I lived in Dunoon in the early 60’s while my Dad was stationed there. I have fond memories of my time there. In October 2023 I brought my youngest son to visit. I got to visit the school I attended while I lived there. My visit was too short, I would like to return someday. I did visit Castle Hill and the museum while we were there. Thank you for the video.

That glen looked very enchanting. 😮 I have fond memories of Dunoon. I lived there back in 1978 to 1981.

It was a pleasure. It truly is a magical place, and Argyll and Bute Council need to make it safe, and maintain it, for the joy and benefit of locals and visitors.

Wonderful trip and for me a trip back in time. Was stationed in nearby Holy Loch with the US Navy back in 80/81. Was a busy place back then, every night was a weekend night with the sailors, marines and submariners hitting the town. The people were always friendly, well in their own way, would buy you rounds at the bar just to 'slag' you off lol. Dolphin bar was my hangout then. Sorry to see it seemed to go just a little too quiet now.

We stayed at the Glenmorag Hotel & Morags Fairy Glen was at the side of it. Wonderful views. Shame Hotel & Morags Fairy Glen is now closed.

I hadn't realised the hotel was closed too. It was a good example of a grand Victorian hotel. Hopefully it'll open again soon.

That was very enjoyable to follow you on your movie/music production on the explorations in and around Dunoon, thank you! I got more interested into Dunoon since that young couple bought (apparently by accident) in an auction an old villa and restores it now. I believe they nicknamed their project "What have we Dunoon", and seemingly attract a some others as helpers. :)

Fairies and Ferries! I notice some shaking in some of the shots. Too windy or the Image Stabilization don't agree with the tripod.
@EdExploresScotland
@EdExploresScotland 6 лет назад
Yeh, a little bit of wind. Anything over 7 or 8 mph plays havoc with things, even the microphone. Shooting things that are very far away are particularly prone to even the slightest breeze.

Speaking of microphone, beside the lavalier mic, are you only using the camera's built in mic? Did you ever think about a DIY sponge to dampen the wind noise?
@EdExploresScotland
@EdExploresScotland 6 лет назад
Had to check my dictionnairy for 'lavalier'. If I'm standing close to the camera and there's not a lot of background noise, like traffic, I'll just use the camera's built-in mic. Sometimes I'll use both the camera's built-in mic and the lavalier mic to get a good balance of voice and general sounds in the area. If I'm standing a good distance from the camera I'll just use the lavalier mic, although even then there'll be some volume from the camera mic to provide general stereo background sounds. The lavalier mic has a small pop-shield which should dampen any wind very slightly, but one of the main issues with this mic, apart from wind interference, is its ability, or that of the recorder, to pick up radio wave interference which you may hear as pops and clicks in the soundtrack. The camera's built-in mic doesn't have any foam wind protection, but there is the opportunity to plug a mic into it, and clearly that mic could have a foam pop/wind-shield or even, as you suggest, some sort of DIY sponge, and maybe that is something I should consider. I hear wind interference now and then even on outside television news broadcasts, so it's clearly an issue even when using the best of gear. At the moment I should probably restrict myself to recording when wind speeds are less than 7mph.

I used a Meguiars finishing pad. It's what i use to wax my car. I cut a piece out of a used pad and with 2 face tape to hold it in place. The pad is black so it does not stick as bad as Spongebob! I need to make some more testing on this.

Morag's Fairy Glen sits on Dunoon's southern edge, near the Glenmorag Hotel. At the time of my visit to make the video the glen was closed and too dangerous to venture into. Puck's Glen is further out, situated north of Dunoon, off the A815, about a mile or so north of the head of the Holy Loch.

Ah think you’re mixing up fairies with wives, it’s wives that do the cooking and ironing, fairies will realize your wishes for you which is not the same with wives at all. As a wean we would spend our annual summer holiday week away a Dunoon, Rothesay, Millport or Arran, anywhere the old man wasn’t barred. I just remember it raining but no being allowed back in the boarding house until tea time. Went back last summer and was shocked by the decline but I guess that’s cos people like me don’t go there anymore.
