DWP PIP Assessment: Shocking Truth About Wait Times & Misinformation 

I've been waiting 14 months for a renewal, last week I had my interview/assessment cancelled for the second time. No apology, just a text 45 minutes after the scheduled start time. Best comes was the text at 8am on Christmas day, to say I was still being reviewed. We can't complain or do anything other than suck it up, if the people at DWP experienced 10% of my physical pain for 10 minutes, they would think better about how they treat us

Thanks for the info Rich. I feel so sorry for the people that have to wait months for an assessment. Ive been on PIP for years and at that time it was sorted fairly quickly. For those that need the financial help the wait time is disgusting.

I have just gotten my back. reviewed 3 times, it was only when i got my court date that the next few days after they changed their minds. What makes me angry is what you after go through. Felt like giving up they made me feel like suicide. October 5th last year it was taken off me. I would have preferred to see someone face to face . The person who took my phone call appeal should be accountable for what they do to people's lives just because they give you it back doesn't make it right. If i could would like to take them to court and express to them what they put me through but of course they will get away with it. disgusting and my heart goes out to the the people who are going through the same . OH the other thing is record the phone call if you can as some of the things said i didn't say but of course they don't lie 😮do they?

My case is a reassessment after about 5 years (I think, blame brain fog) given two weeks to return paperwork, which was in April. Only received a text update to say that they still have my paperwork will be progressing as soon as they can, that was the beginning of August. The stress, worry and upset this is causing me goes without saying as I'm sure most people feel the same in this period. Fingers crossed for some good news shortly. 😟

It took mine about three months from when I applied and it was only about a week and a half after my phone call that I was awarded it. The most crucial thing you must do is record the phone call and tell them at the very start of the call that it is being recorded and do not let them talk you out of it by saying they are recording it on their end because those recordings have a habit of mysteriously dissapearing. My assessor was 100% planning to fail me to get the commision and they couldn't help but show how utterly miffed they were that I was recording it as they know they better not lie so freely that way. I first applied years ago when they were still doing the face to face intgerviews and the woman I saw completely fabricated the entire thing and spent the whole time writing stuff down but asked me hardly anything at all and when I tried she kept saying "yes we'll get to that" but we never did. Most of them work for Capita (the same scumbags who do the TV licensing) so they are used to lying to get their £80 for basically messing up someones life who already has a tough life to begin with.

I haven't been to a single PIP assessment where the assessor has read the form I've filled in. I keep at least £3000 in my savings for each new assessment because every single time I've had to contest their decision. Usually the attempt to claim my stroke and epilepsy either have no impact on my mobility or haven't happened. In my last assessment they omitted it from their review entirely, costing my over £2000 and causing me to wait over two years to get my full PIP claim restored. As a result of this I dare not make use of the motability service, and need to buy, insure and maintain my own scooter to get around. In fact now I need two in order to put one in the car, but the other one I need will cost me almost three thousand pounds, including insurance.

DWP hiring people to deal with people who can’t work. Biggest irony ever.

It took mine 5 weeks from sending the review form off 2 get my answer and no assessment, I always save my paperwork and thats what did it for me. If you don't have important information to you need to contact your gp to ask them for help with the paperwork from anyone who was dealt with you medically.

I got a letter informing me that I was due for an assessment along with my form days before Christmas last year with just over a week to get it filled in & sent back. Obviously this means the support I needed was all off work during this time so I canceled my Christmas & my birthday 4 days later to concentrate on the form. I finally heard back last month. They sent a letter saying that the waiting times were that long that they'd extended my claim until 2025 & I'd likely here from them then, but it could be before if they get around to it. So basically I'm still living in limbo where anything could happen at any moment & I can't expect it to be over before 2025. But I should stay alert because it might. This process makes you so ill doesn't it? When they do get around to me, I've still got to go to a medical to be judged for my disability & then receive the usual letter full of lies that need to be refuted before it's all over for a couple of years. It's a huge battle that I'm not up to because of my disability. It all seems a bit much when you're born with an incurable disability that doesn't improve. To keep going through this cycle of hell to prove it every few years. You get just enough time to recover before it happens again & the horrible process can take years. Relying in the DWP to survive comes at the cost of them dehumanizing you & making them your biggest threat to survival. The trauma being a part of the system creates is enormous. You'd think the least they could do is not draw it out to last so long.

I got my PIP at tribunal, took 18 months in total. COVID was the excuse then. My assessor was a bully and spoke to me like I was something they'd just stood in. I need to renew next year and I'm already anxious about it. Don't know what will happen because it was a tribunal ruling... It's not clear. Will totally screw me up if I ccompletely lose it. Definitely recording this time. Peoples lives should not have a bonus attached, its sick tbh. I dont know anybody can do that and live with themselves I do like food. I intend to stay a member, just keep forgetting to pay things lol

I have my renewal completed in February 2024, I called 2 weeks ago and was told my application will take upto 56 weeks, so they have extended my current PIP😡

I sent my review form back 5 months ago and had a txt msg saying they will continue to pay my pip till it gets reviewed. It's a stress to be waiting to hear from them. Couple this with the fact they are migrating esa and housing benefit over to universal credit, I dread the post every single day . None of my conditions will ever improve and the added stress of waiting around dosent help

I remember in ye olde days waiting 18 months for DLA assessments. The DWP seemed to think that was OK as you'd get the money back paid. I remember pointing out the money given is there to be USED for costs and support, it's not supposed to be a savings plan.

I think the whole process would be better if they didn't use external dodgy companies to lie, totally twist what you have said and not read the application. Application and the big pack of evidence should be enough, why do I need a 3 hour call t ask me the same stuff I showed evidence for? RIDICULOUS. P.S.Also should be illegal to give bonuses to reject people.

It's gets worse .I've heard nothing so far from them but dreading the letter coming which I know it well .I waited 6 months for both of my tribunals one in 2012 one in 2017 .😢

My son been waiting since last October, we now at court appeal stage and that been put back till next available date after mid September. He can hardly walk, his health deteriorates every day. I’m 75 and do what I can but I’m at the end of my tether.

That’s extremely confusing, as if a Claimants don’t have enough to worry about without having the hassle of having to deal with misinformation. Had assessment it July they recieved the report on the day which suggest enhanced on both for me, so now it's with a "enhanced review team" because of a "previous disallowed claim" so new claims are never separate they using my old claim as reason to decline my new claim even though I have more evidence and my conditions have worsened. They had 5 weeks to look at it I'm on my 7th week, I've involved my MP and raised complaints, BUT the enhanced review team aren't contactable even by senior managers, they can only be emailed, and after several case managers have emailed on my behalf it seems they just ignore them. Now I'm left in the lurch, had to goto hospital last night because my slipped disc is making me unable to even walk, and these absolute muppets are still not giving me answers. Tw@s

Hi, I’m still waiting for a decision on my reassessment from approx a year ago. I’ve had one phone-call which was last November & 3 text messages along the way. I had to appeal my first decision because they based my current condition on information from over 3 years previous questionnaires. I contacted them to state that my condition had changed dramatically. I did also note I have my letter of appeal to take to tribunal, which I do & I have no qualms about taking this as far as it can go. What DWP are doing to people is despicable & cruel. I have fought for things over the years from this establishment over wrong decisions which in turn causes more issues with my mental health. In my opinion & experience they treat people like brainless idiots. They don’t see a person on an application questionnaire they see a piece of meat to be discarded on a whim.

Just Eat vouchers would be welcoming to most ppl, i have to use just eat 3-4 timesa week due to my disabilites, and it can be quite costly for 2 disabled ppl, im sure if you did them, anyone receiving them, would be most greatful.

Form sent back end of November last year, had extension letter June this year, will atos pip rules apply, when new provider takes over, ( ingeus ) so confused xx

sent my form of on time should have been assessed june 24...have had to pay tax £206 for car. is it possible to get a new certificate of entitlement for car tax while waiting? got a text last week saying they still have the form but will take a while yet

I received a text message from dwp march 27th 2024 to say my review had started. I received the forms. Had to phone & make an appointment with citizens advice to fill the forms in. Received another text from dwp 12th of June 2023. Saying they had received the forms and if they required more information they would contact me or I may need to have a medical assessment with a medical person. No change with your pip payments & no need to contact the DWP unless that is any change in your circumstances. So TBH I'm not too shall ever way

My claim was stopped 3 weeks ago, I waited 9 months for review, got a call and my medical evidence was called a “lovely little letter” the letter was my personal problems written by my local mental health team. I asked for reconsideration and now gotta wait till November they have no idea what they do to people like me playing mind games with mentally ill is so frustrating

I won my appeal but only got the standard rate for care no mobility. It can take 6 weeks for back pay

My PIP is valid until November and I was notified in December 2023. I have received 2 texts both saying the same....your process is being possessed. Will PIP end in November? Or will they continue with payments. Any advice appreciated

Might be better to ask the winner where they want their voucher to be from. Personally, I'd prefer either an Amazon or a Sainsbury voucher.

i have just put in my claim today as got diagnosed with COPD 8 weeks ago but have just put off with claiming as i got told it was such a drawn out process....lets see how long it takes ....

2 X new claims resolved within 8 weeks, nothing serious from a need for priority point of view in Yorkshire

I just got mine approved, and it only took 10 months.

There's no date on mine for review. Do they sometimes leave it if a progressive illness? That is what they should do anyway.

Received this from DWD We still have your PIP form and will be progressing your review as soon as we can. You may still need an assessment with a health professional. Your PIP will continue to be paid until we review your claim. You only need to contact us if your circumstances change.

Been waiting all this year for PIP review, got txt message a couple of weeks ago saying they were looking at my claim, its doesn't say by who, i can barely move about and function and do anything for myself, only help i get is off my disabled son, dare say they will throw me off again, and i will have a fight on my hands again.

I'd be shocked if the title said: 'DWP PIP Finally tells the truth' 🤔 I finally received my tribunal date last week, scheduled for the 10th Sept, only thirteen months waiting in limbo on reduced DLA benefits and denied essential higher rate mobility component. They've picked a north London venue for it (I live in Essex) that's practically impossible for me to drive to and park nearby, thus forcing me to resort to paying for a taxi both ways, because they will conduct their tribunal hearing in my absence. 🤔

I sent my review form back may 2024. Not clued up on the system but at current time receive enhanced for both and my form was badically asking if anything had changed? Not heard anything back yet but the waiting is sending my anxiety through the roof. Any idea how long it takes plz? Im from east midlands, thanks.

I suffer from severe chronic Vertigo which effects my day to day life, I'm filling out the questionnaire for PIP at moment not sure if they will take it seriously.

I'm transferring over to adp next month my review is due in January 25 is there a delay in the review process

My claim was due for renewal in August this year but so far I've heard nothing about the light touch renewal. If it goes on for 16 months and they deny my claim they will try and reclaim over £12,500 and I will tell them I don't have the money to pay them, in reality I have over £16,000 in the bank but I'll just start taking £300 out per day and if they try to say I had over £16,000 in the account on a certain date I'll tell them I have to pay for stuff and repair to my flat. I don't keep receipts so they wouldn't get any copy's of receipts.

Are you deleting my comments? It would be strange if that were the case as truth obviously sometimes is hard for people?

I recently spoke with a young man charging his car; I needed a quick EV charge for my van on the way home. It seems to me that an 18-year-old getting a new car doesn't really teach the value of money. He was able to drive, so in my opinion, he could have been a taxi driver. His PIP claim was for ME. I'm sorry, but I've seen hardworking people who don't claim benefits despite struggling with disabilities and never claiming a penny. As for you, since you're an expert at assessments, I think you should apply for the job.
