🙄) Oh and YES!!! #CrosstimeCaper was my JAM back in the day! I’m still waiting for gold Meggan and Diamond suit Braddock! And RACHEL!!!
Pretty looking dragon. I assume this is from Hasbro since this is from the movie line? I do wish there is a bit more articulation with the legs, neck and tail, but I guess that would increase the price. I’m expecting the movie toys will be in clearance at some point in the future regardless of how the movie does in the box office.
Looks cool, but a bit sad it doesn't even have half the articulation of the Beast Hunters Predaking dragon form... leader, voyager or even commander class. That said Id absolutely grab it on sale, since 60$ Canadian is a bit steep.
$35 is fine. I was afraid they were gonna charge $50 for this. Though, I wouldn’t mind a deluxe version if it had more articulation and/or was electronic and had a water squirting gimmick to mimic its acid breath.
I just got 2 of the retro d&d figs on clearance and they are full of QC issues. I also got one of the movie line figs and I was disappointed in that too. I wanted to collect this line but it just seems cheap and outdated.
Funny, I'd say there's something very parochial about assuming every collector has 1/18 scale figures, especially when poking one's head in on a channel devoted solely to 1/12 and 1/11 scale.
