Floor with Nightwish is perfection, it is a gift to the world they came together. Tuomas Holopainen is the mastermind, he is the keyboardist/songwriter/composer/founder, and he is a musical genius. He stated in interviews, "Floor is as versatile a vocalist as one can be." The way he writes according to him, he sees and hears the song in his head like a short film, and from there he creates a demo with other instuments and artists. After he gets the demo as close to his vision as possible, he takes the demo to the band for tweaking and polishing. When he writes the songs, he imagines the singer singing it as well, so the old stuff was written for 2 previous singers, but Floor came along and made them her own. She never tried to copy their voices, she is a true artist and believes in staying true to herself. Tuomas also stated because of Floor's vocal versatility, it frees up his songwriting, because he just knows, Floor will make it work. Nice reaction.
R.I.P Ann Waychoff mother of the Nightwish Army. June 28th, 2020 . Ann was a big Nightwish Fan. And every new person who listened to NW, she went through a little chat. And gave them some info about NW. This was her favorite song. And this song belongs to her.
This song is partly Tuomas biography and partly from a famous poet writer. The live version of ‘Song of Myself’ contains 3 parts. The studio version has another part, 4th “Love” (a discussion between multiple people about the worthy of life) G to E minor refers to the end of that poem. There is also a movie made by him contained this whole Imaginaerum album. With his dying breath, Thomas reconciles with his daughter before he dies. Gem returns to her father's house to play the grand piano. When she notices that a key isn't playing right, she opens the lid and discovers a copper nameplate between the wires, removes it and places it on the repaired snow globe. The nameplate reads "G Em", revealing Gem's name as the G and E minor keys. Thomas mentions throughout the film that the two chords are the key to his memories and that he just wants to hear them again. Tuomas Holopainen is not without reason called “Metal Mozart” by the soldiers of the army. He writes and orchestrated 95% of all Nightwish songs.
Very tight band indeed, and Tuomas really knows how to keep a song interesting, something surprising, unexpected in most songs. I liked your comment about Tuomas leaving room for the vocals in his areangement. He told about his songwriting that when he has a song "ready", he challenges every part again and again - could it be better. And when he can not make it better he introduces his demo to the rest of the band, and he is open for suggestions how to make the songs even better. He takes every instrument, vocals being one of them, into account when he writes songs, but of course the other band members have expertise when it comes to their instruments. Tuomas writes the music for the backing track too, played by musicians from The London Philharmonics, and sung by two choirs, one is a childrens' choir. Pip Williams finalizes, helps with the orchestration. There is a short video from The Angel studios in London telling about the process. This song is inspired by a poem of the same name by the classic American poet, Walt Whitman. Great analysis and commentary my friend. Tuomas does like to write in a style that gives lots of breathing space for the vocals. I think this shows how important he feels the lyrical content and vocal melodies are for great musical composition. The lyric "And there forever remains, That change from G to E minor" is the final line to the ending poem of this song. The 6:30 minute poem (Part IV: Love), is not used for the live performance for obvious reasons. This statement, IMHO is used as a musical metaphor relating to how our lives progress from the key of G major (happy and innocent in our youth), to its relative minor key of E minor (darker and filled with the realities and sorrow that we encounter on our journey of life).
As mates allready said, the text on screen (which Floor seems showing to with her final gesture) is the end of the spoken "love" part of this song, you may easy find this by searching for "Song of myself with Love"... and those results you get often mention Ann Waychoff for it was her most loved song and she was the "Nightwish moma" one of most enthusiastic nightwish fans ever and the one who brought us fans to where we are today, effectivelly starting the whole "NW army"... And her demise on 28th June 2020 was a big loss :( Cudos to Gabriel for taking over the flag since and doing superb job at it...

Once you get more familiar with Nightwish and also Tuomas Holopainen's solo work (+ side project Auri) you'll probably realize that he's a composer instead of a songwriter.
