The Netherlands has always been known as a business-friendly country. But the country looks set to become a lot less hospitable following the result of November’s elections, in which the far right won the most votes. The four parties seeking to form a government have vowed to limit immigration, hitting both high-tech workers and students. Companies have started to voice their concern and some are even threatening to leave the country. FRANCE 24's Alix Le Bourdon and Fernande van Tets report from Eindhoven, one of Europe's biggest tech hubs.

As an immigrant myself in Europe I can understand the concerns of Europeans. Far right is more bothered about the illegals who entered Netherlands or the ones e who arrive here with extreme religious ideologies or who commit crime or the ones who don’t work but contribute baby booming and lives of social benefits. The immigrants also need to make some effort to integrate and contribute to the country
@Fireinthesky67
@Fireinthesky67 25 дней назад
Not at all actually. In France for instance, the far-right promotes zero immigration. That would mean in principle not even being able to marry a foreigner. They clearly stated they don't want students from abroad. It's not just about asymul-seekers, illegal aliens, people making troubles or muslims.
@ecs1e
@ecs1e 23 дня назад
The point is no matter how much you try to integrate, no matter how rich or successful you get, you will always be looked down on and viewed as an outsider & 2nd class citizen by society. That's why a lot of immigrants don't even bother, cuz they know true integration is a myth and it's unachievable.

@ecs1e If that’s the case you move out and go back home. You don’t stay in a country you don’t feel welcome in. Unless the main reason for staying is economical of course. In that case you are just using the country for your own benefit and don’t really have an interest in being part of the culture anyways.
@ecs1e

@@hansmemling2311 How do you participate in a culture that doesn't accept you? Foreigners of different races are often welcomed economically when they can be used by companies or when they pay large sums of tuition fees at universities, but completely unwanted socially, in terms of friendships, marriages, social gatherings. There are businesses making massive profits off them, just cuz you 're not receiving the profits, doesn't mean they're not contributing. Where did you get the idea that everyone in 1 country should adhere to only 1 culture? As once a high skilled migrant, I myself was also quite frustrated with the migration procedures in Europe. They don’t separate migrants there not to make any racism but not separating migrant groups actually creates a worse process for educated migrants that Europe needs. Let me explain; With my wife, we had to go through piles of paperwork, waiting times and stress only to see refugees having the express pass. Which felt unfair. I was making top 1% salary with a brutto 120k, my wife made 90k (100 with bonuses). We had been paying obscenely high taxes from the day we set foot there and couldn’t even get a quick doctor appointment as system was full for over a year. At some point I took my wife to my own country to pay for a private hospital for the long awaited check up… Refugees, which as far as I understood the far right likes to talk a lot about, were not all behaving. Hate what I have to say all you want but whenever someone was having a fight or bothering a lady, or being loud and aggressive, my experience was that it was a refugee. What I didn’t understand is I have to wait months to get a meeting at the foreigners office for visa renewal, only to be treated like a refugee myself by a visibly frustrated visa officer, Because I understand refugees aren’t all cooperative and often lie in their documents which is hard for public workers. Is it so hard to open a high skilled working migrant office separately Europe? I mean you need this, population pyramid says many countries social security systems will collapse or taxes for workers have to go up to an unsustainable point where even the most loyal socialist is gonna wanna migrate to US… At some point I couldn’t take it more and migrated to US myself with H1B visa. I look back and say what a shot show it was. I make much more money and my health insurance is pretty much the same price I was paying in taxes, only a 5 star red carpet experience for all the family.

I agree. Europe needs a balance of two immigration policies. One for productive immigrants who can help pay for the public welfare system and another for the charity cases admitted as refugees. The problem with EU is that if countries (voters) have right wing mindset then they would support exiting EU too. So EU has to be left wing. For EU to sustain, it needs to have a common link language when it comes to administration, Higher education, Judiciary, Jobs, etc. For example in India, the local courts use English and might also be using local language(s), but at national level English is the highest status language be it in Central government, Judiciary, Higher education, Jobs, Banking services, etc. If EU wants to stay relevant then it needs to probably make English as the link language in all member countries and be able to compete with USA (English), China (Standard Mandarin), India (English), etc.

@@TheIndianTechie007 Yes EU is not a country but to compete with big countries, EU's intention is to behave like a country. In that case, link language is necessary. Did EU give higher status to English than Dutch. The answer is NO. Hence my original comment. India has English, USA has English, China has Standard Mandarin. EU does not have such a link language. For Naturalization process (for foreigners to become citizens of a country) it is fine to have any language. India has any one of 22 languages for this. But for Administration, Jobs, Higher education, Banking services, etc there need to be a common link language which is missing in EU unlike other countries.

@@firstpostcommenter8078 Again, EU is not a country. It never intended to be a country. Comparing the whole EU zone with India is absurd, like comparing orange with apple. Secondly, giving English a highest status for EU has nothing to do with competitiveness. In EU level English has always been the link language. But you are allowed to use your own language. Till now EU has done better than India and much more developed without giving English a so called highest status. So, that makes your argument totally non-sense.

It is impossible to have 0 racesm. There's always gonna be people who think their background, heritage makes them superior and therefore, more deserving of the resources in society. Even in this comment section, there's loads of EU people who feel they should automatically get the jobs over foreigners just cuz they're European, and others are not.

@@duncansmith7562 Europeans are not objectively superior in terms of STEM talent the way Africans are in athletics, so that's not even an accurate comparison. Europeans know they're not necessarily better in terms of technical ability, however, they do feel superior in terms of I'm European, we're in Europe, the jobs should go to me first, cuz I'm one of us, and they're not. Their argument is not "I can work harder", cuz they know they won't. The argument is not "I'm smarter", cuz they know they're not, not to say they're dumber, the point is it's not much difference. The argument is I'm one of you, so you should help me first.
@duncansmith7562
@duncansmith7562 21 день назад
@@ecs1e The evidence is against you. Whatever the academic field you choose, Chinese score higher than whites who score higher than Africans. Period. It is the reverse order for athletic ability. Europeans do know they are, as a group, better in terms of technical ability than Africans because, as a group, they are. Europeans believe jobs should go to Europeans in Europe because they are the indigenous people, just as Nigerians believe jobs should go to Nigerians in Nigeria over non indigenous folk. It's not a complicated thing to figure out. I have never heard any individual argue "they can work harder" because they have no basis of comparison. As a group, we can certainly say that Asians work harder than any other group, so, no surprise Asians score best in academics and are the biggest earners. Certainly "I'm one of you, so you should help me first" is a common sentiment the world over. We are still more tribal than we realize, but that tribal affiliation is not unique to whites or Europeans at all.
