Wow! Congratulations! You did go big, therefore you don't need to go home. You can stay in the grass, put your dit's and dah's in the air the we can hear you loud and clear here in Europe 😉 Enjoy! Many greetings Matthias 👋 DL1NDG

Almost 4 minutes of cranking slowly, to then get zero airtime.

DX Engineering ROCKS. That looks like quite a massive 1/4 Waver...just fantastic. Let us know how it works out for you. 73's de Your Friend Uncle Guenter

Awesome that is a lot of antenna. I don’t like that it has to be guyed. I have their 43 ft version very high quality
@tiptopgemdotcom
@tiptopgemdotcom Год назад
It actually does not have to be guyed. The problem is that their wind rating- 93mph or whatever it is- is NO ICE. Well this is Ohio and we have ice. Oh baby do we have ice. I wanted to be extra-safe so I guyed it. It's probably overkill but it gives me peace of mind! Strongly agree on the quality- DX Engineering is great stuff!

Guying in the middle is right. Seen a lot of persons figuring 2 different levels but that doesn't always work out good in high winds. Top section needs to be flexing out of the wind being thinner. Guying near the top sets it up for buckling at the thinner sections during high winds.

Wow, very nice. I use a 68 foot vertical wire hanging down from a very tall tree that I base load for 80 and 160 meters and I have 55 buried ground radials (very little base loading for 80 meters). Not sure what your plans are, but that would also make for a very nice base loaded vertical for 160 meters.

Sorry, this video was as boring as watching paint dry! Why is the antenna so long? 70 feet, 7 inches resonates at 3.3 Mhz.

He's an outbander
@tiptopgemdotcom
@tiptopgemdotcom 2 года назад
That depends on the size of the radial field underneath it, among other factors. This installation is resonant at about 3.580.

I usually gal my verticals, but if you want to guy it, to each his own. Hehe, 73.

Then a 5 mph breeze blew it into oblivion 🤦‍♂️

LOL!! Still up and going strong!! Probably haven't had gusts over 40mph. It's guyed 4 ways which should help. Fingers crossed!!!

@@tiptopgemdotcom I have this antenna at my QTH and it likes to sway in the wind a bit, but 75mph winds haven't hurt it.

Have you done any other multiband tests? How does it behave on the other bands? Did you do swr tests on each band? Would you recommend it as multiband? Do you have a remote tuner?
@tiptopgemdotcom
@tiptopgemdotcom Год назад
I've not tested anymore- I just use it. Yep, I have an Ultimate Transmatch that i found- it came from an old 1970 (??) QST article. On my desk- not remote. Yes, feedline loss. I'm just a casual op!!
@tiptopgemdotcom
@tiptopgemdotcom Год назад
and yes, i see no problems at all if you want to add 3 bands to the 80M.
@ThinKkBIGG
@ThinKkBIGG Год назад
@@tiptopgemdotcom You only do 80m with it and you have other antennas for other bands? In the wind, does it really bend a lot? I see that during the climb that the curvature is extreme but in the wind is it the same thing? If it is installed ready for a fence it may cross to the neighbor on occasion... I wonder to know the clearance with the dividing line with the neighbor...
@tiptopgemdotcom
@tiptopgemdotcom Год назад
@@ThinKkBIGG I use it for 80, 40, 30, and 20. No, in the wind it does not bend like that. I also have it guyed 4 ways. Be nice to your neighbor and it could work! LOL

I am planning on a crank up vertical in my back yard and I will need to get it al least that high. Might you have a list of the hardware that you used to build this? Don't know where to really start. Much thanks.

Flawless on the bands that I have elements for- 80, 40, 30, and 20- plus of course I use the 40 meter element for 15 meters as well. All good!!
