Lol nah, you actually can fault these guys for taking the money. Hell, entry level contracts pay these guys 3x what most people make in their entire lifetimes over only 3 years lol. And then these guys are signing contracts that they’re not even worthy of yet. This is getting ridiculous what some teams are willing to give unproven players. And frankly, it’s horseshit that there’s not more of a protection. I feel like teams should HAVE to give up whatever pick that player was drafted in for compensation. If they’re gonna go out of their way to basically BUY a team instead of doing their own drafting. So in this case, St Louis should have to give up 2 1st rounders if they want to make the deal go through. Giving up 3rds isn’t enough compensation when a team used 2 1sts to draft them and then basically wasted 3 years developing them. Only for them to go after a bit more money. Honestly, I hope the Oilers win the cup just to spite both players who and Doug Armstrong.

I think you hit the nail on the head. If we get the big 3 under contract for the next 5-8 years on a discount then we are laughing. I'll take a few years of overpaying nurse to sign the guys snd dump nurse when we can. Paying 4.5 for a guy who hasn't played a season in the NHL right now would show weakness to the big guys and gives them no reason to take a discount

Oilers are in win now mode, looking at the St Louis blueline, they are years away from being relevant. Forward core group has skill and speed but let's be honest. Soft group of forwards! Not even close to a playoff contender.

It's a good move for St Louis, but nothing about his pro years suggests he's going to be high end.

Some Edmonton fans convinced themselves he's nothing special but the kid is an excellent skater, has a good reach being 6'4", & took big steps when he got consistent minutes in the AHL instead of sitting in the press box as the 7th d or only getting less than 7 to 10 minutes a game here & there. You had several people like former GM Brian Lawton saying he would never let Broberg go along with several other hockey analysts echoing the sentiments that he's a pretty safe bet to be a top 4. The kid is 23. Defensemen take more time to develop so seeing one play quite well in the Conf Finals & SCF shows some great promise. We're more than happy to give him consistent NHL minutes & see him develop his game.

He’s 22. Most of these guys retire in their 30s and have to use whatever money they made throughout their short career. Never know, he could have a career ending injury and this would be his biggest contract. Some things are just more important than winning.
