If you've been to the beaches recently, you may have noticed some heavy equipment near the dunes. It is part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District Duval County Shore Protection Project ⛱️ 100% federally funded, this project will restore our beaches and dunes to pre-Hurricane Ian and Nicole levels.
"The bottom line is that beach renourishment protects lives, property, and our economy," said Mayor Donna Deegan. "Building up the resiliency of our coastline, builds the resiliency of our communities. The City of Jacksonville values our partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in ensuring the safety of our citizens."
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers crews started at 10th Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach and will work their way south to the Duval-St. Johns County line. After that is complete, they will come back to 10th Avenue South and head north through Hannah Park before completing the project by August.
