@@thomasrosebrough9062 its not edited or out of context, he really said this during the show, but hes also just a streamer making a joke, game is Unrooted from Mizkif
Never stop man. Even when I don't watch you for months I always come back to be reminded what it means to stay true to yourself. You are very much loved dunkey and I wish you the best in life. Much love.
E3 has been slowly dyeing for years. It is no longer the big event to learn about games it was years ago. At best you get cinematic trailers that lie about a game and people who have no idea about video games being the ones leading and talking about them but act like they have been playing them all the time. Its kind of sad that its devolved into this. The industry is basically becoming hollywood but watered down rather than the niche market it was. Its great the industry expands its not great when it is absorbed by other industries notions that clearly don't work and show how out of touch companies are becoming with their consumers.
I hope that we never let Asmongold forget just how much of an embarrassment this event was and how he participated in it. His videos on some games have been a joke and he deserves the criticism.
Did you say Resident Evil 4? Dont make me laugh lol. That game is so trash that they have to remake it 20 years later before making the sequel: Resident Evil 4: 2
The 'how the f**k would I know' is the funniest thing I've ever seen, sometimes watching Dunkey it's like having Robin Williams as a RU-vidr, he's just on another level
Okay, I was definitely expecting Dunkey to criticize Sonic Frontiers, but I didn’t think he would criticize it for not being janky and glitchy enough. Well played.
@AndrewWithEase11 11 ? The graphics look like shit though. Not sure why they wouldn't make them a bit more cartoony, but they look absolutely souless..
I fucking HOWLED when they said "Starfield is the most anticipated open-world RPG in the last 20 years." Like I get that you're meant to build up your game, but the absolute audacity that the studio that's been re-releasing Skyrim for the past 11 years is making the next big thing is so funny to me.
I don't think it will be good. An rpg in space seems like a bad idea unless it's like mass effect. I would play the shit out of an open world mass effect game though
@@brian.phillips1985 It was that way until f76, I'd say. F4 broke multiple launch records and made 750 mil in a day. If this game is great, like Skyrim levels of great, which is difficult to imagine, they could easily regain a lot of good will.
@@user-ez9ng2rw9c Actually it makes me think, when Bethesda stopped being ambitious with their titles that's when the hype of their games died, so after Fallout 4
@@magicmanscott40k They did that, it was called Andromeda, and it was not good. Open World inevitably means weaker stories―franchises like Mass Effect can really only be hurt by the format
@@benedikta.9121 No it actually was better, do you not remember the early 2000s? It went from being an actual trade show where industry experts and veterans attended giving talks and showing stuff off. To today where it’s litterally only advertising, at worst the advertising used to get was during new console generations but even then it wasn’t so overproduced and corporate.
"So, what's your game?" "Oh you see we tried to copy X." "Cause you wanted to put your own spin on it and try and make a memorable game?" "Heck no we just saw X made a lot of money and we like that."
@@SonplaysMinEcraft the next MegaMan game is gonna be open world with towers you climb on to gain a vantage point and unlock parts of the map, and there's gonna be a crafting and durability system so you can upgrade your buster blaster, and you have to repair your android body if it gets damaged with materials you the find from the enemies and the environment
these are the voyages of the game industry "insert game company here." It's continuing mission: to explore boring, done-to-death ideas, to seek out easy money and the easy way out, and to boldly go where everyone has gone before!
yes, there has been a massive creative black hole since 2019 @ least. games that stand out have been few & far between. covid messed everything up & life hasn't returned yet.
@@Leonard_Wolf_2056 I’d say rather than it being completely devoid since 2012, it’s almost as if it peaked in 2012, stagnated and slumped a bit for a couple of years and then it’s been on a downward slope ever since with a few blips here and there to keep it interesting, but as time goes on fewer good games have been released or even realized (as in approved, funded, produced, etc).
I do indeed play games, including but not limited to: Balan Wonderworld, The Last Guardian, Knack and everyone's most anticipated game of 2022: Sonic Frontiers.
Glad you are excited man! I’ve spent hours watching your videos stoned out my mind with your unique take on video games thank you for the hours of free entertainment
2:06 "This studio is great at making unintentional comedies and I do not understand how they got the Star Wars License." To be fair that first part applies nicely to recent Disney products as well, so they seem well-suited for each other.
Well, the Prequels are also kinda like that. Don't get me wrong, Disney 1-3 are fucking dogshit. But you can turn the Prequels into a drinking game if you drink every time Anakin acts like a creep or a child.
It's kinda unprofitable from a business standpoint though if you think about it. I mean, those people already own the two copies of Alan Wake that are being produced
It's surprising that Alan Wake was known to like three people while I was in high school and in college like none at the time of that game's release it was completely a breadth of fresh air The atmosphere, the dark elements, the characters, the music, the whole path view of the chapter, and then the optional document collection like how we do in Control to understand the phenomenons that happen around Remedy is the only studio whose games are rather suggested than told Alan Wake was hype for me in Control's second DLC expansion pack AWE
Is it unknown? It is fairly known among my friends, I thought it was widely known too. I played it and the atmosphere is tremendous but it gets repetitive very early in both gameplay and maps so in the end I didn't like it. I would have absolutely loved Alan Wake if it just consisted in freely roaming the town doing minor tasks for the townfolk.
i liked alan wake. shit was dope. biggest meme from that game is THE DARKNESS. i say that shit like once a week and nobody knows wtf im talkin about LOL
I honestly thought that E3 had already been taken out the back of the barn and shot. Watching that video Asmongold had it right - a massive cringy facepalm.
Back when open world was still innovative, I'm guessing the success of titles like TES: Oblivion, Skyrim, fallout 3, etc... had a huge impact on the industry. Then look at the ungodly hype surrounding Fallout 4 in 2015. You'd be an idiotic marketeer if you didn't at least try to capitalize off of trends. Unfortunately, that means a more severe lack of creativity. As if tight, detailed, attention-demanding level design is somehow less satisfying to play than a boring sandbox with nothing interesting happening anywhere other than the same random encounters over and over again at unrealistic rates.
@@RedFloyd469 But back then the open world's where more then only innovative, they where actually handcrafted worlds (like Morrowind) bringing an impression of what the developer had in mind, an 'atmosphere.' And sometimes you like the atmosphere it portrays or sometimes you don't. (it isn't your style) But it's better then open world games nowadays, where they essentially take a big map, a playground, and fill it with objects so it's hidden that it's only skin deep.
1:09 "They're remaking Resident Evil 4... doesn't really need a remake. They're remaking The Last of Us... *definitely* doesn't need a remake." That's what I've been saying since the rumors started: these two don't need remakes... or at least not yet.
Why did he call ff7R's story butcherd? It's fine I've never heard hard core ff fans complaining about the game. The only thing we complained about was the fact that there are multiple parts
@@lone-dmc9174 there were some changes between fl7 & ff7R and donkey probably didn't like them so it's probably that, I love remake version but everyone has opinion eh
@@ultimateupgrade828 I mean the changes obviously make it some sort of time sequel I mean it was a little bit of a piss take that there was a fight with Sephiroth that early in the story ig but it isn't butched it's still a very good experience
"Name one thing Modern Warfare changed" has me wheezing That line was the most generic video-game presentation line in the history of the universe and Dunkey's clap back was perfection
Modern Warfare made every game grey and very, very serious for a few years. Thanks for that, Modern warfare. I remember when Medal of honor was a fun game series and then they made Medal of honor warfighter. Remember when Battlefield and Call of duty were different games? Suddenly they were the same game. There was also the sniper ghost warrior game series. They didn't have the budged to make a whole CoD, so they only did the mission where you were a sniper but like sixteen times. So basically AAA games were really bad for a while. But I guess that means nothing really changed.
@@tharrock337 no the funny thing is they weren't even referring to cod 4 were they.... they were referring to the remake of cod 4 that came out 2 years ago lmao
To be fair, MW19 did just what COD 4 did for the franchise and the rest of the FPS games, now you will see every new shooter game using tactical reloads and shit everywhere thanks to MW19, they did an excellent job
@@thejoulesthief6841 Yes, I haven't played it, that much it's obvious. There's no need to get all pompous about it and use your overused twitter response. Still, thanks for the explanation.
@@mrjosh218 It means it's marketing speak for saying they're pretending to do something new instead of doing what everyone else is doing. They're both still just open-world games but with a gimmick and the attempt to rebrand that genre tag just comes off as pretentious.
I not only played Alan Wake on release, I bought the collectors edition. I liked it so much I was Alan Wake for Halloween. No one at my school, or even in my circle of friends had any idea what I was.
It's amazing how developed the humor-lore of Dunkey's videos have become. Many jokes are references to the now-cancelled Amogus Tuesdays, which only the most diehard fans will understand. I love you bunky
He had to cancel Among Us Tuesday to make more time for Among Us Thursdays and Among Us wrap-up on Saturdays... can't blame him, though the I would've cancelled Fall Guys Wednesdays instead
Hey Jason, just though you'd like to know kitty0706, (who died of leukemia) played Alan wake. He was also a fan of yours as your video was one of the last he publicly liked. You can still see it on his channel.
Wait for him to be critical of Nintendo then we'll talk. Fucking smash Bros is still 70 bucks on the switch store like it just came out 3 months ago or something. And meanwhile Nintendo is still making it impossible for their most dedicated fans to mod and archive their nearly 30 year old titles.
@@TheGlenn8 This is all stuff Dunkey has talked about previously. He has acknowledged that Nintendo as a company is incredibly incompetent and the only thing keeping them in the industry is how good their games are.
I mean it cant be worse than Forces, right? Please, Sega, just give us good gameplay, we dont need a complex story and 30 characters, for the love of god...
Another incredible year for the gaming. Lots of original ideas, never felt like I've played any of these before. That is to say that there is a grand total of 2 games im kinda looking forward to releasing in the next 12 months, 1 AAA title and 1 indie. Very exciting time!
Honestly, the critique you had of Starfield is exactly how I felt with Outer Worlds. Years ago, it would've been innovative, but now, it's just standard.
from what ive seen of the game it looks pretty fun and most people who played the demo at summer games fest said it was really good (one person even said it was game of the year material) so i guess we'll see how it turns out
Honestly, "Kind of but not actually open world Sonic" sounds kind of vaguely like the Sonic Adventure games, so if they can make one that's actually functional it could potentially be good? That said, don't get your hopes up, obviously.
Same! I really hope that Sonic Team can pull off a good release this time, and it's obvious they can be capable of doing so. And if they do, an open-zone Sonic game where you can pick up speed quickly sounds amazing
What was that, really?! How can something like this even happen?! The cracking voice, low energy, no follow up, curling on himself, embarrassed looks all around.... Even awkward comedy sitcoms can't come up with sh*t that effective.
I really really want the game to succeed, clearly Todd is extremely passionate about this and Bethesda is really trying to make something special here, but.......................................................I don't trust Bethesda one bit
@@skandosh9025 The fallout 4 quest system was poorly designed, uninspired, and completely lacking in memorable content. Fallout new vegas was the high point of the series, exactly because of the strong writing of characters, quest design, world design and the story/lore. Bethesda lacks all of those things. I'm not even talking about the absolute disaster that was and still is Fallout 76. From everything shown during the showcase, Starfield is just 2015 fallout 4 in space, with randomly generated worlds that are completely uninteresting, completely bland and void of meaningful interactions. It's no man's sky but with crappy robotic facial animations and a quest system designed by an idiot that quite literally openly said he believes quests and stories should be simplistic action->reward systems with no meaningful content behind it whatsoever. Bethesda is dead, creativity-wise. Don't hold your breath. I know we're beating the rotten skeletal remains of a dead horse at this point, but I simply don't see why anybody would ever be excited about anything they release post 2011 (Skyrim was just as mediocre as fallout 4, but at least that game still had the benefit of the doubt at this point.)
@@RedFloyd469 funniest part is that New Vegas isn't even a Bethesda game, it was made by Obsidian. The bethesda game that I consider to have some of the best quests would probably be Oblivion or maybe Morrowind, but I'm a huge elder scrolls nerd so that may just be my opinion.
I've been playing so many platformers every day for years while trapped inside the 100 Thieves Cash App Compound Totino's Fortnite Training Room, where I toil day and night creating Twitch content while Gen Z devils ironically poke me with pitchforks and stuff me full of Red Bull and pizza rolls.
