Dyson 360 Eye Teardown - The Electronics Inside 

As far as owning a 360 for many years, it is definitely a conundrum. We jokingly name our vacuum 'Rossie' after the robot in the Jetsons; however, the Dyson really isn't that smart. It doesn't learn your house, so you can't tell it to vacuum room X, or don't vacuum the bathroom. You just have to close doors instead. The Dyson software is also closed source and doesn't support 3rd party connectivity, such as IFTTT. It would be awesome if the Dyson could turn on/off the lights when it's cleaning a specific room in a house. Dyson also never really evolved the product or released new software features for customers over the products lifetime. Lastly, the 360 Eye requires that you have a pretty clean space, as it will easily choke on socks and power cords on the floor, as well as getting stuck on furniture. So, you have to be very mindful, and accommodating to your little robot helper. All that said, when it does run, it does a pretty good job picking up cat/dog hair and dust, but as you still need to manually vacuum all of the other surfaces, it really doesn't save you much work in the end. I think that I would recommend that people spend their money on a good pair of headphones and some music or an audiobook that they can enjoy while vacuuming manually.

Hi! I also wanted to disassemble this robot but i could only take oot the brush, filters and cyclone unit and several screws... Then i was really afraid that i will broken something.... i stopped it and make it complete. .. so it big fortune that u make it in proffesional way and satisfied my interest! Was curious as to what you found about the battery pack, as ours is misbehaving, perhaps with charging. I think I can give some insight on the rifd tag you found under the waste bin. It is actually used to control a switch in the charging / docking bay. When it is not docked, although the power supply is giving out about 17.8 volts, the 2 contacts have little to no voltage Move it over the top, and they switch on. I'm guessing safety feature to prevent people / animals electrocuting themselves and / or short circuits if the 2 contacts have something metal dropped on them

I think the RFID tag at 09:25 is for enabling the charging station. The voltage at the charging station contacts is at 0.00 unless the RFID tag is nearby, and 17.8V otherwise.

The filter on the back is a HEPA Exhaust filter that traps 99.97 of particles down to 0.3microns. The filter at the front is the Pre Motor washable filter (not a bag). A bit disappointed that you didn't know the full tech details of the machine before you posted the video. The Dyson motor inside this is called the Dyson digital Motor V2 that can spin up to 78000 RPM. Just a switched reluctance motor inside this thing.

The reason for the EU legislation was to stop companies to compete with higher and higher Watt amounts for customers. Customers tend to think the higher the Watts the better the machine. But the truth is a certain amount of Watts is enough for 90% of all daily tasks and much higher amounts are not necessary. The EU legislation lead to 2 advantages: 1. it saves a lot of energy while still having enough power for the daily cleaning. 2. it forced the companies to get better in other features of the machine like better filtration or less noise.

My original Dyson 360 Eye is having trouble driving straight, the good side has plenty of resistance while manually push on the tread; however, the other side will slip if I push with too much force. I took the base apart as far as I dared, including the tread covers, but I couldn't spot any tension screws, nor wads of hair, nor long hair binging any gears. I was hoping to learn if you noticed any sort of mechanical device to allow slipping?

I was looking for a video on howto take apart the battery pack. I'm comfortable swapping the 18650s. I don't want to break the plastic case

Just an observation about motor power limits, the reason these exist is exactly because of the misconception you've fallen for, manfacturers were putting bigger and bigger motors into vacuum cleaners because people buy the best, so if you can put a 3KW motor in your product even if you don't need that much power, then that sells as 'better' to consumers. The reality is that these vacuum cleaners had vents to allow the surplus energy out because no one needed that much power. Tl;dr a 1GW vacuum cleaner can't clean your house any better than a 300W one because you need to brush the carpet and bring the vacuum source into a concentrated area.

Anyone in here needed to replace their battery? I've gone the cheaper route and ordered an aftermarket one. The Dyson does not seem to act the same. I have a feeling there is some proprietary circuitry inside the battery pack. I'm starting to think I should give it a shot at opening the pack and replacing the batteries inside. Anyone else have any tips?

I've taken apart quite a few things in my time. You are right about the design of these. They look amazing, and confusingly, they look simple to take apart, but really are not. So many hidden plastic catches. Like a french car, you virtually have to take apart the whole thing, just to change the rubber on the wheels. Or perhaps like a solving rubik's cube - you think you are just one move or screw away from the solution, and find you have another 13 un-intuitive steps to go.

How in the hell is that massive brick going to fit under furniture? It’s as thick as a four layer cake. Great govt idea. Make the vacuum less effective so it has to make more passes. Just as brilliant as water saver toilets that need two flushes. Govt brilliance at it’s finest.

Gotta love it when people get in a huff about how things like this are supposedly making us lazy. Ok, Karen. Since technology is teh bad, tell me how much better life is walking down to the river, gathering water with your bare hands, hauling it back home, letting it sit in the sun to evaporate and collecting the condensate (unless you're ok with risking disease and want to save a shit ton of time), and then doing the dishes. I'm just gonna use my dishwasher while watching a movie. See you in a few days. Wouldn't wanna let that pesky technology stuff to make ya go soft. Can't wait to see how long it takes you to do laundry.

Dyson stuff = horrible brittle cheap plastic, ridiculous fiddly design, horrific pricing and stupid marketing slang ("digital motor" for Christ's sakes, wtf is that?) they are the Apple of home appliances. Had a Dyson upright cleaner, utter rubbish, poor build, cheap switchgear. I'll put the suction of the top range Dyson up against my Numatic Henry ANY DAY, the Henry is a black hole with a smiley face! The suction NEVER stops! I use my Henry every day, and the bag STILL isn't full! It's gargantuan. There's a reason Henry vacuums are used in cleaning businesses. A £160 Henry over this £300 - £700+ tosh any day. I really don't see the point of "robot" cleaners to be honest. They can't clean into corners, they take too long, they can't clean stairs, they can't clean skirting, and the lack of a tube means no curtain/ceiling or in car cleaning, proprietary batteries that are costly to replace, plus they promote laziness and stop people doing a bit of housework. Far too expensive as well. People might say "but you can get a car vacuum cleaner as well", but that is ridiculous. Buy a Henry, job done. Massive capacity, twin power, industrial build quality, tube and attachments, no fuss and convenient. I sound like a salesperson for Numatic, but no, I'm just a very satisfied Henry owner. Went through several vacuum cleaners, then decided to bite the bullet and got a Henry, never looked back, best purchase ever.

nice tech, not 1500$ tech.
