I got the announcement email today. You sure didn't waste any time and I appreciate your quick take!! I was gifted V2 around Christmas shortly before V3 was released. I agree, it seems they are on a yearly schedule. I was annoyed at the timing so I skipped v3. I downloaded the trial, hope to try it tomorrow. Your results are jaw dropping! Do you feel processing time is similar to v3? On a side note, it's awesome that you can skip the ride and photograph the queue.
The XD processing in v3 definitely takes longer than v2--I would say the XD2 in v4 is pretty similar to v3, or a little faster. And v4 creates that before-and-after preview really quickly, as you saw! I also found v3 to be very buggy--quite often when I tried to run images through it, it would hang up, sometimes with a generic error message, but sometimes not and I'd have to kill the task and try again. It always worked eventually, but definitely a pain. I processed almost 100 images with v4 yesterday and never ran into that, which was a relief. The only bug I did run into was occasional crashes to desktop when I went to magnify the preview, but it always worked properly on the second try (and you can skip the preview entirely, of course). Hopefully they'll fix that in an update.
It definitely blew my mind! It admittedly smooths out the textures quite a bit, which isn't unexpected and can maybe be tweaked with the new settings version 4 offers. But the difference is really amazing!
Good video, but as a recent purchaser of PR3 I'm dismayed by the "no upgrades" policy by DxO. I bought PR3 two months ago, and now they want another $80 to upgrade to PR4. I'm movin' on (ON1 is looking pretty good!).
agreed, I do feel like I JUST bought PR3 not too long ago. But PR4 certainly seems like a pretty big improvement, so I might give them one more go an then wait until PR6 or 7. ;)
