I was just in Thailand and OMG fruit galore. I tried durian for the first time after hearing so much about it (good and bad). And it was nothing like what I expected! Definitely didn't smell too much like feet, and it tastes better than it smells. :) and I would say rambutan has a similar texture to lychee. I feel like lychee is the sweeter, softer version of rambutan lol. Thailand was amazing and I recommend that everyone goes if they have the chance
I love this girl! We learn to cook Thai dishes, we learn so many things about Thailand, food, culture, names of dishes or fruits. etc. Absolutely loving it! Khob khun mak krub P'Pailin!
OMG!!!!! Durian buffet?!!! For the longest time I disliked durian, the taste and smell especially but it wasn't until my last Thailand trip that I had durian again and OMG I fell in love!!! You are right for those durian haters, they just didn't have the right durian! Now I love anything durian if it's good. I would love to attend this durian buffet! And mangosteen is also my favorite! I was taught if you look at the bottom you can count how many seeds is inside. So the less seeds, the more flesh!
When I tried durian it tasted like carob and I hate carob, but I would guess if your at the source with the amazing Thai people preparing it for you, I could see how you could love it

been to bangkok every year for the past four years and hatyai two to three times yearly but this certainly an eye opener for me. a thai durian buffet would be heavenly for me and wife in bangkok would be a perfect vacation next year. how do we check when the durian / fruit buffet would be next year? anyway we are a big fan of your interesting site and thank you for your recipes.

For awhile there I was traveling a couple of times a year to Vietnam in 2005 and 2006. While there I was introduced to durian. I loved it. I've heard the stories about the awful smell, but I have never experienced that. And when I've mentioned to people about how I liked durian and they look at me like I've lost my mind.
Really enjoy this vid, had no idea they have fruit buffet in Thailand. Thailand has so many delicious fruits so this is a perfect place to try all the fruits in one place! Love to visit there soon!
I tried it when we were in Bangkok expecting something foul. It was really amazing, loved it. Purple is butterfly pea flowers simmered in water. We are going to grow them this summer.
that sala is called snakefruit in english. also there is thin layer of something in every clove of that sala. you can eat it but it tastes different if you remove it
Where is this place and what is it called? I love Durian and I would love to go and try this buffet. Is this buffet opened year round or only certain dates?
that durian ice-cream is not just frozen durian. the yellow part made of durian the green part (spike shell) made of green tea ice cream and the seed part made of almond.
In Vietnamese cuisine we extract the natural color from a leaf to color sticky rice in purple. I think that this leaf has been used to color your mango sticky rice Here is some explanation about this leaf in Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peristrophe_bivalvis
how do u know a durian is ripe or ready to eat and do u have a video that shows how to open a durian? thanks for sharing it was helpful to see new fruits i have never tried before
is it sala or salaki "snake skin" they are good too. my favourite mango > salaki > mangosteen > durian > young coconut but all are better than fruit you can get in canada. if i retire to thailand i will have a couple trees of each and just eat fruit and som tam !
Usually, the season for durian is May to August, esp the peak time is in June and July, the most common type of durian which is called Monthong, now selling 80-100baht/kg in the local market.
Salak is very common here (Malaysia). I would describe it as less-aromatic crunchy jackfruit. and..don't forget to peel the thin film on it's flesh..they are slightly bitter & kinda spoil the taste ')
Oh so that's what mangosteen is like :D I'm going home to the Philippines soon and better find some but they seem to be uncommon in my place for some reason so I haven't had any yet :(
Never tasted Durian in my life!! but always wanted to tasted lol I heard all the stories about the smell and stuff but I just really want to experience it first hand and decide for myself lol hopefully one day hahaha
