Whatever you guys are paying Andy to Demo/Sell this stuff, it's not enough. The guy is a monster guitarist. If I ever meet him, drinks are on me. Cheers!
I can't believe it took them this long to put the Fuzz Face into a smaller enclosure. Plenty of other, smaller fuzzes out there...but this thing is so cool! I want one!
This demo is so good, that I decided to use my fuzz factory, which is a very confusing effect. Unbeliveably I got some nice *musical* tones out of it, and that's both rare and exciting. Keep up the good work! :)
Just got this and on the 9V wall power it was Meh... It was actually going back. Then I read this and pulled a 9V from the smoke detector and wowza big difference ! It sounds amazing with a little less juice and easier to dial as well... This and my echorec together holy heaven !
it had been a while since i last saw one of these videos, i remembered how it was to be left completely *o* just by listening to someone play the guitar like that
I own it. Volume knob at max adds a slightly fuller EQ band, but makes it way too loud to use in a chain with other pedals. I keep my volume on this pedal at about the 2 oclock setting, and it sounds great.
LesterPaul01 Fuzz Faces generally sound their best flat out when played through a clean amp such as the Deluxe Reverb Andy's using here. The most common thing is to run the guitar's volume back if you want less fuzz.
I have been waiting for these since I heard about them! I think these are cute looking (even if they don't have the little smiley like old GIGANTOR ones). They sound nice too! It seems to have a lot more low end than the E-H Little Big Muff, but that might be due to the rest of your rig and that you play with flesh & nail, not picks. They really make the single coils scream in this vid! Great bight colors too, I love that!
My experience with Fuzz's have been pretty good. I first got a Boss ME-70 multi effects, and used the lower octave pedal combined with the fuzz to get a nice fuzzy bass tone. I recently downloaded all three BIAS programs, and i don't feel ripped off one bit. I love using the fuzz settings with my own clean amp, and I got my own Hendrix-like sound. Get BIAS first, then get real pedals.
Currently deciding on a fuzz face. Some videos have made me cautious about this pedal. This one keeps me leaning towards the blue over the Hendrix version. It's capable of gnarly sounds but it doesn't have to be. Bonus, the blue is cheaper than the Hendrix.
Germanium faces are definitely known for their thicker sound, which would be muddy on a humbucker. You're probably best off with the silicon (The Hendrix is also Silicon).
Love this dudes reviews but always wonder what the pedals sound like if he was playing with a pick. Unless his fingers are similar enough. But I know my fingers sound way different than a pick
yo. I just picked the FFM up from PGS (FAST shipping, btw), and immediately embarked on a shootout with it and my russian Big Muff Pi, through my Fender HR devill, gibson LP I think the Pi still has more of a violin-y sustain, more silky.. but when you lay in, it gets way heavier saturation. Think Siamese Dream, Pumpkins... The FFM has a more snarly tone, slighty more mid, less bass. It has an interesting decay- when I mute, it is VERY quiet, Yet barky! think: Cinnamon Girl - Neil Young
They're just the big ones in smaller versions, exact same circuits, but they add true bypass, led and battery compartiment for modern versatility, without changing the original tone ;)
What kind of strat is that? I am looking for a custom shop 1960 stratocaster in a seafoam green or sonic blue. But I am not a big fan of relics so I am searching for one that is NOS. That guitar looks like it might be what I am looking for. Thank you
I love my Fuzzface Mini, but if you're really wanting to disturb the neighbors, check out the Colossus from Mojo Hand FX...It's a Russian Big Muff clone with a 3-way eq switch plus a Mids knob! It's really grungy and really tweakable... I'm pickin one up this weekend!
This thing really sounds great, need to repair my DIY fuzz face, which spec of Transistors would you recommend? Are they just standard BC108's? What is the optimum rating for Q1/Q2?
I think they're just BC108s, though I've seen BC109s and other BC variants used. You're not going to be getting the perfect transistors, so it's better just get what you can get and bias them properly.
dakrushel, is this the first fuzzface you've used? If so, I can offer some pointers. Put the fuzz pedal first in line after your guitar (not after any non-true bypass pedals; if you have a boss tuner for example, put it after the fuzz pedal). Turn the fuzz knob up all the way. Put the pedal volume between 1:00-full on. Control the gain from your guitar volume knob. Roll guitar volume knob back for overdrive and cleaner tones. If that doesn't work, it might not be the pedal for you.
Now this is something I learnt. I have never used any of the older fuzz pedals. I use the guitar volume control a lot. But I do know that a cranked pedal with low guitar output is definitely different from a cranked guitar with a low gain control on a pedal. And I am just debating. Not bagging on this fuzz or even disagreeing with most comments. :)
So is the only difference between the mini faces and the original ones the size, LED light, etc? Or is there a tone difference? Also, what is deal with people talking about the volume being too low? I've never used a fuzz face so I don't know? Is the volume oddly low on all of these?
Since the volume knob is maxed, and even with the fuzz knob dimed out,it's not completely saturated... You think the secret for this pedal is putting it in front of a slightly dirty amp?
Low part count 1st and 2nd wave fuzz pedals are a very different beasts from modern fuzz pedals (think BMP and onward). All the flexibility and range come from how you hit the input, the knobs are approaching useless. Just a different kind of pedal, they are like a telecaster, a tele is super simple, but in the hands of someone who knows how to use it, it is a very versatile guitar.
If I may make a suggestion for your great reviews... I, and I'm certain many others, would dearly appreciate a breakdown of what excellent tunes you're playing along with the timing in the text introductions. In this case I was wondering about the music played in between the two main ones. Thank you!
