13:30, this is actually among the jokes my DnD friends found the most hilarious. Like literally the DM is writing his character out of the campaign (either because he was an NPC or because his player could only make it for one session)

I've seen it, and its a very well-done, well put-together film. I really, really enjoyed it.

Just saw this movie and I had a great time with it. I didn’t expect it to be so funny, and it had a lot of heart to it. Would love to see more stories done with the DND premise, there’s a lot of potential.

This review further made me question about the awkward Oscar interview with Hugh Grant on the red carpet. He's coming up in this massive big budget Dungeons and Dragons movie and she never asked him anything about his next upcoming movie and how he's been doing since the build up to the release but she asks him about his suit? It almost feels like Hollywood wasn't taking D&D seriously.

This is an excellent analysis. I have seen the movie twice. My review... Fun.

As I understood it - Xenk (the Paladin) is not meant to represent a "player" but rather an NPC (a non-player character) who the DM (the person who runs the game) inserts into the plot to aid the players through a difficult encounter they otherwise would not be necessarily be able to defeat. That goes well with his robotic behavior and lack of understanding of humour.

Just on the note about "D&D world" This takes place (supposedly) in the Forgotten Realms (movie) setting, which is one world in the D&D Multiverse. Think of it like the Marvel or DC multiverse... Forgotten Realm's world of Toril is just the one that WotC has made their default-for-everything setting. Other ssettings include Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Dragonlance, Eberron, Birthright, and a bunch more...and those are just the official ones... if you get into everything that was 3rd party material, you can technically add Pathfinder, Midgard, Freeport, and many more to that. Also... There was a D&D movie in 2008... an animated movie called "Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight"... without a doubt the best D&D movie until this latest one (not that that's a high bar).

Was rewatching some of Dominic Nobles videos and saw the Stormbreaker crossover, bit late to the party but cool to see you outside the old Channel Awesome stuff.

...now that you mention it, even the Underdark scenes were quite well lit

I love How they had a Bard but he did zero Bard things. I still dont know what made this an DnD movie. Was just like a random fantasy heist movie.

As bad as the old DND movies were, the first one kinda plays like folks sitting at the table and trying to screw with their DM. This one feels more like they were trying to take the campaign seriously while still having fun.

honestly imo I kind of think an alternate way to do a film would not even have D&D in the title and just base the story in one of the settings. Viewers would only find out after-the-fact if they decided to look into it. For example; if they decided to finally make films based on the popular dark elf Drizzt.
