Thanks gang, great to see the tent still holding up well after 2yrs and that you are still loving it. Really enjoyed your review. All the best from Oz.
Great review guys! Always great to hear the detail on actual long-term experience, eg stormworthiness, etc, and what a great summary of what’s coming from the evil genius next! We all clearly “love this $#@!ing tent”, and of course really appreciate the callouts for the Durston Gearheads and I Need an X-Mid! groups for those who’ve already figure that out, or hope too sooner than the next available shipment!
Thank you for your kind words! Hopefully we did Dan proud with the review. We are really hoping to snag one of the X-Mid Pro 2p's in July! Thanks for watching!
Great thorough review guys!! Man this IS a solid tent! Love that rhombus shape! Great use of the drone also on that setup! I've been waiting for an opportunity to do a shot like that in a review!! Great work on the editing and shooting!!
I have the 2P. Tried and thoroughly tested and it is a great tent! I love it! I have the Stargazer Kit so that I can pitch the inner tent only if I desire. Great review!!!
It looks very spacious inside. I’m tempted to buy another trekking pole. Thanks for reviewing this product, it’s good to see what other brands are out there. 😊
I have an X-Mid 1p version 2. I like almost everything about it. The only problems I encountered were with the tie backs on the doors. (1) Tue backs for both screen and fly are close together, and BOTH ARE THE SAME COLOR. If one was a different color, maybe I wouldn’t commingle them into each other so easily? (2) The loops and toggles are made for fingers that are thin and dextrous. A larger toggle and loop would be a LOT handier for my 84 year old fingers. Those are the only suggestions that I can contribute. I certainly do like the large vestibules. I’m a canoe camper, and all of my gear was under cover. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Agree about the loops and toggles, all the future X-Mids going forward look to have the magnetic door toggles that they are using on the new Pro DCF version, so that will be awesome! Thanks for watching!
Nice review, love that you gave real experiences. I have been on the fence between this tent, the MSR Hubba Hubba and BA Copper Spur. A couple of friends have this tent and love it. Your video was very helpful. I saw you setup head-to-head and not head-to-toe, do you sleep that way?
Yes, we sleep head to head with this tent. We just got back from a week long trip with the new PRO version. Our first outing with that. We slept head to foot in that one because it is a little narrower and no netting between you and the dyneema when you sit up. It worked out better that way for us. Keep in mind sleeping head to head in the regular 2P works for us because I am 5'9" and my wife is 5'3". Your milage may vary, but most people we know with the regular 2P versions sleep head to head. Thanks for watching! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
Just a question if you happen to see this. Is there much of a draft coming under the fly during high winds? I’m on the fence between this or the solid inner version for a first trekking pole tent. A draft would bug me, but it’d be nice to use the stargazer kit and the solid has a solid roof I believe. Thanks for the review.
We personally have not had any issues with drafts. If the weather is going to be rough, I suggest just pitcing it lower to the ground. Having the ability to have the stargazer kit is a plus with the regular mesh version for sure! We have never had any issues with staying warm in the tent at all, but that really comes down to your sleep system, not any particular tent itself. If you are not a member on FB on Durston Gearheads, I would suggest joining. Dan is always around to help with any tech questions, as well as any other Durston owners. Thanks for watching, and let us know if you have any other questions. :)
Most of the time, yes. Unless we will be setting up on someting like clay or a very black dirt that may stain the fabric. Then we just use a piece of polycro that we carry. The floor is actually very durable. Thanks for watching, and let us know if you have any other questions :)
Absolutely! We have had Durston tents for 2 years now, and we have the X-Mid Pro2 as well now. :) Thanks for watching, if you have any more questions feel free to ask!
@@Backpacksandtrails Not according to the Durston website: ".... It has also been redesigned into a second generation version that has a smaller footprint, less weight, and a tighter pitch while remaining just as spacious." Dan claims it has the same interior space but smaller footprint and you loose 10-15% of the area to store you gear outside the tent. Big difference to me.
@@patrickhutchins6935 You're right that this is not the 2nd generation 2P: the 2nd gen 2P w/ mesh inners won't be in anyone's hands until late October at the earliest. The only batch of X-Mid 2Ps w/ mesh inner and black floor shown in this video was the Spring 2022 edition. But I know Todd & Elise have owned earlier editions of the X-Mid 2P, so this is still a 2 year review of the X-Mid 2P.
@@SrslyJonSweet they changed the title of the video after my comment; when I made my comment the title read: Durston x-mid 2p v2 | details and 2 year review. I paid the extra $20 and have my v2 coming in a month or so but I would prefer the old version with a larger vestibule; Just don't want some body to order something and have to wait till November just to realize item has changed.
and who would prefer a black floor? Good luck searching for ticks and ants? Anybody besides the jerks on Ebay, who mark up the price, selling the old version new?
