You were supposed to win haha we just hoped otherwise. This team isnt built for the playoffs. We have a long way to go, wings fans are more incensed that we shot ourselves in the foot right at the end of the season
The underlying numbers indicate that you deserved to win 😁 I’m pretty pleased that Detroit played well enough so just a little bit more of puck luck could have resulted in at least one point 🙃 I wouldn’t mind the Rangers winning the Stanley Cup btw 😎
I suspect Seider is not 100% healthy at the moment. The line with Larkin, Kane and DeBrincat wasn’t really working if you look at what they created vs what chances the Rangers created when they were playing. They played for almost 14 minutes (5v5) and had just 0.228 xGoals For and 1.288 Against. If you look at Perron-Compher-Raymond on the other hand (who played for almost 12 minutes 5v5) they had much more going for them. 0.765 xGoals For. And only 0.382 xGoals against. I’m perfectly fine with Lalonde trying something else than Kane-Larkin-Cat.
That "if that was Game 15 we'd be happy" quote is interesting If you think about it, the fact that the Wings are still playing games that are acceptable early in the season and not good enough late in the season shows that they haven't improved enough. Teams should get better at systems and playing a certain way over the course of the season and build upon their game from the start of the year. This team has struggled all season to become the team they need to be and honestly has never looked like they've figured it out. If the Wings still look like they did 15 games in when we're 75 games in, something went wrong.
This is exactly right. It's the No. 1 case against Lalonde. This team hasn't built on its early chemistry. In fact, they've lost their way for long stretches. They are not playing the best hockey when they need it most, and that makes me OK if they miss. They're going nowhere in the playoffs if they can't put forth their best effort when it matters. I like Newsy as a person. I'm losing faith that he's the right guy to take us forward.
Somebody needs to bring up the footage of what Lalonde was saying while the Wings were losing 7-9 games prior to getting Larkin back from an injury. None of this is making any sense. It's excuse after excuse after excuse. If players aren't playing well, like several of the Wings deciding to go on vacation on the ice while Lyon was getting killed from pucks flying at him from every direction during those games, the head coach needs to (1) have a POW wow with management, including with the GM ((Stevie Y), to bring up the Griffins' finest players to replace the multi-mil $ rentals who were playing like they never saw a puck. Then, maybe that would've woken them up. But not Derek Lalonde. Almost seems like Lalonde sometimes rewards those who are not playing well with more time on the ice, doesn't it? Seemed like he did that with Petry, giving him more time on the ice when he was playing awful. Again Lalonde didn't do anything to try to stop the 7-9 game slide which resulted in the position the Wings are in now just outside a wildcard bid. Lalonde can't ask for more luck since he still has his job after a horrendous Wings performance during March. If he had coached 7 or so other teams in the NHL who were performing badly this year, he would have already been gone. Whether he gets fired or not by the end of the season, Lalonde should show Stevie Y some gratitude for hanging on to him as a head coach during the slope out of a playoff run.
They left my man Lyon for dead out there during that stretch and then were like hmmm.. idk about that guy... If they wouldve just played a little were comfortably in a spot.
The bottom line the Wings need to get at least 10 points in the last 6 games for any chance to make the playoffs. Philly is struggling, Isles and Pens have picked it up. Washington in neutral.
Need 5 of 6 probably min 4 of 6 but probably 5. Last game too many mistakes at critical times. Won't be a contender till they get a coach that instills a consistent work ethic. Also I would go to Reims Lyon didn't play that well yesterday.
