1:24 W-Wing (Type D) These starter squares with two notes, 1 and 4, share a chute, but are in different blocks and rows. In the remaining block in the chute, the 1 only appears in squares sharing a row with one of the starter squares. Therefore, 4 can be eliminate from these squares.

You can eliminate the same non-possible candidate using an X-Chain which I think is what you are suggesting. When you have two techniques removing the exact same candidate(s) I call this "technique wrapping." Generally, I would probably look for X-Chains before W-Wings. I went back and looked at the W-Wing examples I have. I think it was just a coincidence that the W-Wing I chose for this tutorial also had a successful X-Chain sequence with the anchor candidate. Good catch however on your part! There was a puzzle once posted on Reddit where four different advanced techniques which all resulted in eventually solving the puzzle: www.reddit.com/r/sudoku/comments/mbuav8/how_do_i_solve_without_bifurcation/gs1r3yf/?context=3 Although they were not all wrapped, I find it fascinating when puzzle solution paths can have branches.

Is W wing the same as WXYZ wing? Thank you

I don't think so. WXYZ wings use bent quads: www.sudokuwiki.org/WXYZ_Wing. WXYZ wings are pretty far down the list of ones I plan to do tutorials on. Once I finish the 10 uniqueness techniques I plan to get back on the chaining techniques like XY-Chain, AICs, and Nice Loops.
