Duvet vs Comforter vs Blanket vs Quilt | What's the Difference? 

Thank you! I'm swedish and have been wondering for quite some time now about the words for this in english. Here in Sweden it seems to be mostly common with duvet and duvet covers. I never new anything else exept a top sheet with a blanket on. But that has always seemed very old fashioned to me. Something people used a long time ago. To put it inside I have always just taken a big breath, put my hands in the two top holes (mostly the duvet covers hav a big hole at the bottom and tvo small holes in the top corners) and just taken the duvet corners, dragging it inside and shake. Then to get it even you have to shake more times from different angles. Some duvets are pretty good at staying put but some, like the ones with down needs to be shaken fluffy every night. At least for my taste. Now I have a wool duvet that stays put well. I think if you sleep in one position all night a comforter with top sheet will be good but if you crawl around, turning, twisting then a duvet is better.

Thank you for the information I'm currently, now as I understand, using a Sheet, a quilt and a blanket. I have the house pretty cold, but I sweat like crazy...but I also hate feeling the fan's breeze pierce through the sheet alone and how light weight it feels. I am a total mess and I need to figure this out and have just 1 or 2 (sheet+something) items.

Once you use a duvet long enough you learn how to put the cover on quickly. I’ll explain; Turn the duvet cover inside out, and put your hands inside it and grasp hold of the corners, then holding the top corners grab your duvet by it’s top two corners and shake the cover onto the duvet. Then lay the duvet onto a flat surface, like your bed, and then pull the rest of the cover onto the duvet and fix the bottom corners in place. Do up the snaps or buttons at the bottom and that’s your duvet cover on your duvet. I understand that it can get frustrating when the corners move out of place, but in Europe our duvets don’t come with buttons at the corners and we don’t pin the corners in place either. If the duvet moves out of place you fix it, and you should be washing your duvet cover once a week along with the rest of your bedding. If you replace all of your other blankets and sheets with a duvet, a duvet cover, pillowcases and bottom sheet take up little space in your washing machine and they dry quickly

Box Spring, mattress, pillow top mattress cover, then mattress protector, bottom sheet, top sheet, blanket, comforter tied to a Duvet sleeve for easy cleaning, topped off with a fancy quilt by grandma, and fancy pillows and doilies on top of the normal pillows on the made bed. Perfection, oh and the wife makes the bed not me.

I’m thinking about layering my sheets with a quilt or two, or a quilt with a blanket instead of comforter or duvet just, bc I hate taking the cover on and off of the duvet/ comforter for washing and trying to put it back on. It’s such a waste of my precious time!

European, so using "European method": duvet cover, no flat sheet. My duvet has wool inside. When you grow up making bed(s) it sounds kind of funny from an adult to have trouble putting the cover on - it's like elaborating how to put batteries in your remote ... ;D One thing, which makes it all much easier is to have the correct dimensions of the cover (like, I got both my duvet and cover from IKEA, so they totally fit, especially when new.) This way you only put the duvet inside the cover properly oriented and match two corners of duvet at the zip to two corners of the cover. You close the zip (or the buttons), grab the corners, lift it up and let the duvet inside the cover fall in its place. Because usually the duvet is longer than your height even with lifted hands it's practical to be on some height - I sometimes do it on the balcony or step on a chair (do that safely). If this is not practical, just shake it few times in the air and let the centrifugal force replace the gravity from above. If the dimensions don't match it gets slightly more complicated: you turn the cover inside out, but keep hold of the two corners at the end. With hands holding the corners of the cover you grip the corners of the duvet, lift your hands and let the cover fall over the duvet - then follow all the above of the first method. This all gets bit more complicated when making a bed that is not single (so the cover / duvet is wider than the span of your hands.), but it usually works quite well. Or you do one half first and gripping the corners follow with the other half. It's all done in a minute. Every time you make your bed you do a flipping motion which helps the duvet inside the cover redistribute to its proper place and at the same time lay on your bed straight. There are probably "pro" methods used in hotels and similar, but this has worked for me decades.

Y is everybody against the duvet although u can change the covers of ur choice and they r the most essential part of achieving a layered soft fluffy bed 🛌

Actually down is not hot at all. The best thing about it is that it keeps you warm when it's cold and keeps you cool when it's hot

what is difference between quilt and comforter? is quilt less warm than comfortable? Do quilt need a cover?

Ma'am when I search Duvet cover in ikea, it shows Quilt Covers,So should i buy it ?
