The tips of my dward lettuce are turning brown and when i take the brown stuff off there is new roots. What could this brown stuff be? And how to get rid of? Thank you.
Dwarf variety can grow quite large in aquarium and the biggest I saw was about 5 inches In diameter and bigger in the outdoors. Depending on the light they can stay smaller in size or grow bigger. Despite the name dwarf water lettuce it can grow up to about a foot in size.
I think it’s irrelevant. I have my on for about 10 hours. There were times when I had it on for 12 hours or even as low as 6 hours and it made no difference. Light is more important for your plants so I would adjust according to what flora you have inside your tank. Hope this helps. Thanks!
I have to do the same with my frogbit. Well I used to do that when I first got it, now it grows so fast I just pull out the longest rooted ones and throw them away! In a 10 gallon I have to empty half of the frog bit once a week cause it propagates so quick.
Yes that is another problem, I also remove a lot but usually leave the bigger ones in and throw the smaller plants away. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
Water lettuce does not have oleophobic surface to repel water instead it has tiny hairs which act as the repellent and allows them to float. If the leaves get submerged for a longer time they do become wet and eventually die. In that case you would need to install some kind of barrier to prevent the plant to go near turbulent water. Lighting is also very important. Another way to anchor them is use their roots, instead of cutting them so they stay away from turbulent water. Thanks
Thank you! That plant is called Bucephalandra which comes in many colours and shapes. This one in the middle is called Bucephalandra sp Teras Layer Cake
my water lettuce keeps turning yellow and die...others are melting...i out them in my aquarium...also put led light...but still dying...what did i do wrong
This plant absorbs nutrience very quickly cause it's closer to the light an air. So your ferts or ammonia, nitrates etc, will get used up very fast. So yellowing = nitrogen deficiency.
I would suggest a 3% h2o2 solution for disinfecting to make sure you don’t bring any parasites. Soak it for about 5 minutes and then rinse with clean water
what lights are you using on that aquarium, my water lettuce are yellowing always if i put it inside the indoor aquarium im using a 6watt LED light for my tank
@@cornertankcorner hi there sorry just a quick question I bought some water lettuce called jarrasic watterlettuce it looks just like yours. I though the dwarf watterlettuce was a lot smaller than this in the video like tiny ? Just confused 🤪
@@Samantha-ot9bq Not too familiar with the jurassic water lettuce but from what i could find online is that the leaves are thicker instead of being thin like in the dwarf water lettuce. As for the size the name dwarf is a bit deceiving as they do grow to a very large size. I had them grow to about 20cm in diameter in my tank which means that in a pond they could grow even larger. another interesting fact is that their growth is very dependable on the light and nutrients. In some of my tanks it grows to only about an inch in size, so very small and more flat and yet in some tanks it grows larger. I can't quite put my finger on the exact combination but in some of my tanks they changed their growing style from large to small. Hope this helps!
Corner Tank Corner bro I have a 60hz LED light which isn’t switched on all day but just a few hours, do you think my plants need more hours under the light ??
You need to find out what spectrum of light, color temperature your LED's produce. You need about 4000K to 7000K for your water letuce to grow. Considering they need medium light, your light may just not be enough. let me know what you got.
I don’t know much about lights but if I could get your email I will send you a photo of the light I use any help will be highly appreciated, I have seen my current set of plants look a bit healthier since I have been leaving my light on for around 8 hours daily.
One thing to note is that co2 is only necessary for photosynthesis and that happens through the leaf. Since this is a floating plant co2 has very little or effect on it as it gets its nutrients through the roots and co2 from the air.
