EN - A day in the life of soldiers in a barracks in Haarlem. Reveille in the dormitory, after which the soldiers sleepily dress, wash themselves and brush their teeth while singing. We also see marching soldiers on the streets, the delivery of food to barracks (bread and meat), and preparation of food by chefs (potatoes with onions, stewed meat and rice pudding). The infirmary where doctors examine sick soldiers and bandage a soldier's leg, a look at various medicines (including castor oil and aspirin), and soldiers in the recreation room where they play billiards, checkers and shuffleboard. Finally, a soldier sings a song in dialect, the chorus of which is sung along by the other soldiers.
NL - Een dag uit het leven van militairen in een kazerne in Haarlem. Reveille in de slaapzaal, waarna de soldaten zich slaperig aankleden, zich wassen en hun tanden poetsen terwijl ze zingen. Ook zien we marcherende soldaten op straat, het bezorgen van voedsel in kazernes (brood en vlees), en het bereiden van voedsel door chef-koks (aardappelen met uien, hachee en rijstepap). De ziekenboeg waar doktoren zieke soldaten onderzoeken en het been van een soldaat verbinden, we zien diverse medicijnen (waaronder levertraanolie en aspirine), en soldaten in de recreatieruimte waar ze biljarten, dammen en sjoelen. Tenslotte zingt een soldaat een lied in dialect, waarvan het refrein door de andere soldaten wordt meegezongen.
