Dwight Eisenhower’s encounter with the Holocaust altered how he understood the Second World War and shaped how he led the United States and the Western Alliance during the Cold War. Jason Lantzer's book is the first to blend scholarship on Eisenhower, World War II, and the Holocaust together, constructing a narrative that offers new insights into all three.
Jason and Matt come together in this book talk to discuss the books main thesis of Eisenhower's Holocaust experience shaping him and his actions as a later president of the United States during the Cold War and how Ike became one of the first ad most prominent to vow that such atrocities would never again be allowed to happen.
Prof. Jason Lantzer serves as the Assistant Director of the Butler University Honors Program. An historian by training, his research and writing interests generally center on religion, politics, and law, with some work about Disney thrown in for good measure. The discussant, Prof. Matthew Stanard, is a historian of modern European history at Berry College. The moderator, Rabea Rittgerodt, is senior acquisitions editor for the history department at De Gruyter.
