I'm wanting to move to NL. I started learning around dec 2021 and my mom is amazed I can listen to you without looking at the screen and understand. My understanding is moving much faster than my ability to put together sentences. Reflexive verbs and pronouns have slowed me up a bit so I'm moving on from duolingo to your courses. So glad I found your channel. You're an awesome teacher.

Dankjewel. I actually prefer to use zich for u because in Spanish we use "se" in the same cases Dutch uses zich. Even for u (usted in Spanish). This makes it a lot easier to remember 😅

Nice, clear video, thanks! Is there or will there be a video about preposition combinations (not sure if there's a technical term for it!)... For example achteraan, achteruit, achterin, etc... Still find it difficult to describe some things/actions because I don't know how to use these correctly. Thanks again

There is an important lesson here about the use of reflexives in Dutch that anger, frustration, annoyance are not automatic, one decides whether to experience those distressful emotions or not. Feeling upset or depressed is optional not mandatory like the face masks for COVID19 prevention.

In Enligh, we could say "We prepared well..." or "We prepared ourselves well...", the setnences would end up sort of synonymous ('ourselves' being understood). Is it similarly optional in Dutch, or is it more mandatory>

If you’re at the sales page of the course, you can see which ones (scroll down) :) and I am making an A2 course in the background now.. and I currently have the Dutch sentence structure course available (is for A1 to B1). In German, we have the reflexive word "sich", or lengthened to "sich selbst" (cf. Du. _zich_ or lengthened _zichzelf_ ), as in "Sie wäscht sich" (Du. _zij wast zich_ ). In English, however, we have never had such a _sich_ or _zich_ . We always use words that end in -self as in "she hurts herself". BUT...in *Early Modern English* or *Literary English* it is possible for us to use objects for reflexive pronouns. This is the most famous example taken _from Christian Child's traditional bedtime prayers_: Now *I* lay *me* down to sleep,

Next time, please make videos about how to make ontbijtkoek, nastar (ananas taartjes), speculaas, etc. in Dutch. They are delicious Dutch food and have been famous in Indonesia. By watching such videos, we can learn several things: Dutch grammar, vocabulary, culture, etc.

Hi Kim, the question of "herinner je je je....?" sounds difficult to say or tongue twisted. Is it common in dutch colloquial to replace with "weet je nog met...?" ? Thanks

For me as a native Dutch speaker "herinneren" is also a bit of a tongue twister. But I don't substitute it with "weet je nog..". I just have to put a little extra effort to pronounce it correctly or say the word a bit slower than I normally would. Btw the 3 je's in this sentence initially sounded wrong to me. It sounded like one too many. I would probably drop one (hah!). I had to analyse the sentence and compare it to ik/me/mijn to figure out it was correct.

When you use IK you use the root of the verb and that’s without an extra T :)

@Pero Djetlić One solution I thought of might be to simply not bother with subtitles when Kim says whatever is written on the graphic in the videos; it would let you read it without something blocking it. Otherwise the subtitles are a very nice touch.

Ik heb net bij een ander bericht al een uitgebreid antwoord gegeven waarbij ik antwoord geef op de vraag of de benamingen zijn veranderd (en dat is niet zo, maar lees het andere bericht daarvoor). Maar even voor hier: een reflexief werkwoord is een wederkerend werkwoord, zoals "zich vergissen" = "Ik vergis me, hij vergist zich, etc. En een voltooid deelwoord is "gefietst" in bijvoorbeeld: "Ik heb gefietst" of "vergist" zoals in: "Ik heb me vergist". ik heb een vraag om hier te zeggen , moeten we al die tijden de bezittelijk voornaamwoord gebruiken of niet ,? , bijvoorbeeld ik zal met die woord beginnen => schaam => dus als ik hierbij iets vertellen netals :ik schaamde . is dat klopt of niet ? of moeten we zeggen ik schaamde me . omdat we in het engels zeggen i am ashamed. en wat is het verschil tussen zich en zichzelf ?

Je zegt hier "ik schaamde me" omdat het reflexief is. En het verschil tussen "zich" en "zichzelf" is een leuk onderwerp voor een andere video, dus ik zet hem op mijn lijstje!
