The reason why kev developed a very good friendship with the rock and shaq is because kev has some intimidation problems with normal size people, as we know most relationships are build in either mutual respect or dominant and recessive type of thing relationship, therefore, kev seems he has an intimidation problem with normal size people as he feels of easily being in the recessive position coz of his height, and he feels more ok with the rock and shaq as that feeling of defensiveness doesn't cross of his mind coz these guys intimidates majority of the people and kev never feels alone in that position so he feels ok with it. The "master" thing is common in the US, too, in certain contexts. Those of us who did cotillion or anything similar have heard it in this context. I think Kevin may have been taking it in the way you hear it for an expert at something. Like kung fu master.
