Use it between stepping stones and pavers to create a beautiful natural look to your pathway. I absolutely love using this ground cover in parkways because it can take foot traffic and creates a low dense mat of foliage. It stays clean and tidy, and is very easily kept within it's intended border.
Dymondia is NOT invasive, so no need to worry about it ending up in your neighbor's yard.
Use Silver Carpet in nearly every design style from traditional, cottage gardens, ranch style, Craftsman style landscapes, Spanish and Southwestern gardens, and even modern or contemporary style landscapes.
Dymondia likes well-drained sandy-loam soils. So make sure to prepare your area well if need be. Make sure all grass and weeds are out of your area prior to planting.
I absolutely recommend an irrigation system weather it be overhead spray or drip tubing. Both can work well if installed properly.
This waterwise plant is the perfect ground cover for folks that need to save water but still want an open 'lawn-like' look.
Hope this video helps..
Happy planting!

I tried Dymondia for years, but it always starts dying in patches come summer. I started planting Carpet of Stars instead and like it much better because of the darker green color and it looks better than Dymondia.

I live in San Jose California were water is in short supply, so I planted Dymondia.The idea was good, but the results were not. You can not order Dymondia seed, it only comes in flats. I planted fist sized clumps about a foot apart and all looked great. The only problem was all the surrounding homes had dry and weed infested lawns due to water restrictions, This caused weeds in my new Dymondia lawn to grow faster then the Dymondia. I have not found a weed killer that will kill the weeds and not the Dymondia. If I could do it over again I would not plant Dymondia.

Weeds are definitely the tricky bit.. especially when plugs are establishing. Use of a good pre-emergent is an absolute necessity. I like Ronstar or Dimension. Preen is ok also and is the most widely available.

@@BudgetPlants Thank you for this. I have the same problem. I am planting an area where Alyssum has been allowed to run wild. Is it okay to use Preen around just planted Dymondia? Thanks for this great video. It's been very helpful.

If you want to have a Dymondia lawn you also better have some money. 25-40 bucks per flat. Also get ready to do some weeding.

I tried Creeping Thyme, but the rabbits ate it. I'm going to look for that Isotoma though.

Is this plant pet friendly? Is it safe for chickens? Will chickens try to destroy it? I would love to plant either this or Dwarf carpet of stars or maybe both and I would love to replace my boring white picket fence with privacy hedges.

In your opinion which ground cover would be better for a slope Dymondia or Rushcia Nana ?
@BudgetPlants

Probably Ruschia. It has a stronger root system than Dymondia.

Would you recommend this one over the dwarf carpet of stars in Northern AZ, zone 8-9?
@BudgetPlants
@BudgetPlants Год назад
Dwarf carpet is definitely hardier than Dymondia. It can take heat and drought better.

How do rid the clover growing in it?
@BudgetPlants

Preen Pre emergent will greatly help reduce weed seeds from germinating. But you would have to hand pull the current weeds to get it back to neutral first.

Which is more heat tolerant Dymondia or Ruschia?
@BudgetPlants
@BudgetPlants Год назад
Definitely Ruschia. Dymondia is great, but doesn’t take the extreme heat like Ruschia.

I use lite loamy soil, tilled in very well with the native soil to create a nice texture for drainage. Nutrient rich and well-drained is key.

I am thinking of using dymondia in between stepping stones with Kurapia where I now have failing dichondra. (Had a gopher, and ever since can’t get the dichondra to fill in) I want an area where my grandkids can play on a soft surface. Will that combo work? Afternoon SW Sun, partially shaded. .

They don’t generally like to set it but will punch holes up through it if it’s in their way.

A couple methods…solarization is a non-chemical method but takes several months. Some folks use herbicide which kills it in a week. It ultimately depends on how eco conscious you want to be.
