Do you know what’s so crazy? I went to one of my local shops just yesterday and 95% of the decks they had I knew were counterfeit. I can tell a counterfeit deck because I have been in live streams where people from other countries are selling these decks. The boxes are so flimsy and the artwork is pixelated and I know the shop owners know that these are counterfeit and they still sell them anyways. I won’t be going there anymore.

So heartbreaking what’s happening with counterfeit decks 💔 There were so many great dupes in this and love that you saw a problem and are offering a solution 🥰

For the Color Mage, a more close dupe would be the Narrative Alchemy Tarot and the Guilloche Color Oracle, both on MPC!

I would love to hear good dupes for the Spolia Tarot and the Lubanko Tarot. Those are two of my unicorn decks that I regret not snagging when they were in print.

I love all these! Throwing out another dupe for Healing Waves: Tarot of the North Atlantic. It has a similarly special feeling because it's all totally stunning textile art.

That asking price for the Color Mage is absurd 🤣 I really like some of these dupes. I think Dame Darcy's Queen Alice Tarot might be a good dupe for the Alice Tarot too.

Good suggestions. Funny I just sold about 3 or 4 of these OOP decks out of my collection! I do think The Stunning Tarot by Jonasa Jaus, not the original Jonasa Jaus deck, is more comparable to Holy Spectrum, cause they really don't have the same look. Lisa! THANK YOU so much for this awesome video. Super useful, so well researched and right on point! Funny enough in trying to hunt down some of these originals, I had already come across a few of these dupes and will now be buying. It is too bad because I would have been more than happy to buy the originals from the creators, however it is beyond frustrating and actually offputting at this point at how some creators stop production after a limited run rather than making their work more widely accessible for people in the community to enjoy, especially given that the tarot community is obviously growing daily (which is a great thing) so a lot of newbies would never have had the opportunity to support the creators' campaigns on these originals in the first place, and unless re-releases happen, will never be able to own these without paying some ridiculous extortionate price for often used copies. It's actually starting to feel like an intentional play for scarcity = money grab, on the secondary market. NOT COOL but whatever, I'm not paying stupid prices and it all leaves a bad taste, so dupes it is! And the options you've highlighted here are GORGEOUS! So thank you for reading the ramble and MANY THANKS for this video. Please do make more of these videos! You're awesome Lisa. 😸

Liza, here in the uk Even from amazon there are counterfeit decks. The clue is, if there isn't the link to the author, don't buy it. Also through ebay I only get through sellers I know. But my first deck RWS is counterfeit because I didn't know and if came with US games print on It!!!

I enjoy both indie and mass market decks. I think this series is absolutely wonderful! 💖

Hellenic Oracle by Theia(Garden GoddessTarot) Has a fabulous Greek mythology deck plus expansion on make playing cards that is fabulous. Also, if you are a member of her RU-vid group, she has started to create fabulous educational videos on her deck. Highly highly recommend. People( masculine and feminine) and landscape cards. Absolutely love this series. The Healing Waves creators do appear to be working on a new version due to the popularity. But they are still keeping there word that the original Healing Waves will not be reprinted. Good news for those who like that vibe.

Another possible dupe for the Healing Waves is the Magical Nature Tarot. It's also soft watercolor artwork (though more earthy colors than the watery colors of Healing Waves), and the paints were all made with natural materials.

I'm wondering if that last person who bought Majestatic Earth tarot wasn't me because price fits 😅 I was trying to find a dupe for it for so long and not able to. And that deck was always listed at £400 or more at Ebay which was not a reasonable price 😢. So when I saw a new one pop up for less then half that price I snapped that up immediately and can't believe my luck to this day 😂 I calculated that if I bought new one when it come out, added shipping from US and potential customs I would arrive at just slightly cheaper price anyway so I took that as a sign from above and took a splurge. I really appreciate dupe proposal for tarot of Delphi, looks like a very good one. Definitly will have a look ❤

The Art Renewal Tarot might be a good dupe for the Delphi. The art style is a bit different but there's an overlap, and it's a curated, very lovely deck. For the Blood Moon, you'd like to have a look at the Children of Litha; it's a similar vibe at least in my opinion. For the Mesquite, maybe the Gentle Tarot is a bit similar? I own neither but it feels similar. Great video, thank you!

I literally found a copy of the Faeries Oracle at my local flea market in a random booth (the vendor sells Jewelry and housewares) for $2 a few weeks ago. You really cant beat that for the dupe price 😄

I have gotten two fake decks trying to get good deals, one was a not available deck and the other I was able to go and buy a real one. I sent messages to them telling them they are selling fakes and they don’t care.. I also craft and buy a lot of Tim Holtz items, I see them as fakes too. I never buy them even when they are super cheap.. I want to support creators and I wouldn’t want anyone doing that to me.. Golden Rule right! This video really made me think about how to have my cake and eat it……

I got a number of OOP decks as Apps on my phone. For around $5, I get to experience decks I would otherwise never be able to use. (I've also had luck waiting for new editions.)

I think another good dupe for the Blood Moon Tarot would be the Ostara Tarot! It's a **little** bit more twee, but the vibes are really similar.

I'm a huge proponent of having this conversation about OOP deck prices. I tried this once by negging the Hexen 2.0. 🤭 Your method of alternatives makes more sense though. 🤣

Dayuuuum I love my Mesquite and I have such a loving relationship with it, and it's supported me since early in my practice, so I probably won't part with it, but when you said the price it's going for, hillariously my immediate thought before you even said the name was "well, I've got the Homebound, so do I really need both?" 😂 😂 They feel EXTREMELY similar to me. When I got the Homebound I was like "hang on do I have this already?" because of it, so definitely a great choice for folks who don't have the Mesquite! If my financial situation gets really desperate in coming months, honestly I'll probably end up selling.

When you showed the Colour Mage oracle, I immediately thought of two decks that are visually similar, albeit not focused on colour for their meanings: the Sacred Creators and the Inner Star. Sadly I think the Inner Star is itself out of print now, but Sacred Creators is mass market and I think around the $20-25 mark (I only have the UK price to go on) 😀 I only have two decks that I bought secondhand at OOP prices: the Tyldwick Tarot and the Darkness of Light Tarot. I was very careful to check out that they were legit copies, because there are counterfeit versions of both around, but I honestly don't regret shelling out for either as I love them both. Normally, though, I buy indie decks direct from the creator - I'm happy to be able to afford to support their work, and sad that counterfeiting is making it untenable for some.

The Jonasa Jaus Tarot has been an old favorite of mine. (I have the 3rd edition.) Now I have another deck that I might have to put on my wish list. I don't really get it either, but I'm kind of getting the vibes of the other deck, which I don't have, and therefore a bit Jonasa Jaus. Though, Mind's Eye Tarot keeps coming up in my recommended on Amazon, and I don't vibe with the art at all. The Blood Moon Tarot is one of my favorite decks. I think it's only behind the deck I made and the Justice League Tarot (another OOP deck, and the first deck I ever bought). Having the Blood Moon Tarot, it doesn't give me fey vibes at all. It feels more like being in a strange dream. Since Dragon Age hype right now, it's currently making me think of the Fade, and now that I think about it, I should see how it reads alongside the Dragon Age Inquisition Tarot lol. Though I know when the new edition of the Blood Moon Tarot finally comes about, I definitely want to get a second copy since it's always good to have a back-up of a favorite deck.

I hope I can snag a copy of Healing Waves for $151 one day lol! It's sooooo special and I really hope to get it. I love the dupe option but I don't get that same soul 'YES' when I look at it. Thank you for this video! Such a great idea. I appreciate how thoughtful your content is!

Would love a video or live chat about how to recognize fakes, what to do if you unintentionally purchase a fake, and especially how to protect your artwork as a creator. i created a lenormand deck last year but am now unsure what to do with it. How do you know what print services to trust? How exactly is your work stolen? Very frustrating.

HOMEBOUND TAROT WARNING: I bought this deck as a dupe for the Mesquite Tarot, and ended up being incredibly disappointed in the quality. The images were pixelated and very visibly blurry, the colours were stronger in the listing than in real life so that all the colours looked alike, and the cardstock was paper-like; flimsy and warped. The bag it came in wasn't big enough for the cards so that it pressed in on the edges and the drawstring top wouldn't close. I (gently) expressed my concerns to the creator and she said the bag is supposed to be like that, the printing has always been that way and it isn't an error, etc. The image quality was the biggest hurdle for me cause it felt like I was looking at a 3D image without the glasses; everything was fuzzy and the image titles unreadable. It's the most disappointing experience I've had with a deck, and I've purchased hundreds. ): Just thought I'd give a forewarning because it isn't cheap. Believe me, the Mesquite is worth waiting for! I finally got my hands on it and it's in a category of its own, the Homebound didn't even come close. (:

You can get a French edition of Healing Waves. It is not inexpensive but it is legit.

The two OOP decks I am seeking are Jack Hurley’s New Tarot and the uncolored Daughters of the Moon. (And Motherpeace is *not* a dupe for it. Yes, it’s round, but the art is terrible.) I saw a black and white deck that has some of the same vibe as the New Tarot, but I’m darned if I can remember what it was.

Healing Waves- a slightly different version but same artist/author - is coming out in French mass market fairly soon. A lot of french Mass Market decks which started out as expensive indies often make it to US Amazon.

This is SOOOO GOOOOOD. And on the same day I dropped an indie collection vid. 😅 So I own or have owned many of these incredibly cool decks. I am gonna say, no one does it as well as Delphi. It is about the pieces she chose for the cards. The original paintings told stories that match the cards. I am going to buy the Hellenic Oracle for the art, even if it is not a tarot deck. Also, if it's the Greeks you're interested in, Ellen Lorenzi-Prince just released a Greek Goddess Tarot albeit the totally opposite artwork-wise. I thought the beauty of Majestic Earth, was only partly the paintings. She also has amazing Keywords on those cards... in the end I let that one go. Naturscapes has been on my list for a while...😊 I don't know if anything quite matches Healing Waves. Shimmering Veil has the same magical otherworldly feeling. I am a complete rubbish snob about Fantastic Menagerie. I got the original print a LONG time ago, and if you read the book...the stories that go with those cards a wonderful. I actually think the Northern Animal Tarot works as a replacement. IMHO. Dang Daniel...I need to sell my Alice, that's bananas money. No other deck is exactly like it, but my other favorite is the Queen Alice by Dame Darcy... it's so Alicey. My Jonasa Jaus is the ones she marked "last edition" I think it's the fourth. It's still my fave. I like T of the HS as a replacement. Or, anything by Pixel Occult. They have that great comic book style. I had the Neon Moon Tarot - awesome limited color palette. I might get the Black and Red one someday...such a cool creative. I had Blood Moon, it's gorgeous art, I kinda liked the small cards, it readlike dreams to me. I let mine go because I figured it would get a better second round...we'll see what happens. I like what you picked. Believe it or not, I think James Eads is a good fit for this. It's the same type of art you really want to sit and look at...like Tyldwick. The more you give it time, the more comfortable you are in the card. You're doing good work here.

For an Alice in Wonderland tarot. There are two other indy creators who have versions. Queen Alice By Dame Darcy and The Wonder World Tarot by Push Kitty.

Great video! So, I just can't understand people knowingly buying counterfeit decks. I see tarot as a spiritual tool and what kind of reading can you get when you're using a counterfeit deck? If you're reading with stolen artwork its unethical and dishonest. If the price seems too good to be true, then it probably is. Thank you, Lisa for shining a light on this unfortunate situation.
