Dynaudio Focus 50 Vs Evoke 50 + Naim Uniti Nova..  

To my ears wearing headphones over RU-vid the Focus 50 sounded better.

The Focus 50's are very good but are too upfront. The Evoke 50 and Unity nova is a more musical listen.

without sound level matched, it makes no sense judging on speaker. But I think Focus 50 has upfront, lively sound character different from traditional relax Dynaudio sound.

The Evokes are the bargain that comes along occasionally.

Kudos on producing another instructive video guys. Hard to ascribe any differentiating sonic characteristics until i listened with my headphones. Even then both performed very well. But left with a preference for the more fluid, natural sound of the Evoke 50 & Uniti Nova combo. The Focus 50’s sounding slightly more assertive & clinical in comparison. Definitely be interested in a lengthier follow-up video comparing the Evoke 50’s with the Focus 50’s after the application of room correction. Perhaps with some beefier amps. eg. NAP250(?) to drive the Evoke 50’s for a slightly more accurate comparison. As I believe the Focus 50’s use 2 x 250W amps. to power the Mid & Bass drivers & 110W for the tweeter(?) Regards.

I would definitely prefer the DynAudio Evoke 50 + Naim Unity unit for a really enjoyable soul-stirring listen to my music. Thank you for your setup time and for the musical audition!

Definitely the Evoke 50's!

Lets be honest, nothing cant beat a good class D (especially if they are 3 amps in both of the speakers, a 110 watt unit for the tweeter, a 280 watt amplifier for the midrange and a 280 watt amplifier for the two parallel basses.) amps and a good DAC like in FOCUS 50. Best minimalist system speakers. There is nothing more you will ever need.

Hi Kevin. I don,t like the active they sound to much studio. I miss the emotion in the music. The passive are more musical and have the emotion. Nice video. Gr André de vries.

The volume was set much lower on the Evoke 50. Your assessment was right on the mark. The Evoke seemed much smoother and listenable to me.

The separate Class AB amps from NAIM through the EVOKE sounded marginally fuller-bodied, warmer, more detailed and comely compared to the D class amps of the powered model. Personally, I'd power the Evoke with a Simaudio MOON 600i integrated and likely be happy for life.

Another review said the Focus 50 sounded much better wired, would be interesting to hear the comparison with them wired.

The Naim / Evoke is definitely more musical! The Naim is wonderful amplification; superior to the built in amps of the Focus . Most powered speakers I find don’t quite approach the sound quality of passive systems ; there are exceptions like the ATC 110 ‘s through Audio Research LS26/ Mola Mola Tambaqui That I listen to often! But you are talking Big Bucks !

If I'm not mistaken the actives have an ADC converter which is an extra layer which robs some musicality.

Actually, this is a big disappointment after so many positive reviews.

I don't mind a speaker being active or passive, but these days I expect tunability and room correction features from the overall system. The sound of a speaker gets so much cleaner if you negate the main room mode (and maybe its first harmonic). Even in an all-analog system I'd loop in an analogue parametric eq to flatten the bass response. Interestingly that room looke much more reflective than it sounded by the way.
