Fresh from Drum Day LA, JR Robinson and John Good show you all the latest innovations from DW Drums. Thomas Lang and Tony Royster Jr. really fire it up on the new PurpleCore and Design Series kits. For more info visit www.dwdrums.com
I had the pleasure to meet John while attending a Thomas Lang Drum Clinic, John is so gracious and authentic. His enthusiasm is infectious (no 2020 pun intended).
I love how massive they sound! Mr. Good, I believe rather than say all vertical grain has a fundamentally low pitch, it's ok to say their pitch is now HUGE!
I've bought dozens of DW kits from Dana at Bentley's drum shop in Fresno who I would highly recommend no matter where you live. Dana I've got to be the most knowledgeable drum expert and is one of the nicest people I've ever met. He continually rubs shoulders with rockstars yet he treats even a nobody like me like I was a rockstar. Maybe John Good was having a bad day but I found him to be ungracious and maybe even mean spirited over our situation where he did not know all the facts. Nevertheless I have to honor him for making the best and most innovative drums on the planet. I still play DW. My favorite DW snare was the Craviotto single-ply steam bent 6x14. The VLT shells were the bomb but I'd sure like to try the purple core VLT's Neil Jones
Love the character of carbon fiber! That's an appatizing snare drum, particularly with the other DW appointments which make their snares sound great and player friendly.
thank you Lord for John Good because wow have drums and hardware improved 1000000% since the 1970's...every company got better because they were chasing John Good. I don't even play DW hardware or drums but I can confidently say that the modern era Ludwig Atlas hardware I play got as good as it is because Ludwig was forced to keep up with DW...thank you John Good, and these videos you and Don have been putting out last few months are AWESOME! ...so when is DW going to announce they bought the CAMCO name??? Hopefully soon, that classic drum industry brand name truly belongs with Don & John
So the next live show I attend I’m going try to figure out the drummer’s shell type and grain direction! I believe it’s all marketing strategy. But it works. I love dw!
Honestly you guys should do all your front bass drum heads like you do with your collector series and just make the lugs the difference with the different series you develop.
The Performance Series front bass drum logo should be all White too that's what looks classy is your all white logo. That grey performance kit would look super with all black lugs and rims.
I think you really hit it on the head with those internal lit up acrylic drums. I would patent that shit as fast as I could before other companies copy that because that's the future of acrylic drums is lighting them up with different colors from the inside at dark shows would look cool.
To be fair, that has been DW’s MO the past 20 years or so and it has worked for them. They do make a great product but yes they do exaggerate and go a little too heavy on advertising.
@@justhadrums Some of it is interesting but some of it seems a little gimmicky to me. Also, some of the stuff like VLT or VLX, drum companies have been doing for years, they just didn't advertise it.
Hey John who is the last team to beat the chiefs during the 2020 season? That's right my team the Raiders. Great job in the Super Bowl. You guys look great scoring 9 points. HAHA!!
At about 10:50, John says the Performance kit is Charcoal Metallic? Looks like maybe Gun Metal Gray ? If you go on the DW site, the Charcoal Metallic color shows it almost Black with a Satin finish.....anyone else have any thoughts on this?....would appreciate some feedback, thank you!
Kick and Snare sounded fantastic , but the toms didn't have the DW tone I like to hear. Also the Mahogany Hybrid snare is meh with low tuning. These snares should never be played with low tuning either that or they are over muffled. I don't hear these kits sounding any better than the Performance Series I own. The Vertical plys might be doable ,but do they sound good enough to produce them as Collector Series?
As a musician I don't give a rats ass about football. Love John Good though. Waiting on my design series to arrive. Really excited. Hope I like the piano black. Probably gonna be a pain to keep clean. Hopefully the little wifey will help. Lol
