Everyone told me the story (for DL1) was garbage, but I didn't get that. I feel like all the elements of the game pulled me in and I felt like I was truly there. Like the choices I made (the ones that should have been there but felt like they were there anyway because Crane made them) really seemed to impact myself rather than just the character I was playing. The choices in the second game I feel like are just different paths to take so I can get more out of the game. The first game had me feeling like I truly was Crane, he didn't feel like a character to me it actually felt like I was doing those things and that's what made the first game so amazing for me.

We were being really inconsistent with our demands from Techland. We say that DL2 nighttime cant even be classified as horror because of how toned down it is, but then the numbers showed that most of us, including me*, skipped nighttime in DL1 because of how terrifying it was. I don't blame Techland for making a change to a problem they saw. I still prefer DL1 night time though.

But isn't it great to have night time so terrifying, that it effects our gameplay decisions? To look after the time, plan around the sunset, and where the shelters are. Even if you're not going much at night, you have deep emotions and memories, you are immersed in the world, you see a mystery in it. And when you go out at night, it's absolutely unique and memorable. Take this away, people will go out at night as much as day, but will find nothing there. Who cares about the "dying light", if it makes no difference?
@stanislavkimov2779
@stanislavkimov2779 Год назад
@@zay_tiggygaming I don't know who said these things. I didn't, and no one I know did. Some people said something, it was not a consensus, and the devs just mindlessly picked up the wrong feedback. Don't they have their own vision? They had this vision in the 1st game, and in the 2nd they are making these clearly dumb decisions. If they gave the majority DL1 fans what they wanted, there would be no critique of DL2. DL2 looks like a dumbed down AAA, compared to the 1st one. It had so many chances to improve, instead the devs tried to please the wide audience.

Watched a youtube tutorial on how to clear a vollie nest. The video showed the train tunnel having only biters and no vollies at night. At that point, i was nervous to encounter a vollie, So i went to attempt it at night. There were 2 or 3 vollies around the entrance of the tunnel but i managed to sneak in. I killed a biter, camouflaged myself and destroyed 3 spawn points, no sweat. Until i saw a volatile in there. I paused the game and thought about how to avoid it. I camouflaged myself a few seconds earlier so i just tried walking past it but it still saw me. I ran, tried to kill it, but it killed me. Heart rate was high and i was scared to even drive my buggy past a nest. I am not someone to get easily traumatised, but the vollies, they are nightmarish

I remember my friend telling me about this game years ago when it dropped. I started watching YT vids about it a year after it released and have been hooked since. I only got the game in late 2019 I think and my experience with volatiles is basically the same as yours. Most games don't freak me out like that but ayy the night time and the volatiles in this game are something else. Only reason why I can confidently go out into the night now is cause I'm a high level and have high level weapons. If it wasn't for that I would skip the night every chance I get😂

Really good video, especially appreciated the point about the build up and general tension around night time. I don't think being scared of the night is inherently a negative, really frightening when you're caught out at night with no safe zones around. The contrast between feeling powerful during the day and helpless and scared during the night is a great dynamic.

The sewage chase sequence at 20:30, while terrifying by itself, also gives me PTSD from Carnage Doc Ock in Spiderman on the PS1 as the final boss chasing you through the underground tunnel. But you're going back and playing dying light (1) after 7 years of patches... Disconnect your system from the internet and install and play it from an old version of disk, and you'll see that this game took 7 years to get where it got to(which is an amazing game) I remember how meh the game was when it first came out .. to the point for the first 3 years I'd play like 2 hours a year until the giant DLC "the following" came out and added quite a bit, and added quite a bit in the base game with patches at that point... Because if you find a disk from the first run, and make sure it doesn't update (I just disconnected my PS4 from the internet playing version like 1.X you'll realize just how much post launch effort techland put into the game after launch, for free, all these added patches and features, they really turned it into this amazing game after launch by listening to the community, down to even making community events and repeating the ones people asked for/were super popular....so in 7 years see where dying light 2 is, as even 1 year after launch it's a *much* better game with more features, including ones the community asked for(like the legendary system being added in 2 like it was in 1) That said though #1 is almost a perfect game, not a perfect zombie game, but an almost perfect "everyone who has a system that can play it should own it" game Kinda like how the last of us was, if you owned a PS3, or a PS4 you have to own it, much like a version of halo for the 360/one So I feel this review should be preceded with a "this is a video about the final version of dying light 1" or mention how dying light 1 was at start versus what you're doing the review on Idk if dying light 2 will hit the same status as dying light 1 did, or if it'll just get that status with dying light 1 fans, but in 6 more years(since it's a year old) could make #2 as good a sequel as dying light 1 deserves... If anything the amount of free patches and events and just how much time and energy techland put into listening to the community needs to really be emphasized as dying light would not be the game it is, if techland didn't listen to the community and also didn't keep putting out patches for 7 years, as it showed how much the devs themselves loved the game, how much the devs and community loves the game, and how much effort they kept putting in to making it the best game it could be But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong, I guess

I feel like the Be The Zombie mode is a concept that was a few balance changes from being great. All of the Night Hunter mechanics were great, playing against 4 maxed out survivors was ridiculous though

You forgot the amazing intro cutscene, it really establishes a mysterious yet intriguing way to place you in the now dreadful harran.

It took me almost a month to survive first night, I almost had given up playing this game. Now I only go out during nights whenever I start afresh.

I liked the story buy main negative for me were big distances (second map were better because it was safe to use parkour than walking the streets which were the requirement in the original map) between missions which made side-quests a waste of time because of it (they weren't good anyway)

I love dying light. I have it my main original save on my xbox one. But have been addicted to the switch port for 20 bucks or less you get the base game and all the dlc which is tons. Btw what you said is spot on about night.

I bought DL this week and at first the night time scares me alot. But as time progressed and I've gotten used to the parkour aspect of the game, night-time has turned into fun running time for me. Sometimes I deliberately get seen by volatiles just to get that rush of running away from them, it's amazing.

I still can't believe Techland is reworking the parkour system and combat just because of us :DD can't wait for a more grounded parkour and brutal combat experience.

When I finally got to kill Rais I felt so amazed about the entire experience. The graphics were well for its time, and still are. The night is so eerie about how quite it is, and then there’s the one volitile behind you. Amazing game, and forever will be.

My first time playing the Airdrop mission was the day I turned from a boy into a man. I was 14 at the time. I just made it into a building and lost the chase, hid in the building for a little bit until I built up the courage to head to the tower again. Nearly as soon as I left the house, a volatile spotted me. They almost got me, bought me down to 1hp, but I saw the purple lights getting closer. I finally got back to the tower full of adrenaline, knowing that I had just grown up and that I could do anything. For those of you wondering, dying light is my first new gen (at the time) horror game. Techland changed gaming in my eyes forever.
