This is literally nothing more than a parody that completely devalued and countrified an older CLASSIC by Dobie Gray. This is not a mutual appreciation, otherwise they never would have changed the words and just made it a cover of the original. For the record: Mentor Williams (Paul Williams Brother) wrote this song first recorded and released by Mike Berry in 1972. Dobie Gray covered it the next year and made it the iconic melody it is today. I love me some Dobie Gray but let's give credit where credit is due.

That comment isn’t true for everyone. You can always use a great old beat and some lyrics of a great song as with the original and redo it. And if done right like this song was in fact done then it’ll still work. And flatter the original artists and song. And I’m quite sure that this song had to pay to use the beat and etc Royalyties to use parts of original song so they obviously were honored to do so.
