Ceramic restorations are durable, but they can still be susceptible to fractures under extreme forces.
One effective method of protection is by using a Durasoft with Anterior Stop appliance. The appliance acts as a shock absorber (protective barrier), reducing the risk of fractures caused by sudden impacts or pressure. This helps safeguard the new ceramic restorations, such as crowns, veneers, and bridges, from potential damage caused by bruxism (teeth grinding), clenching, and other habits that can put excessive stress on your teeth.
It is a custom-fit appliance that is bilaminar in nature (dual lamination) and this is its primary advantage.
- The inner layer is soft, thereby protective towards the delicate porcelain during seating and retrieval. The cushioning effect of the material can reduce the stress on your jaw joints (temporomandibular joints) and alleviate symptoms like jaw pain, headaches, and muscle tension.
- The outer layer is a hard shell to ensure resin bonding and provide strength to the framework.
The anterior stop feature helps prevent contact between the upper and lower back teeth, thereby reducing the risk of chipping or damaging the ceramic restorations. This way you can avoid the need for premature replacements or repairs.
