This is a perfect whole. The vocals, the instrumentation, the production values, the video, the individual components of bass, lead, drums and keyboards flowing together. The fall away at the end of the chorus and the slow ascent in the verses. Remarkable.

My dad passed away at 46 after a long illness, he would listen to this song when I was a kid between listening to other bands like Def Leppard etc. This song would take him far away. He never got to travel much and advised me to travel wherever can. I took his advice and have travelled all over the world. This song definitely takes you away to a far away place.

Your Dad is absolutely correct! I love to travel and almost turning 49yrs old this year I have been to 60 countries and counting as of this time. I was in Sri Lanka last month and as we toured this particular Buddhist site my husband and I both thought of this song! This song has always been an all time favorite of mine from the 80's and faintly remembered the exotic location where this video was filmed. I told him I felt like I was in Duran Duran's video as we walked around admiring this huge carving of Buddha. Later on I scrolled on RU-vid to track this video down that I have not seen in years and long behold I see all the these beautiful scenery... the same ones we saw in Sri Lanka!!!! If you get the chance go visit Sri Lanka and you'll see what I mean.

In my opinion Duran Durans greatest song with a killer bass line and haunting synths. Love this song so much it makes me happy and cry at the same time. Loved the 80’s so much for its uniqueness not like the fabricated shit of today.

True, the hook is what got me.. I'm 51 and was a teenager in the 80s.. Music then wasn't appreciated in the UK as life was a struggle with high employment etc.. Its only now, that 80s music is being appreciated.. 🤷🏿‍♀️

Such is the power of music, truly good songs can evoke strong feelings in the listener. when you look at 80s songs a lot had a similar "feel" even if they sounded nothing alike. Look up Saigon Kick's "Love is on the way" They along with many others who were so called one hit wonders created such iconic sounds that scream pure 80's vibe.

Is there any other song out there like it? It sticks with you, it's unique and a catchy tune. My fav's are Hungry Like the Wolf, Save a Prayer and Lonely In Your Nightmare.

The intro with Synthesiser kicking in,was surreal and sublime what a piece of music composing writing amazing talent the brit pop scean had bands of this quality in abundance , like Spandau ballet, The Cure, Tears for Fears, eyc all starting from the Beatles era ,70s,80s,90s the British were innvators in moving, changing, music held supreme in various genres of music we know today,apart from rap music which you can keep
