Dunvant Male Choir were proud to be asked to sing Calon Lan with Bryn Terfel at the restored Mynyddbach chapel for an S4C program Gwlad Y Gan which was transmitted on 23 July 2016. Thanks to Gorilla TV for their help.
I absolutely hated singing all these welsh songs in school, felt like I was forced too. Now a decade later, its very comforting to hear it, i wish i wasn't so stubborn when i was younger.
Your parents clearly wanted you to be influenced by Welsh language and Welsh song, you clearly have had very good parents indeed...I was stubborn too but I am so grateful now for my parents' gentle guidance......

Melts your soul, I wished I noticed of Welsh in school ❤
. Don't punish yourself , you were a child , it's only natural to push against authority. I'm English and love to soak myself in Welsh music. There is absolutely nothing like a Welsh male voice choir. Even the Red Army don't come close
The most beautiful thing I have seen or heard in ages, and on RU-vid maybe ever. Not quite as polished but even more heartfelt than Bryn Terfel's gorgeous album version with full musical backing. I could weep and have, a tad.
Sorry to take so long to reply and thank you for your comments. If you are ever in UK be sure to look us up or check us out on facebook.com/dunvantchoir/
I am also now Australian, but I spent the first 6 years of my life in Swansea. When and if this Coronavirus crisis ends, I may again get to visit the land of my ancestors. I will then do my best to see both the Dunvant and Morriston choirs live.
I miss my welsh family, my grandfather and great aunties, being with them and their love, learning some welsh and singing with them, was a great joy. My mother would also sing in welsh. I love this language.
Me too- my Great Aunt taught me this when I was young, and I grew up in a house with Welsh grandparents and mother (father was a Geordie). Someone was always singing- music hall favourites, folk songs, Ivor Novello's greatest hits, hymns (AND arias!) often in Welsh.
Beautiful. My Mams favorite Welsh song. Love it. R.I.P. my Beautiful little Mammy till we meet again at Jesus feet in a better Land where there ill be no more parting. No more tears of sadness only Joy . XXXXX
Stupenda questa musica soprattutto il canto. La ascolto spesso. Certamente non dirò a nessuno cosa significa perché non capisco niente di ciò che si canta . In ogni modo prende il cuore. Grazie
What is so lovely, is Bryn and the Boys. He is like an 'overgrown' choir boy, don't get me wrong here but look how He looks up to them.Da Bryn di awn Boy Hwyl, Canu Da de!
I don’t know when I hear Welsh music or anything to do with Wales I get very emotional and excited I’ve been to Wales twice before in the past and be one place where I like to live but I live in my homeland Australia and I’m truly blessed by the way my surname is Evans

Alas, there is once again war in Europe :-((( We never seem to learn from past horrors, do we? After each war we say 'never again' but since WWII there have been at least two wars with the attendant atrocities: Bosnia and now Ukraine.
Good and Glorious music is shared with human beings all over the world. Respectfully I played piano for and in a Hispanic Church Congregation knowledge of very little Spanish. How? God. #actionspeaks

Dunvant is where the choir comes from. "Mynyddbach Chapel is situated at the end of a lane that leads west from Llangyfelach Road, between Treboeth and Llangyfelach." In the video we see the gravestone of Daniel James who wrote the words of Calon Lan. www.swansea.gov.uk/article/45921/Mynyddbach-Chapel-Llangyfelach
It has also troubled the Choir, but since the end of Covid restrictions we are pleased to say that we have taken on a number of younger choristers in all our sections. But will still work to welcome even more.
We had this played at my nan and pops funerals. He was a proud Welshman and my nan was French with a Welsh father. Making me well up listening to it now. I'm English, but my dad was also Welsh.
@@mfjdv2020They probably mean that they were born in England because even if both you're parents are Welsh,if you are born in England you're birth has to be registered in England which is why some Welsh parents try so hard to make sure their children are born in Wales.
What wonderful singing.I attended a chapel in England of that same style and this took me back to my childhood of wonderful singing and Sunday School Anniversaries.
Thank you for your kind comments. The Dunvant male choir were lucky enough to have Sir Bryn at our annual patrons concert this year. Such a special event as we were celebrating our 125th anniversary albeit 2 years late.
A paraphrase: Dear Lord, please grant to me a heart that is happy, a heart that is honest , a heart that is pure that i may worthily sing Your songs, all day and all night. in Jesus' Name, Amen. I think a little searching will produce close translations if you like.
I don't ask for a luxurious life, the world's gold or its fine pearls, I ask for a happy heart, an honest heart, a pure heart. A pure heart full of goodness Is fairer than the pretty lily, None but a pure heart can sing, Sing in the day and sing in the night. If I wished for worldly wealth, It would swiftly go to seed; The riches of a virtuous, pure heart Will bear eternal profit. (Chorus) Evening and morning, my wish Rising to heaven on the wing of song For God, for the sake of my Saviour, To give me a pure heart.
