Brilliant site…I am going to be a returning rider soon, a hiatus of 41 years, nasty crash thanks to a drunk driver ended it back in 1981…. I now want to get back …I hold a full A licence….but I am under no illusion that things have changed, I plan to re train, re learn and accept I know squidly squat….I will watch your videos with huge interest…I plan to dress rehearse while riding my bicycle…..as best I can….why not….until I get my gear and then lessons, here in Jersey..cheers
This video helped with the lifesaver look as sometimes felt like I was over committed and my arms would turn with the glance and done in practice and found much easier and slow ride was another but found keeping head up and focusing on blue cones and managed to pass MOD 1 with no faults or minors 😊
Passed my mod 1 on the third attempt this morning, and I have to give the majority of the credit to this video series. Some absolutely unmissable pearls of wisdom in there, and all delivered with a smile. Thank you!
I payed an instructor £800 then I got ill missed one training day he said he wanted another £400 because I let him down and that's the rules all this to pass my bike test for a full licence...found your videos thay are fantastic and really helpful more then I can say for my instructor...fingers crossed for my mod 1 in 4 weeks time...
U-Turn has been my nightmare for the Mod 1, failing twice because of a mix of nerves and very bad habits (not looking where I was going + not going fast enough + not turning the handle bars enough because of the fear of putting the foot down). I did it today, finally, thanks for sharing all these tips! :)
@@kylegreenslade9952 I was going too slow, so I would say maybe 3 mph? Maybe less, I wasn't fast enough to sustain the turn, which mixed with target fixation made me put my feet down. Also no revs, so the bike was "ok, so you want me to fall down, do you?" :p
@@alienmotorbike hahaha Yhh too slow will be hard to balance the bike turning best to go 5-7mph I keep practicing everyday so I don’t fail anything and yeah defo look where u want fo at least u passed tho
My uturn and cones didn't improve untill I watched this, on cbt told look at gates, look at showroom ect heads all over place, similar on das look where you want to go the bike will follow, yes it will on wide turn! I think it's what they wanted to get more money from me, i almost gave up, anyway I got A2 which is better than 125cc, thanks for your help
Just want to say thank you so much for taking the time to post these videos I'm a new biker and have my DAS in a couple of weeks and I've lost count of the number of times I've watched each of these. You sir are a legend. Thank you.
Useful video, thank you. I’ve just failed my Mod 1 for the second time, both times due to the U-turn. I’ve been combining my lifesaver with the start of my turn, so really interesting to see your comments about lifesaver, head forward, then commencing the turn while turning your head again. Will give it a shot 👍🏼
@@Lets-rideUk I got through the test made a bad mistake parking the bike after out side just touching another bike killer small mistake failed me booked to retake gutted had to rebook mod 2 🤦♂️
@@Lets-rideUk made one small mistake at the end otherwise he said it’s a pass gutted my bike just slightly touch another parking up at the end sick the test was done have to retake 🙈 booked again
@@Lets-rideUk yes all booked June 22 mod 1 mod 2. June 28 I made really a slight mistake that was blown out of proportion..but it’s a test what can I say..my instructor said mod 1 is harder to pass because of 5 failures allowing.🙈 here goes to the next Truly gutted..as it happened after the gate..still in test I know ….on to the next ..🙏
I struggled with the u-turn the most during my CBT - took me a lot of attempts as I always got spooked and put my foot down half way. Starting my DAS lessons next week so hopefully this will help!
@@IbbyPlays I've got my full licence now. It just came to me with more time on the bike. Most important thing is to remember that you go where you're looking. Good luck 👍
@@IbbyPlays probably about 18hrs total, it was mostly just getting familiar with the fundamentals of bike riding and being confident by spending more time on the bike. I was only ever worried about mod1, never had any doubts at all about passing mod2 as I consider myself a decent car driver and its mostly the same.
Great video. Couple of questions for you when you do your observations prior to moving off I notice you always look right then left then off is this the is this the correct way or can I do look left then right then off ? Also when do you start to make the u turn is it when almost at the end of the white line or can it be done before that I just got a new bike it's big thanks for your help.
Hi Iain. It really doesn't matter which shoulder you start with. It's only by habit I start with the right. You can start the turn whenever you like, as long as you remain within the confines of the white lines. If you're really confident you can do the U-turn straight off the bat, without any forward motion! Not easy for new riders though, which is why we always teach to ride forward a couple of bike lengths to make sure the balance is there. Good luck!

Is looking only over both shoulders enough as when ive attended my CBT a year ago was told shoulder check-mirror-mirror-shoulder check. Can a minor be expected in the U-Turn or it depends from school to school ? Thanks.
Can you get off the bike and push the bike around uturn in mod1? I've failed my mod1 twice, 1st time hazard avoidance too slow 46kph and 2nd fail as I was straightening up after uturn in pouring rain gust of wind blew from left and bike wobbled and put right foot down, got the high speed manoeuvres right though as examiner let me carry on for practice
Learned my lesson not to merge my turn with my life saver on my 125 while merging lanes…. Car in front hit the brakes hard as I was turning my head back to face head on, you can imagine the rest -_-‘
I just completed what your explaining...test in the further to come...my question which my instructor taught me was exactly as you said but i was told to indicate right after my life saver ..sorry to ask but why didnt you...i am from Ireland are rules different...just checked one of your replies said not required so a car coming from behind which wasn't there when you checked is now on top of you cause technically you just pulled out..
Indicate if you want to - it's really no problem either way. There are no DVSA publications showing the use of an indicator for this exercise though and I would argue there is little point indicating after the lifesaver - if it's clear when you do the lifesaver then you can turn therefore who is the indicator for exactly, or if you do the lifesaver and someone is overtaking you at that point then you would abort immediately so the indicator doesn't accomplish anything there either. As I say though, indicate if you like, it's really no problem other then one more thing to worry about. Good luck! 😊👍
I passed my test about 7 years ago but even then I hardly ever could do a proper u turn. In my test I stopped the bike at the half way mark and walked it to an angle I needed whilst doing loads of checks both sides. It was allowed in the test thank god. I still wouldn't attempt a u turn. I just get really scared
Don't rush it. You have plenty of time for each exercise. After the examiner gives the explanation just take a few seconds for a deep breath and visualise what you need to do. Take your time. Good luck!
I found the u turns hard nearly binned the bike 2 times but everything else is perfect got my mod 1 on 11th instructer is gonna have a hour with me before we go in fingers crossed i don't bin it lmao
@@tomdavies6481 failed smashed cone on swearve avoidance guy who i was with did the same so we are rebooked for 25th lmao and if we do pass we got mod 2 together
You can absolutely do it this way, yes. From experience with new riders though, we've found it's best to get the bike stabilised and at a reasonably constant speed before the turn, rather than accelerate and turn all at the same time. Whatever works for you.👍😊
@@Lets-rideUk Thanks for the reply I did my cbt last week and that's how I was taught but after watching your video I was concerned I would fail my mod 1 due to no lifesaver, anyway thanks for clarifying.
Anybody ever tried doing a u turn from a stop? Just put your bike on full lock and accelerate through? I'm going to give it a go at the weekend, I'll let know how I get on. I think you can do this on your mod1, don't see why not.
Yes, perfectly acceptable to do this provided you've carried out the necessary observations beforehand. Quite challenging for a new rider though so we don't teach this method. 👍
Thanks for that. Is it acceptable to stop on the right with proper observations and then do a U turn to the left?. Personally, for some reason I find turning to the left is easier. I know it puts you on the wrong side of the road, but can it be done on your mod1.@@Lets-rideUk
Thanks, just wondered, oh, and I did try the u turn from a stop, Not as easy as it looks. I needed to trail my right leg. Doable though.. Thanks again for all your videos, they really are excellent. @@Lets-rideUk
