Really though and these old school show standards so lovely they taught morals he said "you set a standard and I couldn't hang" back when society cared for men and women being held to a standard
In my opinion spoiler alert This one and the breakup of Shazza and Freddie were the best scenes in the whole show. I am glad Dwayne stopped the wedding but I think she should have eloped with him after that night because it was so obvious that they both still loved each other and it was a little kinder than leaving Byron in front of everybody! I also loved the final Denise episode and the one with Jesse Jackson.
My favorite line in this episode is when Dwayne says "If we were all that to each other, why didn't our relationship work?" It's him addressing that they took each other for granted at one point or another. I like the ownership in that question.
You know Dwayne was a solid dude, because even tho he loved this woman in this very moment, he didn't disrespect her current relationship by tryin to kiss her or try anything inappropriate. His character was definitely a true ROLE MODEL.
Exactly, these damn housewives of who give a damn shows are the worse🙄. They sure don't make shoes like Living Single, Martin, In Living Color and The Cosby shows, and Roc. They don't have any uplifting black shows.
I always thought this scene was the best acting from Jasmine and Kadeem. It's interesting that Whitley's accent almost disappears during certain lines.
Crystal Lewis Crazy, right? It’s as if Jasmine Guy couldn’t “play” Whitley anymore. It’s almost as if she truly had to just accept that she had to be herself and not a character. Jasmine Guy probably was thinking back to a certain personal experience during this scene and Whitley couldn’t convey that emotion. This scene is beautiful.
Naw. A potential spin-off would’ve ruined the legacy of the overall show in my opinion. This show alone was iconic enough. Viewers probably wouldn’t want to go down too deep into the Whitley and Dewayne rabbit hole anyway I think.
Basically yeah. She ended their engagement because he had cold feet and couldn’t commit to something that big. Here he puts it all out there. He admits he fucked up, acknowledges he’s learned and grown from the mistake he made, and that hurting her was the worst thing he’s ever done. Definitely is a key factor to why Whitley and Dwayne were able to reconcile the flame that Whitley had spent months trying to suppress. Dwayne’s desperation plea at the wedding sealed it in Whitley’s mind that he was the one for her and that he is devoted to her for the long haul
She didn’t move on though lol. She had every right not to take Dwayne back but she really wasn’t any better than him over she used Byron as just a rebound as she couldn’t even say “I do” to him when it mattered yet she immediately dumped him for Dwayne when the latter crashed the wedding. That wedding only went as far as it did because neither Dwayne or Whitley were being honest
I THOUGHT THAT PART OF THIS EPISODE WAS SO ROMANTIC ESPECIALLY WHEN HE GAVE WHITLEY THE FLOWER I WAS LIKE AWWWH!! SO TOUCHING DOES THIS KINDA LOVE EVEN EXIST ANYMORE?
Her face when she sees him at the door, she was both upset and hopeful, him coming there pretty much confirmed that she was marrying the wrong guy and also she felt a little upset that he felt he could do that. I love them so much
One can dream...sidenote I thought Hillman was a real college up until I was 30 and my older sister and little sister laughed at me...girls can be so cruel
They made it seem so real... you believed they really and truly loved each other. I don't think ANY other couple on TV had this chemistry and believability.
Whitley knew she wanted to marry Dwayne, in her heart. That's why people shouldn't go off their emotions because an emotion can cause you to make the wrong decision.
It’s not fun to think about it but a lot of people probably marry a second (or third or fourth...) choice because complications (poor timing, unpreparedness, inexperience) kept them from committing to their top choices. That’s not to say their marriages are unsuccessful or unhappy. Just that they missed out on a good thing because they didn’t know they had it. It’s not that Whitley didn’t realize Dwayne was who she really wanted. She just didn’t believe he was available in the way she needed him to be. Most women don’t wait indefinitely pining for an unavailable man.
@@amasion2882 You forgot the biggest reason that many people do not marry their first choice...FEAR. Real love can be scary for many because that is the love that renders you most vulnerable.
I love how dwayne still addressed whitley as baby even when they were not together 🥰🥰like he always knew she was his no matter who she was with....damn I'm so single😭😂❤️❤️
@@yanananananananaHe didn’t call other women baby like he called Whitley that. He even called her bunny when they weren’t together once like ughhh I love him lol
We are in a new golden era of television. There are so many great shows on now that it almost impossible to keep up. The good shows haven’t gone anywhere. In fact, there are more of them.
That glossy eye ball said it all for me. These two had great chemistry. I know some feelings had to come about on set. You both were superb actors. You made us think is was so real.
♥️Well over 20+ years later and this scene will forever touch my heart now the same way it did back then. Dwayne and Whitley were the perfect example of what it truly takes to fight for love. Growth and transition are imperative. Having someone to bring out the best in you even at your worst. Taking the trials, hurt, and obstacles you encounter with one another as lessons. Loving past the pain and forgiving in the process. This will forever be the best scene in all of sitcom history for those very reasons. I truly hope that this scene will forever be a point of reference for couples who may have lost their way. #RealLoveIsNeverOutdated #FightForLove #LovePastThePain #LoveIsGrowth
THIS WAS THE GREATEST BLACK SHOW EVER ON TELEVISION. THEY ADDRESSED SO MANY TOPICS, RACISM, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, H.I.V, LA RIOTS, ETC. IT LEFT AN EVERLASTING IMPACT ON MY LIFE. THANK YOU, A DIFFERENT WORLD!
I have always wanted a Dewayne to my Whitley. i always felt like these were there heartfelt vows to one another....love this scene and the final scene when he marries her. complete perfection!
right like i tear up every time i rewatch this scene because of the music. it’s the feelings, emotion, and sentiment that make me feel like sobbing, but it’s the music that actually gets me tearing up
I tear up every time I watch this scene...the chemistry is undeniable....I couldn't get enough of these two back in the day or the show period...I really wanted them to be together in real life lol
This is the ultimate example why you shouldn’t be too quick to jump into something with someone freshly out of a relationship, situationship or something of that nature... they’re never done! And you’ll end up a side-whatever 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 lol but I loved Whitley and Dwayne 😍😍😍
2:48 He looks her right in the eyes and says: "You taught me how to love, Whitley".... I would never be able to deliver that line without truly meaning it... That was from the heart. Kadeem explains this scene! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nuHWuHs3wXk.html
omg!!! their eye contact, their words, the slow mo (the way they turn to face each other when they are speaking) and the way that their pupils twinkle in this scene is so fucking mesmerizing! ✨ such a fucking beautiful scene!! and dear lawd, the chemistry. their acting is just astounding! if they were a real life couple, it would have been my Number 1 OTP #ffr!
A real man steps up and fights for the love he wants in his life. A coward disappears and lives with regrets. I'm glad that I don't waste time with cowards, I reject them!!.
the writers and the actors made this show what it was and what it is today. Soooo many memories watching the episodes. Dwayne character developed to be so charming
This is another one of my favorite episode. But when a man loves a woman, he do anything he can win her back .He pour his heart out to her, with out any kind of regret. When a woman loves a man she knows there's only one special person that's hold the key to her heart. She can't denie the feeling in side, true love never die its last til end of time.
It helps on Dwayne’s part that he is very open about his feelings and doesn’t ever have a problem expressing himself. Hell he needed to it he was goin to crash a senator’s wedding
this always make me cry😭 now a days you have guys trying to be so tough and looking up to rappers’ relationships as goals but this? ahh i miss this lol.
Raw and pure emotions!! No social media, real human interaction!! People know how to feel before the internet! Love and connections are a weird thing now! 2022!
This scene is so nostalgic, and gets me every time!! They don't make em like this any more, the whole cast evolved so much, the ups and downs throughout Seadons were so real.
In an interview kadeem said that he wanted them to leave together and get married that way and move on with their lives. He didn't want byron to be left at the altar the way he was. As a matter of fact neither jasmine nor kadeem thought that that was a good idea but debbie Allen pulled rank and said we're doing it that way
I enjoyed, love this show, and now I just realized something of what Dwayne and Whitley just said, they both have learned from each other, an I am looking back to my passed, to realize that I have loved my ex girl friend, I was young, didn’t want to deal with anymore of what she was putting me through, but I still love her, no matter what, but I had to let go, move on, an to let I being free and to come to love me for who I am, thank you for letting me learn and realize that I deserve love, peace and to move on with my life, thank you once again.
I was very young watching this and didn’t understanding what an ‘actor’ was at the time. When this scene played I cried so much because I thought they were a real couple and weren’t going to end up together lol
This is me and my ex. He made me challenge myself but my now bf has helped to refine me. I've been so lucky and grateful for the men in my life. My definition of love is someone that helps you to grow.
I'm so glad for the era I was born in Different World, Cosby Show, Living Single, Moesha, Martin, The Parkers, seeing representation was phenomenal 🙌 👏 👌
This is one of the absolute realest scenes i have ever seen on tv. It touched my heart and continues to touch me. Me and my hubby have that Whitley and Dwayne type of love and i'm so greatful for them both. This is a beautiful conversation and look at look
