@@ZackEberly en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface Some DVI-D sources use non-standard extensions to output HDMI signals including audio (e.g. ATI 3000-series and NVIDIA GTX 200-series).[9] Some multimedia displays use a DVI to HDMI adapter to input the HDMI signal with audio. Exact capabilities vary by video card specifications. As it is said, in standard DVI-D do not support audio - HDMI does. They have some compatibilietes, but as you pointed out - they are not same, i.e. supported maximum resolutions. Have a nice day.
@@redminote1440 I still use it today. Used it on many different computers and its never failed. Now there as been some troubleshooting done which is why most people can't get them to work cuz they don't know what to do.
Does DVI-D carry audio? Typically no. It is a video display interface only. However, there are some computer graphics cards and sources that do support output of audio using non-standard extensions to the spec via the DVI-D port and a DVI-to-HDMI adapter or cable. There are also DVI + R/L stereo audio-to-HDMI converters that take in the DVI video plus right and left stereo output from the sound card to combine them into an HDMI signal containing both the video and audio. Usually used to connect an older computer with DVI output video card and sound card audio output to an HDTV with HDMI input. These are powered converters, but relatively inexpensive and readily available.
I'm using a laptop which only has 1 hdmi port and its already used up for 1 monitor. If I want to connect another monitor. I get a blank screen. What I have Plugged in is DVI to HDMI adapter to displayport. Going into the monitor. I get no signal.
hey there ! i wanted to buy an rx 460 rog strix but my display is a little week supporting only vga and dvi ports and i dont use the speakers in the monitor but i use head phones so i wanted to ask if using a dvi cable will not send sound to my headphones ? and if it does not give me headphones sound then do you recommend using an hdmi adapter on the graphics card and hooking up a dvi on the monitor
I have a MacBook Pro Retina 13inch Late 2013, I tried to connect HDMI port from macbook to my monitor (which macbook HDMI to DVID monitor) but somehow it doesnt display anything. Helppppp
@@groeglern what monitor are you using ? i'm currently using rx570 minning version as gpu and it only has dvi-d port. I use cabled version of this dvi-d to hdmi adapter to connect to my current 60Hz monitor. I'm planning to upgrade to Asus VP249qgr and as far as i know it support 1080p 144hz via hdmi 1.4 but will my dvi-d adapter to hdmi bottlenecking the frame rate (Hz) ?
I can get video but no audio when connecting through an HDMI to DVI converter from an xfinity digital cable box to a 65s500 Hitachi rear protection TV. Any help? I've been told that DVI doesn't support sound; video only.
Dvi does not supoort audio. Sound will not go through. This video is just lying to you so you buy one of these adapters via his affiliate link and he makes money off your purchase. Lol.
DVI-D can output audio, i think it all depends on the output source itself. For example, Some GPU with DVI-D might not be a dual link DVI despite having a dual link connector (e.g. rx 570, since thats the one that i am using and it doesnt support dual link dvi)
thank you. google and literally everyone else on the internet does not tell you the answer to such a simple question. they only tell you "hdmi source can connect to dvi output". when you ask the reverse question, you get ""hdmi source can connect to dvi output". which helps me at a fat 0%. finally, i get a solid answer
Thanks a lot buddy, I was having a hard time finding out what HDMI splitter would work for me as I only have one HDMI port on my PC, then I saw someone seeling the DVI-D to HDMI adapter and I wanted to find out if it would work or not. Now, I will get to use two screens by buying a very cheap adapter instead of a splitter that they sell for around 4 times de adapter's price.
So, I have a desktop, with one hdmi out with two monitors. and bought a HDMI splitter and it just mirrored the screens. Seems dumb now. But with this I can extend so it’s a second monitor right? I have the second one hooked up VGA and it just looks like crap. Just wondering if I should get a DVI to hdmi or a VGA to hdmi cuz I want the best quality
bought same converter... macbook air (thunderbolt) > converter to HDMI > HDMI cable > this converter (HDMI to DVI) > monitor first try.. don't show anything... try again with VGA cable to VGA port.. work... back to this DVI converter... IT WORK!!! BUT.. after i unplug... and plug it again... don't show anything again... 😖 bought it for 0,6 usd
I used the exact same adapter to connect my monitor to my xbox. It detected the xbox but it showed a blank screen. I even changed the resolution. And I tried everything! But when I plug it into my laptop or my Xbox 360 it works! I don’t understand why? Please help!
This is late and you may not read this but I’ll ask anyways. We can still select where the sound will play if we have an external speaker for the PC right? Thanks in advance! Great video btw.
My new RTX 2060 has only HDMI, DP, and no DVI-D port. My monitor is Acer GN246nl, which can run 144 hz only by DVI-D. The point is my RTX 2060 doesn't have DVI-D port, so basically my monitor is just not compatible with my new GPU. Will this adapter that you talked about in the video help run 144 hz on my monitor? Thanks
Works for me, I put the adapter into dvi d slot on Nvidia gtx 1050 and then connected it with an hdmi cable to my TV and both video and audio work. Great video!
weird I bought this For my Xbox one cause my monitor has no HDMI port I used the DVI to HDMI put it on the monitor it won't display my Xbox one on the monitor it just says “checking DVI [valid]” then “checking VGA [Invalid]” and it would shut off.
I was hoping you'd turn on the TV so we could see if the regular TV worked with an antenna. The computer screen wasn't bad. But you should show both TV & monitor abilities.
Bro ..I have dvi monitor ,consoles not working,I tried hdmi to dvi ,but laptop, xbox one works fine other consoles like PS3 ,PS4 not working ,help....!
Thanks for the informative video. I have the exact adapter you are using..24 pin with one short pin in the exact same place yours is, and It does nothing. I'm going into a 19 inch monitor, and I've tried it with my computer as well as the fire stick, and I get noting but the no connection error floating around the black screen. The monitor has no speakers, but I don't expect sound as I intend to use Bluetooth for that, Any ideas?
There's what I know. I recently bought a dvi-d to vga only to find that it doesnt work. The solution is to buy a active adapter... which cost more but is supposed to work. So I think you need an active dvi-d to hdmi adapter. There are some but they are 30 dollars a bit expense .
Thanks Zack, I had looked into the active type and you're right, a bit expensive. It's not that crucial but If could have done it on the cheap I figured I'd try it. And for future reference it's good to verify some things just don't work. Thanks for getting back with me
Hi, a very well sequenced video, and you have great sense of humor. I'm trying to get my old plasma tv to display video from an HDMI port (computer/laptop). Do you know if it would work? So the TV has a DVI-D port only, no other inputs. It actually uses a media receiver which is broken. Hence, I'm trying to bypass it.
My monitor isn't picking up signal from my DVI to HDMI to my Xbox One S. Got any tips? (BTW my monitor is an old Samsung Syncmaster S23B300 It would be so good if anybody can help!
Should i buy that adapter, I have smart tv that connects with hdmi and i wanna connect it with dvi, cause i heard connecting to dvi port gives more hz refresh rate. Ple tell me what to do cause i am getting more then 100 fps in warzone ( after burner) but my tv showing only 30 to 40 fps and screen i dont know what is that but its make me slow and very hard to see when i move my aim (standing)
So I have a DVI-D single link to HDMI I plugged the DVI-D to my monitor and the HDMI to my Nintendo switch I got the display working but not the audio. Anybody know why? I could really use some help. I don’t know anything about computers or monitors so I don’t know what the specs are.
I have a question, so do you have to have a PC because I’m just using a monitor and I’m turning it on and connecting it to my Xbox but it’s not working
bro i got benq 144 hrtz connected to vgi. 2nd monitor panasonic 60hrtz. connected to hdmi. screen appear.... but when i do thing in main monitor. hdmi not response. TIA.
Help. Why doesn't it work the other way around. Tried it on a graphics card with dvi onto a monitor with hdmi. It worked. But when i put a graphics card with hdmi onto a monitor with dvi it doesn't work? Help is much appreciated!
I'm not able to get display My graphics card is hdmi to my monitor is dvi I bought the hdmi to dvi and tried with my cable This doesn't show anything Except 'Line not connected'
hello i have asus rog strix gtx 1650 and it only has hdmi ports and my Monitor wont turn on after installing the gpu. So do i need the hdmi to dvi d adapter?
Are the DVI-D to HDMI adapters by-directional? I have an NEC photo editing monitor with a DVI-D input. I want to replace my computer with one that has an HDMI output.
The HDMI ports on my monitor don't work anymore. I suspect from a shorted HDMI cable. What do I need to hook up my HDMI cable from my computer to my 34 " TV using the available DVI-D input? Please tell me so I can order that exact adaptor that I need
