Another great video Jan! Thank you. Can you share what makes maple leaf a must have? I’ve seen that the fruit is quite big.

Maple leaf. There is more than one named this. Mine came from bass. It’s delicious and has some of the longest fruit of any mulberry other than Pakistani and Himalayan types.

Thanks Jan. I'm taking notes about which varieties are more upright versus weeping. I've got a multigrafted tree with about ten different varieties and probably should have given this more consideration. Some lower branches are going straight up some higher branches going straight out. It's going to be a crazy looking tree with branches going every which way and different leaf types.

I'm concerned about the mulberry right up near your house. You might want to consider taking a cutting or two and getting them started elsewhere because you may eventually need to cut out this one. There are many warnings about the roots of mulberries being invasive and seeking out water sources such as plumbing and septic systems. I had some dwarf everbearing out front in the corner between the driveway and the sidewalk and the leach field. I dug them out after their first year and moved them out back where I don't have to worry about anything like that. Just food for thought...no pun intended.

My Jan's Best are growing great! The rest though :( I ended up with a really bad case of fungus gnats when I wasn't able to take care of things and someone else was watering them. (And watering them, and watering them...) Everything I got from you started to grow well but the rest didn't avoid the biggest gnat bloom. I was really excited about Oscar and Maple Leaf and they looked so good. Is it possible to get cuttings anymore this year? I have been assuming that I just need to wait until next year.

I got one dwarf everbearing for 25 but then saw four for the same price. They all arrived from Florida. I broke one of the 4 opening the package and it never recovered. The only difference was the one that was 25 was a thicker year old cutting with bark. The others were fresh green rooted cuttings and larger. They`re doing better so far than the other one. They arrived in winter with green leaves so I put them under a light in bigger pots until frost danger passed. But then we got a late frost so I covered them with pots and buckets and they were ok. Some have 5 or 6 branches and are over a foot tall now and beginning to grow rapidly after I added organic fertilizer & bone meal in the grass clippings mulch around them.

I don't think it is correct. I have Gerardi in North Texas, and it fruits in the spring. I only plant low chill hours trees, and from my research, Gerardi requires around 400 chill hours if not less.

@@3CandiesInTX well I don’t know what else would make it not want to wake or fruit andI have many friends with it here and they say the same. There are 2 gerardi with the same name one is fast growing and the real one is slow. I’ve tried several and I believe it wants more chill. 100! isn’t enough. 400 maybe but not 100.

I ordered 4 of the Dwarf variety from Florida. Waiting now to see what they do in Louisiana in the first year. You never know what you`ll get online. I plan to use cuttings to plant at least a dozen around here so the birds can have their own trees. I plan to eat them and make wine. I`m also gonna try one inside in winter.

I'm growing the Gerardi in Maine. It is impressive the varied climates that mulberry trees can adapt to.

I wish I could grow it here but it just woke wake up. Yes it is amazing how many will grow here and there. Congratulations on your Gerardi 😊

Yes, I have a few in Vermont! They are VERY late to wake up, as are my American persimmons...like June before you see any signs of life!
