I actually didn't see the Ingtar reveal coming at first. I thought it would be a situation where he would end up trying to blow it and be unable to. I think it's a great aspect of the world that you can have horrible people and situations that don't necessarily have to be directly connected to the Dark One.
That’s fair, maybe I’m too cynical 😆 Although so far in the story to me it seems that horrible people more likely than not are tied to the shadow in some way. Unless of course there’s just a difference in cultures and beliefs that would happen to make people seem horrible like the Seanchan with their Sul’dam and Damane system. And the differences between cultures Jordan created are definitely a great aspect of the world.
@@EuphoricLabyrinth Yea, as i recall, and its been 30 years since my first reading of it, I don't think I saw the Ingtar thing coming either. They play up the temptation of the horn so much, I never thought he was a dark friend.
Thank! that's fair enough about the stances I guess. Different strokes for different folks as they say, I just prefer having the fight choreography. If I had to use my imagination alone the fights would be looking like how I used to run around with foam swords when I was a kid 😆
Yesssss. Excited to listen to this. Some thoughts: I totally understand your distaste for the way fights are described. It’s very loose and if the names of the moves don’t evoke any visual cues as to what is happening, I can see why this would be frustrating. I love the way the fights are handled . Interestingly, Jordan only does this with the sword fights. The way Matt and Perrin fight with their weapons is described much more plainly. The “Hall of the servants” was the name of the political center of the aeis sedai’s power in the age of legends. Think of it like parliament. The name :Aeis Sedai means : servants of all. Hopefully that clarifies it a bit better. Another great review, I appreciate the effort of re-recording the whole thing!
Thanks, appreciate the feedback! I just finished the Shadow rising yesterday so when moiraine translated Aes Sedai the servant thing clicked for me finally 😆 No idea how I’m gonna fit everything I wanna say about that book into 30ish minute video 🤣
I also don't mind the way the sword fights are done but it is very unique. You have to let your imagination evoke the imagery for you. Like the killing blow, the river undercuts the bank, think about it and you know it's a low slash, like the way a river sweeps away the dirt under the bank in a bend. The swallow takes flight, a vertical upwards slash. So on and so forth.
I knew Ingtar was sus (his desperation and his reaction to the flickers) but I really don't think I guessed the "twist." I remember it FEELING really satisfying when I first read it (... like, 15 years ago >
I've heard criticisms about the sword fights using the stroke names. But I loved it when I first read the series, and I've been re-reading lately and they grabbed me again. The stroke names are evocative and they give a pretty good idea of what's happening. And it's not trite, the way "he slashed then she slashed" or whatever so often is. I'm enjoying your videos, but I had to comment on this aspect, as I consider it one of Jordan's cool hallmarks. Also, a blademaster would think of it just as Jordan describes it.
Great review. For my experience, I wasn't aware of Liandrin being a Dark Friend at all. It was a big twist for me. But yeah, it changes with perspective. Also, I love all Seanchan stuff and the battle at the end. Keep it up, I hope you will continue to review.
Great review! As far as predictability, ask yourself that if some of the characters were so obviously Darkfriends, might there have been others you’ve met who are Darkfriends you don’t see coming….
Already on to video two, as an American I'm fascinated with accents. Irish? And just wait dude, the characters still have SO MUCH growth never stops. I gotta disagree on the stances, I LOVE the stance names and all that. Over the years reading and rereading, I could tell you exactly what motion each of those means in my mind haha
@@Smycoo these books have a LOT of purists lol which made watching the show a little painful (as its clearly not as good as the books, how could it be?) though I loved it generally as an adaptation. Im digging your takes. I can't wait to get your take on some of the upcoming developments.
Just a friendly video critique, it’s ok to put the book down. You talk using your hands, the book waving around and the constant tapping on the book is quite distracting, and kind of makes me dizzy. (But that’s just me, it’s your channel, so you do you). - lol and hmm most people pronounce Brigitte (Bir-gEEta)
I’m honestly surprised you’re the first person to comment on that. I’ve watched back some of my videos and it annoyed the hell outta me 🤣 I’ll probably just hold it up for the intros from now on.
@@Smycoo yea I almost deleted my comment, because I didn’t want it to sound too harsh. I’ve noticed the trend of booktubers holding their books for the duration of their videos. Even my wrist would start hurting lol. I’ll see ya.
