Dutchmann '78 Porsche 911 Targa : Drive & detailed overview 

What a beautiful example. To my taste, Dutchmann restorations are the best.

I inherited a 1974 Targa base, silver with black interior and top. 58,550 original documented miles. Sat for over 22 years in a garage. Wasn’t a rust bucket, very solid body with very minor corrosion that was repaired professionally. Had to pull engine and reseal, updated clutch set, updated cam tensioners, replaced all oil and fuel lines, fuel pump, fuel filter and accumulator. WUR needed rebuilt, new injector buckets, O rings and injectors. Full tune up, refinished all engine tins. Removed intake system and replaced all seals and O rings, also ended up replacing air box because old one had a leaking seam. New SSi heat exchangers, new sound mat above engine. New clutch cable, all new calipers, pads and rotors up front. New master cylinder, pedal box bushings, Hand throttle bushings and plastic Clovis that was disintegrated. New fuel tank strainer and O ring, replaced all exterior marker lights and a new Hella dome light that fell apart internally. Did leak down test on engine and passed with flashing colors, all under 7% leak down. Also checked for pulled case studs and none found. Checked cam timing and set as needed, adjusted valves and installed new oil strainer gaskets and valve cover gaskets. New belt too, did I miss anything ? Oh, also replaced main seal on engine, transmission and output axles. Changed all fluids, bled brakes. Installed engine back in car and started and set timing. I’m coming up on 8 months of ownership but car runs like new but only has 150hp with the stock 2.7L but it’s an incredible car. Right now I’m working on interior, pulled both seats and all carpet and mats out. Shampooing with my Bissell, have one popped seam on drivers seat but I’ll put that on the list. Also installed new Bilstein shocks all four corners. Next up will be suspension bushings but I’ll drive her through the spring into fall then do the the next step. All new glass seals, fix seat, and that should be good. I also installed new tires.
