Here is a more in depth look at the optimization options for Dying Light on the PC. Comments on MSI Afterburner - Riva Tuner Statistics Server - AMD Catalyst Control Panel.
I used an off board video capture device to record - the original Elgato HD device... So these are the FPS numbers you could expect with a similar system configuration.

My 970 sli rig plays at 100 fps average. Shit and im not even overclocking either. This is since updating to patch 1.5.1 and using driver 347.52. I should add that im playing on 3 monitors setup 3240x1920. Poor AMD card users. That sux the performance u guys get.

I have a 4790k and on a single R9 290 with everything maxed, but view distance set to 50% I get between 50 and 70 FPS @ 2560 x 1440 with no stutter. That is with 96hz refresh rate and vsync on. I do get stutter if 60hz refresh rate and vsync on. No stutter with vsync off but then you get tearing if you go over the refresh rate. Best way is to avoid stutter and tearing is to have your Vsync on with refresh rate > FPS. But that can be hard with a 60hz monitor. It may seem counter intuitive but sometimes turning up the graphics setting, to in turn lower your FPS to stay under the refresh rate will give smoother less stuttery experience. Basically stutter is induced when you go over then drop under the refresh rate with vsync on. If you can constantly stay over the refresh rate or constantly stay under it you will get smooth experience, when you float around the refresh rate though and constantly go over and under you are going to get stutter. Anyway I think a single R9 290 is enough to power this game. I am surprised his FPS is so low with a R9 295. When I enable crossfire with a 290X and 290, I get about 100 FPS with view distance at 50%, and 80FPS with view distance at 100%, but crossfire at least 1x1 mode causes flickering on blood effects and on some of the post processing effects and at least for me causes stuttering, but I think that is just because I keep going over the refresh rate. Hopefully we can get a real crossfire profile though with no flicker.

i get more fps on higher settings with a single 290 oc'ed tri-x. Probably your second gpu isn't working at all? from what i heard is that once you push a game in window mode crossfire disables. oh wait you can see the load of the gpu, it's not even combined 100% rofl. you are better off disabling the second 290x core. Also i hate this drm hardware video settings. They shield die out already.

mmmm amazing crossfire but if your cpu are working at 85º when amd says clearly 65º work max temp you have a problem. those many "blinks" and "sec stops" in you screen is because gpu is overheating and automaticaly lowes the perfomance amen of temperatures of your cpu. And if you only can play at 45~fps in general gameplay with crossfire of r9 295.. two things sell the game or sell the both graphic cards..(i know the requirements of this fucking game :P)

i hope you understand this is a single card setup (295x2 is a dual GPU water cooled double wide card) and not a crossfire with 2 separate cards... I agree that cooling is an issue in my setup, but playing other games I have not run into any issues. I'll continue to monitor temps and performance though. I wish I was back in seattle as my box would be a great space heater, here on oahu it's more like a sauna...

Your GPU goes over 65oC and doesn't start throttling? How are you managing to do that?? I've gone through your video and can't understand, my 295X2 can barely chug along through this game at max. Have to severely lower visual settings.
@KeroroTaichou
@KeroroTaichou 9 лет назад
Wayne the only thing i can say is that the setting i changed in the CCC is what is enabling that other wise i'm straight stock. Remember I am using a SFF PC so i expect high temps... I also dont care about the longevity of the card i want to see it at 100% utilization if possible. also the 295x2 only has one fan which am using in a push configuration, so that might also help if you are using a pull config. in the end i cant give you a straight answer on why my card does not show signs of throttling. You should post a video of your gameplay if possible with your settings and an OSD with your FPS. It could also be my proc/ram configs that gives me an extra bump in my performance.

Noticed the utilization of GPU's are often both below 50%. My CPU cores seem to stay in the Lower 60's C, but other than that the utilization is the same across the cores. My setup is very similar. Disappointed with the crossfire performance so far. I think for Cross Platform games I will just initially buy them for my PS4 first, and later down the line after the proper updates I will get the game for PC for the enthusiast side of me.

Yes, sadly I'm not really good at FPSs using the dual shock (or any other controller for that matter). I use a G700 Logitech Mouse with custom key bindings an a Razer Tartarus (formerly know as the Nostromo - which kinda blows due to lack of on-board memory... Story for another time..) and that works for me. Games like, ahem, CoD that are well optimized (or at least provide a 60 FPS v-sync'd experience) I feel right at home, in fact the first FPS I played was Unreal Tournament back in the early 2000's, it's kind of off putting that the developers may develop a game on a certain set of GPUs from AMD or Nvidia and leave one or the other side to deal with trying to optimize for their choice of HW. I need to test out DA:I which has "mantle" support and check its performance. I guess I may also be limited in my choice of form factors since I want my gaming box to be an small form factor PC if I had more space (and budget) I could OC my CPU because I could water cool and add an additional video card because I would have additional PCI slots. But DL is not that bad, but if we could peg those GPUs at 100% I feel that there would be no problem with consistent FPS numbers in the high 80's or 90's with v-sync and all AO and AA enabled. BTW, I really used to be into the PS3 and used the splitfish and the eagle eye to be able to have a mouse keyboard type setup and I really love the Killzone Universe. I know it won't happen but I wish that Killzone:shadow fall (PS4) would come out for the PC.... The first few levels I played were a bunch of fun and I really thought the guns and the graphics were killer but the dualshock made me feel like a newb, ahhh exclusives,,,,, I hate you!

Also there is a counter on those videos it's very small in the top left corner it's the native steam counter

cool I'll recheck - I did not know that Steam featured some monitoring tools, I'll definitely research that! Thanks!

Did you try overclocking your 295x2 to see if it increased the fps, and is it better with the latest AMD Beta drivers?
@chriscole8909

this is horrible i have crossfire 290x and get better performance than you with one card
@KeroroTaichou
@KeroroTaichou 9 лет назад
Chris - I checked out the videos on your channel and they both state that you are using a GTX780. The game play looks very smooth but would you happen to be able to turn on your FPS counter using the geforce experience? Also do you have any videos with your 290x CF setup including the settings you are using? I wish I had a 2560x1440 monitor.

I just got the 290x crossfire 2 days ago haha but I was using the gtx 780
@chriscole8909

But I will post a video with it when I get a chance I'm currently trying to get it working correctly. I do have question why are your cpu temps so high?
@KeroroTaichou
@KeroroTaichou 9 лет назад
Chris cole its most likely because I run the stock CPU heatsink. I also run a 1300W power supply in a very small case (check out this link for an idea of what it looks like with a 295x2 installed - www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2277502/elite-130-side-radiated-cooler.html - my setup is similar but not exactly the same), but I feel that the CPU temps may be a bit off - I use the ASUS AI Suite II to monitor CPU info Those temps are usually in the mid 60 degrees Celsius AI Suite throws a high temp warning at 70 degrees+ which I sometimes get when playing BF4, I usually will quit a game with the AI suite up then quickly get a temp off of the AI suite- It has never reported in the 80's so I think there may be a discrepancy between the Riva and the ASUS monitoring tool which I trust more.

You are talking about the MSI Afterburner/Riva OSD? Make sure to get the latest version as well as set the values you want to see in the OSD settings. What type of GPU are you running?
@Binderkrantzen

I got it to work now, but i only run 15-20 fps so i guess i´m gonna wait for a patch (if is ever going to come one)....

I take it you are an AMD user as well.... I probably should have left my GTX690 in... The machine I am using at the moment only has one slot, other wise I'd be running both the 690 and the 295x2 and play certain games using certain cards..
@Unfixingprawn
@Unfixingprawn 9 лет назад
yes I am an AMD user, I am running an APU sadly, I'm going to get an msi r9 270x soon but i'm still debating.
@KeroroTaichou
@KeroroTaichou 9 лет назад
Logan Last Don't forget ebay - the GTX690 i paid 1000$US for now resells at sub 500$US its great value especially if you are limited on slot space and/or power headroom - you can get it to work with a 500W power supply if you must, and it still scores a 9000+ on 3d mark firestrike with a i7 3770k at stock speeds (see other video) and its graphics score is in the 12000s+ range. This is not bad when you consider that the GTX680 came out as a 500$US card and is half the performance of the 690. Just a thought!

Keroro Taichou Yah but sadly those cards are out of my price range I'm trying to get the most out of 200 bucks
