Many times I receive these preamps after they have been at another shop. Customer complains that they just don't sound right, controls have little effect. Well, it may be due to inadequate post repair testing. Simply hooking them up to an amp may not reveal underlying problems. I always test them first using the test procedure shown in this video. Then, I will hook up an amplifier for the ear test. The oscilloscope will show you the true story. I did my best to keep the test simple. Of course there are more in depth methods, but this quick test will find obvious problems. I am doing this type video to assist hobbyist level technicians, not to redesign a McIntosh.
