Coach Mac, We used the DUO blocking scheme several years ago. Here's how we made it easier for the OL to remember which LB to combo to. We used the position letters to name the play. The first letter says who is responsible for the PS DE. The second letter is who gets the PS LB. So your PST should not block the PS LB if there is a second letter in the play. PLAYERS Q - QB F (or H) - FB(or HB) E - PS EMO (could be PST or TE) G - BSG T - BST PLAYS Q - basic DUO with Q reading the DE QG - power read (Q reads DE, BSG pulls to PS LB) GT - counter (BSG pulls to kick DE, BST pulls to PS LB) FG - power ET - dart etc... You can even call EQ. The PS EMO (most likely PST) takes the PS DE. Q would be responsible for the PS LB. This is how you get the RPO. Just add the route tag you want.

A star is born. Been doing the same stuff here for years. Much better push up front. But I've recently heard about a different "Duo" play.

His DUO isn't the real DUO play.

We do the same thing and call it zone kick. Even though we double team to the Mike and backside lb too. And we bring our H (what you call your Y) from the other side of the formation on either a hum motion or have him align a few yards closer to the Tackle and he hauls ass over to make the kick block. We throw our deep RPO off that, our Pin and Pull and off our Reach and Replace also called pull take over play (outside zone) when blocking the pull take over we block the all four down linemen and the play side LB. We will read the Mike for give or pull and then read the safety if throwing deep or the backside overhang if throwing a snag, burst, quick, or slant route. Like you we always have a relief screen built in on the backside of the run play to keep us from pounding our head against a concrete wall trying to run vs a seven or eight man box...either a wide/seam combo, a bubble screen, a slip screen or a naked zebra throw. We throw a significant amount of seams, go routes and post routes on our RPO and run the Sugar concept that we borrowed from Nebraska. I guess it doesn't hurt to have the genius of Troy Taylor as a mentor and the convenience of coaching at the high school he won two state championships at and it being twenty minutes from the university he is currently the head coach at. We brought a version of his No Back Offense to Folsom after he snatches up the top three coaches there to take them up to Sac State. The N Back Offense is a hybrid of everything you can think of with West Coast principles, Spread Option principles, Run and Shoot principles, Oregon Up Tempo principles and some Air Raid and A11 thrown in along with things I have adapted from Auburn, Nebraska, your channel and from McKie too. I should package it all up in a box and put it out there for consumption of my fellow coaches. It's just a lot of work for so little return.

Yeah we call it Deuce for the double teams. When I switched from under center flexbone to Gun-Triple about eight years ago, I used Tony Demeo's stuff. He preached that he wanted "Seams and Double Teams"... That play and a few other components remain a staple in my offense. We teach it as though it is a B gap to B gap play where the back is reading whether the front side gap is open or closed. I normally don't get too many kids who try to take it too far backside...

Ed Warinner always says stay on the Double team until you can smell the Lbs breath. The main reason Ohio State could pull off the down field RPOs.

We run an actual dual run play where we have both sets of guards and tackles blocking a different run concept to opposite sides and have the QB read a specific defender to decide if he is giving on a run heading into the boundary or pulling and running an off tackle QB tun to the field.

Thanks for the run down of your Zeer and Duo concept RPO. Have you considered running Wide Zone to the boundary from your TB offset (pistol would be better IMHO) as an alternate running play from the same formation as you have the overhang player presumably to the field? You have the "hat for a hat" to the boundary and it would keep the Will backer honest and delayed shooting any inside gap that might on the front side Duo play. It would also match up will with a boot scheme back to the field side.

Not a Wide Zone fan from offset, going to run it from Pistol

So we have been teaching inside zone by creating as many doubles as possible (thanks to your video "misconceptions with inside zone") and I do not teach "bounce" (only bang and bend) to the RB. I guess we have been teaching "duo" (minus reading the Mike)?

hey coach I have a question, Why, on power does the combo have to go to the BS LB? why can to duo combo stay on the front side?
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 4 года назад
The scheme of power had the combo go backside while the puller takes the frontside ILB. If you used straight double teams to go to play side backer it’s not wrong it’s just a different scheme terminology wise

You need to use plus, point, minus in your rules so your kids know where to take their combos Plus= playside, Point= 1st past playside, Minus= 1st past point
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 5 лет назад
Oline coach uses +1 and -1. Its getting kids to remember which scheme is which is the issue.

Coach Mac, what you call DUO, is not DUO. You are tweaking and putting your spin on a play developed by a guru of football, Coach Jim McNally. Don't call it DUO, if it isn't DUO. Call it something else. Would like to know your coaching credentials. You should know when the tackle blocks down, the DE will squeeze it so he can't be kicked out.
@CoachMac
@CoachMac 5 лет назад
Appreciate your response, I have watched Coach McNally's video on Duo and understand what it is. We also read the 5 and then log him on buck sweep so every other scheme is built around a DE squeezing. You also get DE'S in high school that play upfield. We actually call the play Veer and when I went to 2 college practices this spring and asked them what they were installing they said DUO. Explained it to me the same way we run veer. The video says Veer scheme with RPO's and I explain how Coach Freeze told me they call the play DUO. Sorry that disappoints you but I appreciate you watching.
