Clay Smith Cams visits Westech Performance Group: CSC's George Striegel and Nic Woods Dyno-test a variety of camshafts on a 350 Small Block Chevy with Westech's Steve Brule. This SBC engine combination includes, 10 to 1 compression and 91 pump gas, showcasing three Clay Smith Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshafts with each camshafts performance capabilities.

Looks like George sitting there also. Use to stop by the shop since I lived real close on Hillcrest rd in Bellhurst. We built the big Grecian White House at 8643 Hillcrest rd Buena Park. I bought a drag boat from Bob Pyle that was the guy who got burned real bad while cleaning his engine with gas. The motor was built by George but I redid the whole boat and put a blower motor in it. So real nice to see George still at it.

Between the lobe separation and your spring pressure specs i see why they all carry rpm so well and strong. Nice. Very nice.

Thank You Clay Smith for doing this! I've been looking for a mid 220-ish cam off the shelf in the 108° lobe separation flavor. Just found it this afternoon looking at the website! Just hope I can get that 274-08 ground with the 4/7 & 2/3 firing order swap for the SBC. 😉

A friend if mine just bought a HR-8094-8-CSR for his 383 build with ported Fast Burn heads for his Firebird. Looking forward to the results. He just wants as much torque and throttle respons as possible for burn outs. Not conserned with peak hp.

What would a 237/245 .560/.560 110 LC HR cam make for power with the AFR heads?

Maybe another 25-30 hp over the last cam they tested and you'll have to spin the motor a little further.

I’m just about done with it and going to conservative dyno soon. 9.8:1 compression air gap with hp 850 carb installed cam at 107

Try scorpion roller rocker arms. Made in the usa and very durable. Not sure if you figured it out or not but the sbc versions of trickflow heads ,dont actually make very much power . Afr is about the only way to go..

As you can see from the Dyno numbers, this Trickflow combination did great performance wise - making it a good option for a budget friendly build, all available at summitracing.com. We were just showing that you could get some great power out of our Flat Tappet camshafts on pump gas without breaking the bank or switching to a Hydraulic Roller. At CSC, we do sell a majority of AFR heads for our high performance applications; recommending them a lot due to the fantastic quality and our relationship with the Sperling family. (AFR is family owned and operated by three generations just like us.) We actually plan on doing a similar video as above with their heads in the coming months, so stay tuned. :)

No dyno results on the 1.6/1 rockers? The small cam would likely would work better with smaller port heads to get the bottom end up. I don't like anything over 208 @.05" on a mild street cam. We drive at 1200 > 2500 85% of the time. Remember top to bottom stroke is only 180deg. luckily there is a lot of "dwell" around TDC and BDC so with long runners at high velocity they are still spilling in air at supersonic speed, and you benefit some supercharging ram effect keeping the intake open past BDC and cracking it 5 deg before TDC.

It would have been nice to have a little more focus on torque after all that has a lot to do with driveability !?
