Definitely check out Guitars and Cadillacs, which is the title track from the album of the same name, both of them very well received. It's this kind of modernized early nineties rockabilly and country. Dwight Yoakam was known as a New Traditionalist in the early 90s, along with Clint Black and Randy Travis and others. He was bringing back old country music values but also incorporating anything from post-punk to pop to whatever he wanted, because underneath it all he just oozed old school traditional country well simultaneously appealing to young people like me at the time, laugh.
Dwight Yoakum had a decent string of hits in the earlier to mid nineties!Try Suspicious Minds, Guitars Cadillacs, A Thousand Miles From Nowhere, Ain't That Lonely Yet, Long White Cadillac! At that point on time country was very popular, with country bars springing up. A lot of the country music at that time had kind of a rock beat!
This song has a rollin' rockin' rhythm that doesn't stop - like an eighteen-wheeler going down hill on-back ice without breaks. Dwight says, "Maybe I'll Be Fast As You," and the Ladies stand up.
I’ve seen him live twice. The first time we had meet and greet passes and he was so nice! It was my birthday and my husband sent him a message ahead of time. So when we got there he said happy birthday and he was a total sweetheart. And his shows are great!
He is a great actor also and does quite a few cool cover tunes! SUSPICIOUS MINDS Elvis), RING OF FIRE (Johnny Cash), I WANT YOU TO WANT ME (Cheap Trick), CRAZY LITTLE THING CALLED LOVE (Queen) and ACT NATURALLY (Ringo Starr) are just a few.
Oh, this is a KILLER request! Your patrons are really killing it!!!! I love Dwight! I actually spent money to buy the album this is from, "This Time"! Excellent album! Three songs from this album (including this one) reached #2 on Billboard"s Hot Country Charts! Huge hit! PS: I'm tickled to learn you are a Texan! ME, TOO, born and raised and living here still! Only got out of Texas to live one time, and that was just to Oklahoma for 5 years!! 🤠 And if I have actually acknowledged your Texan status before, forgive me......I'm an old hippie, OK?🥳🥸😎☮
A lot more from Dwight. My favorite album of his is A LONG WAY HOME. So anything from that album and definitely check out the film SLING BLADE. It's quite astonishing.
Dwight Yoakam is good country singer with lots of songs, but he is also a pretty good actor. He played in the movie Sling Blade with Billy Bob Thornton. It's a good movie.
Dwight was very popular when he was making hit after hit. I really liked quite a few. The lead guitarist is Pete Anderson and he was also his producer. The Heart That You Own is a good cry in your beer song.
Great reaction! Dwight is just . . . he's just catnip for women of a certain age. Just saw in concert last wknd and he sounded PHENOMENAL. Maybe even better than he did when this song came out . . . just gorgeous slides and bends and yodels.
Such a great song\performance! In the 90s we used to joke that if they tied Dwight's legs up , he'd be unable to sing, lol! He's *got* to swivel those legs!
Sexist man in Country music! So many great hits to choose from, but my absolute favorite is a lesser- known song of his "Waterfall"! It's a whimsical song! I listen to it every day! 🤠
I'm sure you notice that 90% of his audience is young ladies ~ His overall presence made a him more of a crush idol then merely a very talented artist ~
big fan of and heavily influenced by elvis dwight is fantastic he truly carved out his own unique style & path in the business which also shows the influence elvis had on him be different be unique find your own style & sound do everything your way always have fun he does a fantastic cover of elvis' suspicious minds oh and he's also an actor like elvis' & hes a fan of elvis' movies not just his music lol love dwight!!
Great guy, great song. Live on stage doing "Fast as You".... @ StageCoach Festival....as the guest of the Brothers Johnson & Keith Urban..one brother hammered, Keith fan-boy-ing all over Dwight...great crowd. Oh, and as a woman I find him....compelling. Very.
Cannot overlook the amazing guitarist Pete Anderson. His playing was always what I liked best about Dwight Yoakum’s music. Sadly they parted ways. Saw them live in ‘95, when they were still a team.
His version of Suspicious Minds (big hit for Elvis) is absolutely killer. I'm sure it's heresy but I think his version is way better than Elvis'. He has a bunch of bangers like Fast As You and is worth a deep dive. I'm not a big country music fan (too much bro-country) but I think Dwight is great
If I remember right, Dwight couldn't get gigs in country joints in California back in the early eighties so he took his show to the punk clubs and the punks said Fk Yeah! First time I ever heard him was on an Alternative radio show in Dallas Tx. Good one today!
Dwight Yoakam needs to teach the new country artist lessons about being original. Originality never goes out of style. Great video by the way. Thank you.
