Rode a 99 Dyna Superglide for 6 years until I bought a Road King. The Dyna handled better, and definitely had the power. 615 lbs dry was perfect. Power to weight was great in my opinion. Miss my Dyna

Best bike I ever had was a 2002 Dyna Wide Glide. It was carbureted and did that awesome tha thump tha thump tha thump ide 😎. It would idle so slow and always drew a crowd when I fired it up. People don’t get to hear the old Harley idle sound anymore. I sold it 3 years ago and deeply regret it. I wanted to take long rides and I got pretty stiff and sore on it after awhile. But I shoulda just kept it as a last of its kind trophy. I think in the future it won’t be knuckleheads that’s so rare...it will be Harley’s that had a carbed engine at all! Big mistake. Matter of fact I think I’m going to find a 2003 100th anniversary model and store it away. Not a big deal now but give it another 30 years

The Dyna line was dropped as part of a costs saving move. They went to a semi-modular manufacturing process. All new models will use the same motor, mounted in a very similar frame, (certainly with the same motor mount at it's heart) with a lot of interchangeable parts. The sales leader for the last few years of the mixed models was the soft-tail. So now, all bikes for the most part will be variations on the soft-tail. This saves a lot in tooling, training, and manufacturing expenses. Even the options on the motor are modular, basically what size bore do you want in the cylinders? One apparently overlooked advantage for the owners in this move is that maintenance and aftermarket upgrading will be simplified. But in a way, the company sold it's soul with this move, as most of their line will now just be variations of the same model. This may come back to hurt the company in the long run, but time will tell. I remember the fuss back when the EVO motor came out and all the predictions for the end of the company back then. (Yeah, I'm that old, much older than that, too. I can remember when panheads were cut into choppers because there were a lot of cheap ones around. I'm practically ancient :D) I can see the possibility of the line being expanded again in the future if the market allows. They are having some teething pains right now, which is not unusual for a new engine and model of any vehicle. If you do buy a new (2018) Harley, avoid any model with a hydraulic clutch which IIRC is only on the big touring bikes at this point. They are having an issue with oil migration on those, and haven't found a fix yet. There are also reports of oil sumping issues on some M8 motors that have been aftermarket upgraded. In no way am I saying not to buy a Harley if you want one, just to be aware of the issues and know what to watch out for at the dealer.

Just bought my 2nd Dyna, a 2016 Low Rider with 273 miles on it! I already have a 2013 Super Glide Custom and love it so much I immediately wanted another. Dyna is classic HD and I love the big twin shaking in the frame. Then you get it to speed and it smooths out like butter! I used to have a 2003 Fat Boy and didn’t like the “B” motor nearly as much. The Dyna is so much smoother at cruising speeds. Plus, what’s cooler than a Dyna? Also, love this guy in the vids, seems like a good dude and does a great job with the vids.

I figured out how to chop the neck on the boxy frame and put 43.5 degrees and 6" over forks on it (Has 4" of trail) and14" apes. It's engineered very well and looks badass and can still do a U-turn in 18 feet. Still wears it's 26 year old factory paint too in perfect condition.

I think you are right. I loved my Street Bob. It was unique. As soon as I got my 883 (first Harley) I quickly realized everyone and their mothers had one. When I upgraded to the Street Bob (Dyna), I got compliments by everyone. Little old ladies would compliment it and then tell me to be careful because they had a son around my age. Had to get ride of my S.B. and I have to say I am not a fan of the new Softtail Street Bobs. I'll have to ride one and see if the ride is the same, but until then, my heart is set on a Sportster 48 Custom with mini-apes. Good video.

Sean, you mentioned after making the comment about the Harley "B" motor that somebody would offer a correction, so here it is. What you said about the Dyna, and your description of the "B" motor is exactly opposite. The Twin Cam engines which have now been replaced by the Milwaukee 8 had two variants. There was one engine which had a counter balancer and the other engine variant which did not. They were simply referred to Twin Cam and Twin Cam-B engines. In a nutshell the "B" engines where the bikes which had the counter balanced engines. Those engines were reserved for the Softail models. The non-counter balanced engines were reserved for the Dyna and the Touring family and were rubber mounted in the frame. So what you said about the Dyna is true in one sense...you certainly feel more vibration and can visually see the motor rocking in the rubber mounted frame, whereas the counter balanced motor is much smoother....and some might argue more refined as there is less vibration and no need for rubber motor mounts. Because of the "B" motor's counter balancers, they had a lower rpm than the non-B motors. Hope this gives you a better idea between the difference of the two. I agree with what you said in the video, the Dyna models are without a doubt the best riding bikes in the Harley family, next to the Touring models.

Anyone saying HD made a mistake dropping the Dyna line is nuts. Long runs of their lines mean that their new bikes compete against used bikes. They've got to have some bread and butter lines, but cancellation is what makes them desired. You wouldn't be thinking of Dyna right now if you could buy it off a showroom floor. With so many models, HD has a great opportunity to rotate lineups. I think they need to start capitalizing on that to give consumers a sense of urgency. With all the new bikes they have planned, I think you're going to see a lot of limited runs lasting a year or two on legacy models.

Softail twin cam had the B motor, B for balance shafts. Dynas used the A motor, the same one used in the bagger. The A motors are rubber mounted to dampen vibrations, the Softail had a solid mounted engine which made the B or balance motor necessary.

Dyna's are nice but there is a huge used market. So why by new? Plus Harley made huge improvements to its touring line. Street glides can do everything a dyna can do so can a road glide. I have a 2015 road glide . i was torn when i was looking for a bike i love the dyna . i took my time i shopped around and went with the road glide because im 6 foot 8 and it fit the best but was very agile . i rarely cruise when i ride. I like to mob hard and fast i like to corner the road glide and street glide can do everything a dyna does. Even wheelie. I beat my bike and i love it and it loves me back the only flaw i found that was a true factory flaw was the shifter linkage it gave out out me when i was far from home in the mountains. I shifted with my hand manually all the way home i ordered upgraded linkage it works great. I did find multiple bolts that should have had locktite on them no big deal and the chrome on all the exhaust components was very cheesy. I think Harley almost does this on purpose to upsell after market exhaust. When buying your first new bike don't be tempted at the dealer to upgrade things through them. Take your bike home ride it learn it service it yourself . break it in hard do not baby the bike. Order parts online and install them yourself . this helps you learn your bike. Get a second opionion if its a huge project but most bolt on upgrades can be done at home by yourself with basic tools. You will save money and learn your bike. Ive owned many bikes my road glide was my first new bike ever. Ill keep it forever. If i break it ill fix it. If the electronics fail ill upgrade. If your over 6 ft and you ride more than 50 miles on average look at street glides or road glides. You will not regret it. The comfort handling and nimble behavior of those two bikes is easily equal to a dyna.

Kinda true. I remember they discontinued Twinkies and people flipped - even the people that didn't eat them were pissed because they had been around so long. I think Ford is bringing back the Ranger too.

Ive thought the same thing. There’s no way they’re gone forever. The hype is already noticeable since they’ve stopped, people talk about the Low Rider S like it’s already a collectors edition. Hopefully they bring it back in a few years when I’m ready to move up from my sporty.

Dynas we’re cool, but incorporating the models into the Softail line was a smart move much better riding and better style now.

Yes those motors are not balanced but they are rubber mounted like the touring bikes. The softail motors are balanced but rigid mounted to frame.

The Dyna Family of motorcycles was the best design that Harley every built, IMHO. Compact, reasonably priced, an entire world of accessories available from Harley not to mention the Aftermarket. Cannot go wrong with a Dyna. By the way, "A" motor is unbalanced. "B" motor is balanced for the Softtail.

I have one of those that year, same exact color.I bought it repoed in 06 with 3100 on it for 10 grand. But It had every thing on it. Bags, luggage rack, tail light ext kit, engine guard, detachable wind shield. I will never get rid of it.

I helped take apart twincam B bottom end today. It has 2 huge counterbalancers driven by what looks like a 1971 Honda CB350 camchain. The B motor is in the Softails.

No. The Twin Cam "B" engine has a balance shaft and is solidly mounted. The Dyna twin cam engine is rubber mounted. So you have it ass backwards. All reports indicate that the new Softails with the 107 and 114 engines are better in every way. They're even lighter.

Another great video! The "b" motor is the balanced softail motor. But , yes the Dyna's have the unbalanced motor. Just bought a 2017 Fat Bob, the last year of the 103 unbalance Dyna. Thanks again

Even though it's my first bike, I down right love my '06 Low Rider. No Regrets, and tons of fun as a Stage I w/t PC-V. Even though I'm plenty used too it, I test rode a 2016 Street Glide, and totally shocked, it was a tad easier to throw around than my Dyna. Street Glide is my next bike, but I'm not getting rid of my Dyna!

The "B" motor is in the Rigid mounted SOFTAILS ONLY !!! the Dyna has a "A" motor and is Rubber Mounted, and the "B" stands for Balanced, because the Softail motor the "B" has a counter balancer to take away some of the vibration

problem is they don’t have the “mold” the completely changed the softail frame to fit the new milwaukee 8. i think they were having problems fitting that beast of a motor into a dyna frame. hopefully they figure it out and it comes back!
