This is a great quick connection for your shop dust collection that utilizes the switchable power of the MagJig! Move the vac hose from tool to tool with a quick turn of the switch! You only need the one on the vac side that moves from tool to tool and each tool would have only a steel washer for the MagJig to grab onto.

Thanks for sharing your plans! I had fun cutting and building these connectors. I used 4" dust collector hose connectors cut in half for the internal connection epoxied into the plywood. As for some comments I read it would appear some don't understand the concept. I only used one mag switch, so cost was not that significant. I move one suction hose with the mag switch to the machine (table saw, bandsaw, jointer, plainer, and sanders) I happen to be using at any one time works great for my shop. As for the music, I didn't find it Annoying If I did, I have a volume control on my keyboard so I could mute or turn down the volume, has always worked for me and was included with the keyboard!! :) Keep up the great creations, your time and effort are appreciated by some.

Thank you so much for your comment. I would love to see how they came out! It was one of my first videos, so I didn't know what I was doing 😂. Really appreciate you following along and I hope it works well for you

Nice to see you wearing a good and proper dust mask when sanding. This is a great video that explains in wonderful detail an ingenious way to make a quick connect/quick release system for a dust collection system. Thanks.

I like what you did there. Most oif these I have seen are all CNC, and that is just out of reach for most folks. And I love the mag switch idea, I have not seen that done before on one of these. :) Great work!

Thank you! It's easy to design things to be made sans CNC when you don't have one! 😅 I love the mag switches and would love to buy more. Gotta save some cash first...

Thanks so much for sharing your plans. Not sure that the magnetic catch is available in NZ. Do you think it would work if I had a screw attachment, with a 'bolt' on the collector side, and a nut on each of the 'tool' side plates?

You're welcome! Hope you can use it. Not sure about availability in NZ... As far as bolts and nuts, I'm not sure, but that's the great part about inventing and prototyping! Try it out and I would love to hear about the results!

Wow a awful lot of work to do something that could be done in a few minutes with pvc pipe and a heat gun. I think you could just heat a piece of pvc pipe until it gets flexible and stretch or compress it until it fits the dust collection port on almost any machine.

I agree, but I love making overly complicated solutions to simple problems! Gets the brain juices flowing.

Not a bad idea, but Nathan is correct that it is "not really cost-effective" -- even here in the USA. Just one of these with the mag lock is going to run you in excess of $30. Mag locks are a wonderful product -- but overkill in this instance. You can buy little one inch diameter magnets rated at 60 pounds for a little over $1 that will accomplish the same goal -- although not as fancy -- but certainly just as functional. Your concept is good, but there are more cost effective solutions. Besides, that hinge is cumbersome and would make a few connections in my shop next to impossible.

Daniel, Yes! Absolutely a great idea! A good strong magnet would give you the same end result. I just happened to receive one of these and wanted to try it out on this idea. With a magnet rated at about 60lbs, it would require some force to pull apart and may make changing tools less than pleasurable. The switching of the magnet makes it effortless to disconnect and really clamp down on the connection to make it air-tight.

Nice idea but not really cost-effective lose mag lock devices are crazy money here in the UK between £50-£60 each that’s like $60-$70 for each connection it will cost me nearly $1000 to do my workshop I could do an entire extraction system and still have change for that

Nathan, I didn't realize they were so much more in the UK! Sorry to hear that... However, the idea of this system is that you only need to purchase one, maybe two if you want more than one tool hooked up at once. The MagJig is only used on the collector side of the system and then a much cheaper and cost effective washer is used on the side that is attached to the tool. You can have dozens of the tool side connectors and only one or two MagJig sides that you can quickly move from tool to tool. I hope this clears it up for you and makes it a more attainable setup financially for you and others!
